Afternoon ladies. Pretty chilly here today and some sleet and slippery roads but supposed to be at least in the 60's tomorrow.
Our GPS has to be replaced and we had hoped to wait until vacation next year, but we need it to go to Indiana so guess we will fork out the money for it. It is always something, isn't it?
Nothing much going on today. I packed more stuff but didn't clean the downstairs yet. Will tackle that this weekend or more likely on Monday after Jack gets the stuff installed in the house that needs to be done. He also needs to help me put my chair gym together so I can start with it.
Susan: Kelly posted on FB today the doctor has released her to drive and she is now using only a cane. So she is doing very well. It has been really icy here so she hadn't ventured out and had to reschedule her appointment. I have had flourless chocolate cake on the ship and it is indeed like a gooey brownie and pretty yummy.
Jean: It is awful how people are let go these days. I keep praying my best friend gets a permanent position. She was supposed to call the place today but they have had horrendous weather for several days so I am not sure she could get out and about. I have read all the J.D. Robb books and love them. I just finished her newest one. I wonder how they would transfer to tv or a movie? I think she seems to always come up with new story lines unlike some authors.
Maggie: Maintain is better than backwards. They are building this huge lake in the park where our buffalo are so they had to move them to a new area. It seems to be much bigger for them.
Good morning ladies. Much warmer but very windy and rainy this morning. I just hope the temps stay up and we are done with the cold stuff and no more bad weather. Of course now the city is going to have to deal with flooding, which is always a big problem.
We are going to start on some house projects after breakfast but that shouldn't take long. I would love to get out of town and go somewhere warm, but there isn't such a thing around here.
Good Morning! It's cloudy, windy, and gloomy this morning. We did have bright sunshine for about an hour. The temperature is to dip below 0 tonight. I am really, really, really sick of winter! I was just going over my hospital direct deposit figure, and it doesn't match mine. I double checked all of mine, and got the same numbers twice this morning. I sent the accountant an email with my figures so I hope she can find what she missed sending me -- $400.10 worth! The washer is doing its job this morning, and I need to dream up something for lunch. I noticed some fur hunks in the livingroom; Ernie and Sonny must have had a discussion of some sort in there. Those are easy to pick up by hand, and I won't have to drag the vacuum out.
"Gma," is your GPS separate from your car? I hope it isn't too expensive to replace. One of the gals at the wedding said they used her phone app for Google maps to find where they needed to go. She said it talked to them just like the GPS in their car at home. I know I have it on my phone, but we used the iPad. I should say that Bob studied the maps more than I did. I get lost going around the block! He would take a different entrance to the hotel parking lot, and would laugh when I figured out where we were. I'm waiting very impatiently for the weather to shape up! I wonder if it ever will be "normal" again.
I need to get busy! Hope you all have a super Saturday, stay warm, and enjoy your day!
Good morning to you all. It is cool again this morning and never did warm up like it was supposed to yesterday.
Jack was in the middle of putting my other blind up yesterday and he got a all from his boss. One of the foreman, who has a bad heart and just found out a week or so ago he needs a transplant, passed away yesterday morning. He was a couple years older than Jack.
Jack ran to the store for me and out to Cracker Barrel to get some sour dough bread. I love it for toast and it makes great French toast because it doesn't get soggy. I fixed him some French toast this morning.
He put my chair together for me this morning so I can start with the exercises tomorrow. It is nice and sturdy and says it will hold up to 350 so that is ok too. I am hoping it will help build me up and give me some metabolism boost as I can use other things with it like my bicycle thingy.
I have a dr apt on Tuesday and will go and get my nails done afterward and that's it for Tuesday unless something else comes up and we may have to go to the funeral home Tuesday night.
Jean: I know it has to be irritating when you can't balance and can't find the issue. One thing I goof up from time to time balancing my checkbook is not seeing something has come through and subtract it twice. Yes, our Mariner doesn't have gps in it so we have a window unit. Truthfully he doesn't need one as we know our way around South Bend and know how to get from here to there. We also know our way from home to Florida and back, but he likes his toys.
Good Afternoon! The sun is shining but it's another cold day in my neighborhood. Wind chill is -7 and the cold goes right through my winter coat. Went to early church, Bob's group sang, and I shivered! We went out for breakfast and now home with the furnace turned up. For some reason I just can't get warm today. I have laundry brought down from the bedroom and need to get it on down to the basement. Also need to clear off the counter and unload the dishwasher. I need to go next door and water the lonely plant and check the temperature in the house. The mailman rang our doorbell yesterday and wanted to know if we were watching the house on the other side of us (where the cat hater lady lived). He noticed the sump pump has been running a lot which is unusual for this time of year. The neighbor across the street parks in the driveway so Bob called him to tell him. He had the key so went over to check and no water in the basement. Hope he keeps checking the house. The guy doesn't usually come home until April so glad we aren't in charge.
"Gma," that is too bad about Jack's coworker's death. One just never knows, that's for sure. Do your have a picture of your new chair? Sounds like a good deal to me. We used a GPS when we were in Florida two years ago; made a lot of U-turns! I just read a hint to never put your home address in just in case your car was stolen. That does make sense.
I need to get busy so I'm not doing my chores after dark. Have a nice rest of the day and enjoy!
Jean: Here is the chair gym. You get workout dvds and it has beginner, medium and advanced strengthening ability so you can work your way up. It is pretty cool so far. We shall see how it does long term as it wasn't cheap. Of course I expect to look like this too in the end.
Good morning gals. It is cold and icy again this morning and the temps are going to stay below freezing. Sun is going to come out though so I hope it will melt some of the thin ice as I have a dr apt tomorrow that I have to go to.
Quiet day yesterday. We put together my chair as I said, but I haven't tried it out yet this morning.
I have a load of laundry in and one small one to do and I want to tackle the downstairs today if at all possible. Other than that, nothing going on in my world today.
Hope everyone has a good start to their week. Faye
Good Afternoon! The sun is shining and it has warmed up to 21 from -8 early this morning. We balanced on the first try this morning which was nice. There was $119.+ in coins from the offering the children give during the children's sermon. I'm glad we have a coin counter! Soon the Lenten change will be coming in. I had a bunch of checks to write for the gift shop so did those and took them back this afternoon before I counted the money. I heard back from the accountant and my figures were right; she didn't pay me for the week she missed in January. I'm glad it wasn't my goof. Bob has a board meeting at 5 and will be served food of some sort so nothing planned for supper.
"Gma," we've watched some of the cars driving on ice videos from the south. It's a miracle if no one gets killed. Then trying to dig buried cars out of snow piles would be so discouraging. I can't imagine the damage after all that snow and ice melts. I will put up with the cold! Did you see your chair advertised on TV? It looks interesting -- let us know how you like it.
I need to put my paperwork away for another week and write a couple birthday cards for church. Hope you all enjoy the rest of your day and evening.
Good morning to you all. Cold this morning and the deck is icy in spots but I have to get out and get to the dr today for him to check on this drain thing. So I am up, cleaned up, dressed, makeup, the whole shebang and ready to leave to take Jack to work at 6.
They aren't having a service or viewing for Jack's coworker, just family and no flowers though they had an Irish Wake yesterday afternoon, but Jack didn't want to go. He just gave money to the collection they took. Guess it is all we can do.
I got all my laundry done and the downstairs cleaned but the ice melt stuff got dragged in already so guess tomorrow I will run the vacuum and sweep the kitchen again as I wear socks in the house and stepping on those things is murder.
I have to try and get back into the doctor's since I canceled the apt when the weather was bad. She said to call the end of the week to see if her new schedule is up so hopefully I can get a new appt. I am ok on meds and since it is just a new meds prescription, diabetes check and blood work, all of which is done at the office there it is not a big deal.
Kelly has scheduled us to take sewing classes the end of next month. The class is $75 plus another $50 for me to rent one of their machines which they charge because they want you to buy a machine (they apply the rental to a machine for purchase if you buy one from them.) I don't even know if I will enjoy it so I am not going to buy something that may just sit. Kelly already has a beautiful sewing machine she got for Christmas and knows how to sew so I am not sure how bored she will be with this. It is all day and then we will take a second round. She wants she and I to sew a quilt together to make for Alicia when they move. So we will end up taking quilting classes later, but right now all they have is weekday classes which she can't do.
Jean: On getting your count right the first time around. The people here drive like noodleheads in sunny weather and they get nuttier in bad weather. I always worry more about them than I do about Jack's driving to work as he goes to work in the dark. Yes, this chair thingy was an infomercial I just happen to see changing channels. It showed just the arm exercises, but it has a connection at the bottom for leg ones too. You can also buy this disc thing that fits on the seat to twist on, but I am not interested in that. I can't kneel at all because the pressure is very painful on my bad knee. It showed a lot of seniors exercising on it on the commercial so I can surely do it. I will let you know what I think.
I have been going through the recopies that I plan to make in our Can Cooker and bought all the ingredients that don’t have to be refrigerated meaning seasonings, bottles & cans of this and that. Some of the items may not be available where we may be when I want to cook it so I am a step ahead. I have everything to do with that cooker all packed in containers that will fit in the basement of the MH.
The snow we got Saturday is just about all melted now. The crops in the fields got a nice slow drink that way.
We are going to have one hum-dinger of a yard sale come spring. What we don’t sale and that is a good product we will take to the consignment store and let the owner deal with it and send us the money he gets after taking his cut to where ever we tell him to. When the weather gets warmer we will bring the MH here and load up what we want to have in it. The owner friend of the gun shop said he would love to have my glass village in an empty case he has in his shop and sell them for me. His wife fell in love with the houses and who knows how many more she will want. We haven’t told anyone around here yet that we are planning on leaving but will give them a 60 day notice.
DONNA FAYE You may just surprise yourself and love sewing as much as you do knitting or crocheting. In making my cloth dolls I find I can use all of those methods in their fashions. Right now I have all my tools and things I need to fashion them in a large plastic bin with a tight fitting lid to go in the basement of the MH. I don't want to get involved in making a doll right now.
JEAN How nice of a feeling to get everything all balanced. I am sure you will find something yummy to eat for dinner. I am making stuffed baked pork chops plus the greens to go with it for dinner.
Always remember ~ Never, never, never give up
Good Afternoon! The sun has been in and out all morning. When it's hiding it's really dark like it could rain or snow. The wind is blowing so it is cold out. I went for a nail fill this morning, dropped an email off for a gal who doesn't do computers, made the gift shop deposit at the bank, and picked up some more allergy pills. Bob is out at the farm working on the semi so I won't see him until supper time.
"Gma," hope you can get a doctor's appointment soon, and not have to wait. What do they do at an Irish Wake? A sewing class sounds like fun to me. I used to sew a lot but haven't for years. Our fabric store is slowly going out of business as the owner is 90+ years old! We joke that some of the fabric might be close in age. The other choice is WM and their fabric selection is pretty slim. The clerks, if you can find one, know zilch about sewing.
Maggie, sounds like you have been busy. It's smart to have your food items on hand when you are on the move. For us, even with two grocery stores plus WM, there are things that have to be special ordered for recipes. There used to be a gourmet club and they would travel to Omaha and shop for ethnic food ingredients to prepare and serve. Needless, to say I never joined that group!
I see where Dancing With The Stars starts again in March. Suzanne Somers and Patti LaBelle were the only names I recognized right away. I need to do some dusting and drag the vacuum out to chase the fur and dust bunnies. There always seems to be something that needs to be picked up, cleaned, or put away! Enjoy the rest of your day!
Good morning ladies! 27 degrees and a snow storm warning in effect until 12 pm tomorrow. We had 6 inches last week and it is still on the ground plus 2 inches we got yesterday and with more to come (3-4 inches). It's been below freezing all week so the darn stuff doesn't melt. The kids were out of school 4 days last week, went 1-1/2 days this week and are out again today. Since we don't ususally have snow, there is only 1 weather day built into the school calendar so they are adding days onto the end of the year.
They put brine on the roads before snow falls so the major roads have been clear but the side streets and ice and snow. There was an article in today's paper that said to wash your car often because the brine is highly corrosive.
My friend Sandy picked me up to hang our First Thursday Bee's quilts at Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival. We finished in time to get home just as the snow was starting. The opening tonight for those who pre-registered is something we always go to but it depends on the roads.
I took Irene to the hospital yesterday for her biopsies. They checked her breast, liver, spine and lungs so it doesn't look good. She is 82 years old and still working as a caregiver for a lady who has dementia.
Faye, I hope you didn't have trouble getting to the doc today and things have improved with the drain. Your exercise chair looks good. Give us a report after you try it. I wish I lived closer - I'd be so happy to teach you and Kelly to quilt.
Jean, You are getting to be quite the accountant!
Maggie, what fun getting the MH ready. I'm sure you will be sorry to sell your glass village.
Good Afternoon! It is cold, snowing, and blowing here today. It started early with just a few flakes but has gotten worse as the day goes along. The streets are slippery and the plows won't come out until the snow quits. I did go to work in the gift shop this morning. I sold more than I normally do on a nice weather day. Granted, all of my customers were employees. They get 20% off one item during their birthday month. I sorted through my cards and need to place an order. Bob met me for lunch in the coffee shop so came home to a clean kitchen. So far bell practice is still on the schedule this afternoon; we play Sunday so really need to practice.
Susan, it sounds like you could be living in southern Iowa. This crazy weather has been so frustrating! I hope the roads are good so that you can go to the quilt festival tonight. How sad for your friend Irene. Did she have to stay overnight in the hospital?
I need to change clothes and turn up the heat! Hope you all are keeping toasty warm and enjoying your day.
I couldn't post yesterday as it kept giving me an error message when I would click submit so here is yesterday's post I saved!
Good morning to you all. We are supposed to get snow starting this afternoon. This has been a wicked couple weeks for us as we usually get one day of winter weather and that's it, but then most of the country has had to contend with this mess in far worse ways.
After my dr apt I went and got my nails done and bought some stuff at Walmart, picked up a bite of lunch and came home. I was really tired yesterday so we grabbed a sandwich from across the street at the bbq place and I crashed really early. I even missed my favorite show last night, but I just couldn't keep my eyes open.
I texted Thomas last night and told him if he can fit us into his social calendar we will take him out to dinner his day, his choice. We are trying to see him a bit more as he is barreling along towards college and he plans on going away to college in just a few years.
Today I have to resweep, revacuum and remop because the salt stuff got dragged into the house. Of course I will have to turn around and do it all again after it snows. I am so over winter.
I have to keep my drain in another week. He said it if didn't put out anymore to come in on Friday, but there is fluid in the bag so I am going to wait until next Tuesday to come in. I want to make sure this is taken care of for good. It also gives them time to get me a new referral.
Maggie: When do you guys plan on leaving Kansas? I am sure I will enjoy it. I just had a hard time learning years ago mainly because my mother kept insisting I was bad at it so would sew the projects up for me. I really never had a chance.
Jean: Mostly an Irish wake involves drinking toasts to the deceased with Irish whiskey is what I have found. I don't know what this one was like. It was nice several guys did go I guess. We have a Joanns here, Hobby Lobby, and a couple other fabric stores but this class is with Memphis Sewing and I think they may have fabrics and such too, I don't know.
Good morning. We got some snow yesterday but nothing on the ground stuck so I am assuming Jack had no problem getting to work. We are going to be up near 70 by Tuesday and hopefully we will be done with cold weather. My smart meter for my utilities keeps zooming up and it is near $300 for this month and new reading isn't until the 2nd. I am so done with the cold weather. Bring on spring.
I am finishing up a load of laundry but nothing else on the agenda for today. I need to work on my sweater some as I had to tear out about 15 rows where I saw a mistake.
Nothing much going on here today.
Susan: I thought of you when Kelly suggested quilting. I am hoping the sewing classes really help me to learn to sew properly. I am a whiz at hand sewing but a dismal failure with a sewing machine but then I haven't really had great teaching. My mom did my school projects because my sewing wasn't perfect and I had no choice in the matter. I hated it, but she insisted. Also, Kelly says the new machines are wonderful and of course I learned on old machines that did very little. Thomas has been off a lot too as well as Jackson so I imagine their school years are going to be elongated. Va Beach area definitely doesn't do well with winter weather and you have had worse stuff then us. I am so sorry about Irene.
Jean: I am a one card at a time kind of gal. I have to always rush around and get cards for birthdays and such at the last minute because I always forget. They are so expensive anymore. I am deciding whether to get Jackson an Easter basket or just send him money in a card this year. I will definitely just give Thomas money. He can use it for his trip to Italy/Greece during spring break then his trip to Spain in June. He also is going to New Mexico to Scout camp in June so will be a busy teenager. I saw a picture from someone on my FB timeline who was driving south of Davenport and it looked wicked. I do not envy you.
