I really wish I had time to eat before I work out, but working out is basically the very first thing I do in the morning. I get up at 4:45 am, work out from 5 to 5:30, sit and drink my coffee and relax for a few, fix lunches for kids and breakfast for myself and hubby, and finally sit and eat around 6:25. I have tried eating a quick snack before I start, but all it does is make me nauseous. Personally, I am just going to keep doing what I'm doing cause it's working so far . . .

I follow the Bob Greene model of eating 1 hour before exercise (protein/fat/carb combo), but not less than an hour before. Otherwise, you're burning what you just ate. I eat IMMEDIATELY after, within 15 minutes. I try to eat high protein/med carb (like a protein shake with berries and almond milk). I feel great and I'm building muscle like crazy, so I think it's working. An example would be for an 8am workout, I eat 2 eggs, 1/2 whole wheat English muffin dry, and a cup of skim milk at 7am. As soon as I finish my workout about 9:30 (generally circuit - high energy weights), I have 1 c almond milk blended with 1c mixed berries and 1.5 scoops whey protein.

Welcome to 3FC Gardennut and that is the way to do it. What works for me is what I do also. The only time I can't eat first is when I get on the elliptical or exercise bike. I don't know why but it makes me nauseous to eat before with those.

I have to wait at least an hour to work work our if I eat first. Usually if I jog in the mornings I will not eat anything. Just drink some water and that's it.

I like to have a small protein-ish snack before I exercise. If I can't get my hands on that, I might eat a banana or something. Just a little something in my tum.

Boy now I know need to eat breakfast first. Just finished my work out and didn't eat first like I would normally. I felt so sluggish. I could barely finish the work out.
