I started IP over 200 pounds and was never told to do an extra unrestricted packet just because of my weight. I would listen to your body and add one if you felt you needed it, skip the extra if you don't feel you need it. For me part of this journey is learning to actually listen to your body and be mindful of what it is trying to tell you. I agree though that either way it should not affect your weight loss. Perhaps others who were a bit heavier when they started will weigh in as well.
I started at 257 and my coach never said anything about 3 unrestricted and 1 restricted. I've always been at 2 unrestricted 1 restricted. HOWEVER, I always add a packet of unrestricted if I'm getting in more exercise than I anticipated usually. This isn't the IP way, but neither is working out.

I agree that we really need to listen to our bodies and take that into consideration when we look at the numbers on the scale.

I started at nearly 330 pounds and my coach said that I could only have the extra unrestricted packet the first week. After that I only had the 2+1 packets.
The coach and doctor told me to eat saltines the first week as well... :-/ Listen to these ladies! They know what they are talking about!

I know all coaches give different advice so there's always differing opinions.

I posted this in another thread but will re-post it here too:

Most people use 3 packets (2 non-restricted, 1 restricted) per day.

In the IP clinic manuel, it's listed this way:

201-240 pounds = 4 packets/day
241-280 pounds = 5 packets/day
281-320 pounds = 6 packets/day

Of course, still only 1 of those is restricted.

You could always sub in an EAS shake for your extras and stick to only 3 IP's per day.

I started out at 225 and the only time having extra IP products has been mentioned was if I was doing something strenuous. (whitewater rafting on vacation etc)

I just started eating extra protein or an extra packet and am losing more weight. I am over 200 and also workout (it's so hard for me to maintain exercise momentum I won't give it up).

If I feel I need an extra packet I have one. My coach has told me it's better to do that than over eat. I agree. It hasn't hindered my weight loss.

Also, my coach said I NEED to eat my restricted everyday. When I was stalling, she figured it was because I wasn't eating my restricted.

I dont know... that's just what she said, and for ME, it seems to be working.
