Oh yeah. Nebraska CORN fed beef. There is nothing in this world better. We butcher a whole cow and it feeds our family of 4 for about 18 months. We eat beef probably 3 times a week, with streak being around once a week. T-bones, rib streak, sirloin...flank. All good when it comes from a corn fed cow! Anyway, eating beef has not effected my dropping cholesterol or weigh loss at all. Sugar and refined flour is what made my weight and cholesterol go sky high, when I quit eating it my weight and cholesterol levels dropped dramatically.

How I personally feel towards steak: Well, my family has a cattle ranch in Wyoming, and I grew up doing cattle drives, brandings, feeding the bulls, staying up all night during calving season, etc. I also just graduated from college with an Agriculture major. I'm well-versed on the subject of beef production, hehe. But quite frankly, I'm not much of a beef eater. I don't hate it, but I don't love it. I'd absolutely prefer chicken, fish, seafood, turkey, even lean pork (in that order) over beef. I have been to famous steakhouses and ordered chicken, lol. But eeeevery once in awhile I crave a big chunk of juicy grilled cowflesh. When I do indulge in a steak, I want it to be so rare that I could put a bandaid on it and it would start mooing again.

On the matter of beef fitting into a healthy diet, it absolutely can. In fact, for want of a more balanced diet, I've actuall forced myself to eat more beef. A lean cut of beef does have its own health benefits. Count the calories as you would anything else and enjoy in moderation.

I feel great about steak. I don't eat it too often at home, but I often order it when I eat out. Not my favorite steak, which is ribeye, but a sirloin. If you choose your sides wisely, it is often one of the healthiest items on the menu.

Mmm, I had steak last night. My dad made a delicious spice rub that had coffee grounds and something spicy (cayenne?).

One note about ordering it at restaurants, ask the waiter to make a note for the chef to not add butter. Chefs often brush steaks with layer after layer of butter to make them look super juicy. It doesn't necessarily enhance the flavor much, just adds unnecessary calories. But I agree, a simply seasoned grilled steak can definitely be one of the healthier things on a restaurant menu.

Good tip, Megan, I didn't know that. I will from now on.

I like steak too, usually don't make it at home. I order it from a local restaurant that makes a good steak. I eat half of it for dinner or lunch and save the other half for a steak salad later.

I don't eat a lot of it, but I do like the taste. The issue for me is that it takes a lot to digest it, so I don't eat it too often.

My husband is a beef-o-holic and since he does all the cooking we eat a lot of ground beef (93% lean), cube steak and regular steak. I have lost over 100 pounds so far, so while I'm certainly not saying it's the best thing in the world, with portion control you certainly can lose weight.

If you look at calories, there aren't that many more calories in beef then in chicken.

I have been slowly convincing DH that there are other things in the world other then beef. He grew up on a dairy farm and meat was a staple and he never ate fish or seafood. I actually have him eating fish and scallops now which is nothing short of a miracle!

As has been said already...everything in moderation. I LOVE a good sirloin
steak but my new found favorite is using the sirloin to make "legal" fajitas.
Using a whole wheat tortilla and lots of vegies with the sirloin and YUM.

I LOVE steak. I usually splash on some Worcestershire sauce and let it sit overnight in the fridge to get tender from the sauce and then I toss on some grill mates steak seasoning and cook- we eat this probably 2-3 times a month at home YUM!

Usually do this with roasted veggies and mashed potatoes (for the fam).

I'm drooling just thinking about it now! lol.

We buy a 1/2 a cow a year and store it in the deep freeze to have on hand. It is grass fed. We eat red meat approximately twice a week and exercise portion control. I have tried super restrictive diets in the past but after reading a really good book on being naturally thin I've come to learn that I personally do so much better when I let myself have some of the things that I crave. Steak is sometimes one of those things

I LOVE steak, but since trying to watch what I eat, I have decided that if I want steak, most of the time, I will have Bison steak instead. The taste is similar, but from what I can find, Bison is quite a bit lower in fat and calories. I am fortunate enough to live in an environment where Bison meat is easy to come by.

I love moo-cow! Hardly anything beats a good grilled steak on my tasty-scale, it fits in my plan just fine.

And I'm surprised at how many of you don't eat it at home - I'm the exact opposite! I find most restaurant steaks to be overpriced, bland and improperly cooked, so I'd rather just make it at home just the way I like it
