My MIL bought the same one. You don't have to use it to count points. I just use it to weigh food. I'd try it out, it's definitely worth it!

sontaikle: If being accurate would mean being too obsessive, then I understand.

When it comes to food, I've found that the scale is less work and more accurate than measuring spoons and such. Yeah - It is just easier, so I save time.

But I understand where you are coming from - for example, I don't weight myself everyday, I don't even keep the scale handy, because that leads me to becoming too obsessive. Any water retention can really bring down my mood.

LovelyLeah: 6 grams is so little - even if each tablespoon was just a tiny bit heaping, that would be an extra 3 grams per tbs.

If you can't remember the last time you changed the batteries, I would probably do that.

PhantomPanda: I wouldn't buy the absolute cheapest digital scale at Walmart. I'd look for a little bit more quality - maybe find one that is a bit more of a reliable brand and in the middle price range. I have a philips and it does the job.

There are some situations I avoid just so I don't trigger that obsessive center of me.
This is me, too. I am way OCD, and struggle daily to cut myself slack with what I am already doing. Weighing food, FIR ME, would push me over the edge. It's a big "win" for me to be able to estimate my calories and "be okay with it".

I think one reason why weighing food isn't a big deal for me is that I'm British, I like to cook, I have lots of recipe books, and Brits tend to use weights for measuring in their cookbooks where Americans use volume (cups) for pretty much everything. If you've ever made a cake using a British cookbook, you will have needed to have a food scale.

I think most food scales are inaccurate when it comes to really small amounts, and they can also be tricky if you're putting in something a small amount at a time, rather than just dumping it in all at once. It's one reason why I use a combination of scales, measuring cups (250/125/80/60ml, aka 1, 1/2, 1/3 and 1/4 cups) and measuring spoons (15/5/2.5/1.25ml, aka tablespoon, teaspoon, 1/2 tsp, 1/4 tsp). I have just noticed that Fitday thinks a tablespoon is 1/8 of a cup when it's actually 1/16, and am now fretting slightly that it may have messed up my quantities. But as long as I'm still losing weight on plan, I don't think I need to worry, it'd just be micromanaging and getting needlessly obsessive. Whenever I am having trouble measuring something quite accurately and catch myself wishing that I had a scale for minute quantities or what have you, I just remind myself to step back and relax, because I really don't need that level of accuracy. The warning sign that I was measuring wrong would be if I was failing to lose weight, and that hasn't happened (occasional small stalls aside, they're normal), so my measuring must be fine.

I'll be getting a scale later today, finally. My mom had a WW scale she didn't use and I've been wanting one to measure out amounts of food where the packaging says x ounces = this many calories. I'd have no idea how big or small it should be. Really looking forward to having my scale. Hopefully it makes this a bit easier for me.
