I have extremely sensitive skin. I haven't been able to find a makeup that doesn't irritate my skin. Dry mineral makeup seems to be the least reactive, so I use that on very special occasions. If I have it on my face for more than three or four hours, though I will break out in blemishes at best and my face will be red and irritated, looking almost sunburned at worst.

The zinc dandruff shampoo doesn't irritate my skin at all, even in the most delicate areas and I use it as my only soap/shampoo. I prefer Walmart's equivalent brand. I like the fragrance better and it doesn't seem to be as drying. I usually buy the Walmart's 2 in 1, shampoo and conditioner because it's got the moisturizer right in it. I still buy the Head and Shoulder's brand conditioner for my hair (only because the Walmart "Equate" brand doesn't come in a conditioner only).

Funny thing - On my first visit to the dermatologist after she recommended the Head and Shoulders, I was chatting with the doctor's nurse or CNA and I told her how wonderful the Head and Shoulders was as a body wash, and the woman looked horrified that I had used it as a body wash. When I told her the doctor had told me to, she looked very skeptical and asked if I was sure the doctor had told me that. Well that got me thinking that maybe I had misheard the doctor and I was only supposed to use it on my face. I felt really embarassed, and when the doctor came in I was blushing like mad (I'm really pale, so when I'm embarassed everyone knows it) and asked her if she had really recommended me to use the H&S "everywhere." When she said, "yes, of course," I was so relieved and I started laughing and told her how her assistant had reacted. She told me that she'd talk to her so that she knew not to freak out patients.

She assured me that the shampoo was gentle enough to use "everywhere."

I'm the same way on the make up and other things. I have tried a brand called Physician's Formula, but the Organic Wear one, not the others. The others I have to be very careful. The organic wear is really nice and I seem to wear it just fine. I use a powder foundation instead of a cream, which works for me and my sensitive skin.

I've been using Nutrogena's version of "head and shoulders," it smells nice enough and doesn't irritate my skin. I can't use it all over my body, I know better, but in specific areas like down south it is great haha.

People use Head and Shoulders all over, but I can see why someone would go "what?!" lol I found out about it from an acne website and a lot of people use that and Hibiclens (which is a medical strength anti-bacterial soap). Surgeons use Hibiclens when they wash before surgery. It is very strong, but I've used it when I had some infection things going on. So it is a good thing to have on hand, but now I tend to use tea tree oil and lighter things anyhow.

I've tried the Physician's formula (unsuccessfully), but I'm not sure if it was organic wear. May have to give it a try.

As for using the H&S, For me "down south" is even more sensitive than my face, and frustratingly more prone to itching when irritated. At least scratching your face can be done discreetly, LOL.

The organic stuff is like a branch off of the same company. For some reason I can handle that on my face, but a lot of the other stuff I cannot. I can use like the mascara and eye shadows just fine, but the powders or lip gloss is a no go for me with the regular physician's formula. I'm looking into trying RAWMinerals, perhaps that will be okay.

My reaction is usually raised red rash spots all over. I mean I was using a product to get rid of my lady mustache and I had half my face in giant red spots for over a week lol. Didn't itch, more like a burn. YAY! lol

Evil stuff out there for us sensitive girls!

I am so lost with what you ladies are talking about. Are we talking about makeup? I wanted to know about things for sweating in the down town area. So is the head and shoulders for that or not? Kaplods, help me out here. You and Jacquie668 lost me somewhere along the line.

Sorry, I didn't mean to hijack the thread (change the main topic). The makeup for sensitive skin was just a sidetracked comment.

I was just saying that despite having very sensitive skin, the Head and Shoulders and similar shampoos do not seem to irritate my skin, regardless of whether it's on my face or any other sensitive skin areas. I don't know if it actually keeps me from sweating, but it sure feels like it, and it definitely does keep me fresh smelling much longer, because it kills the bacteria that make sweat smell bad.

I can get sidetracked easily on the topic though, because the shampoo and the zinc creams seems to be so good for so many different skin problems I've had. On my face it seems to prevent and clear up acne, rosacea, even heals sunburn and windburn more quickly, I think. I've not had back acne since using it as a body wash. I don't get sweaty boob rash. Although my feet don't look like I have athlete's foot, they itch and burn alot, and the shampoo and zinc cream relieves and prevents it. When I use it as shaving cream, I don't get nearly as much razor burn. I love the stuff for so many reasons, that it's hard not to get sidetracked and sing it's praises in all the ways it has helped (the makeup suggestion was completely off topic though, and I'm sorry for that).

The shampoo DEFINITELY has helped me prevent the underpant elastic burns in the creases. Changing the underwear style was important, though too. I still get an irritation at the waistband area sometimes, and that's where the zinc cream comes in handy. I think for actually preventing sweating, the zinc cream helps more than the shampoo. I use the zinc cream under the boobs, in the arm pits, in the leg creases, and if I've got a cyst or irritation of the privates, I use the cream actually on the irritation. Until I found the Johnson's three in one diaper rash lotion, I usually only used the zinc cream if an irritation had already started, because most zinc creams are so inconvenient to use.

Most zinc oxide creams are very thick and like clown makeup or what lifeguards wear on their nose. That's why I use the Johnson's instead of regular diaper rash zinc oxide creams. That zinc oxide is It's so thick and bright white that it can get on and stain clothes. The Johnson's blue tube cream is more like a regular lotion; and after you rub it in, the area seams a little paler than normal, but not like streaks of clown makeup. That's not usually that important for the leg crease and private area (well, it could be rather difficult to explain in an intimate situation, or in a swim suit, if you've got what appears to be clown makeup smeared on your thighs).

In the winter, I don't use it as often, but in the summer when I sweat more, I go through the Johnson's zinc cream like mad. After I shower (with the zinc shampoo as a shampoo, face wash, and body wash) I dry thoroughly and rub a little bit of the zinc cream into crease and irritation prone areas. I also use it on my feet as a foot lotion.

Obviously you don't have to use the Head and Shoulders or other zinc shampoos as a shampoo if you don't have dandruff, nor as a face wash if you don't have facial skin problems, so you might only want to use it as a body wash. But you certainly could if you wanted to. You may also never need to take the extra step of the zinc oxide cream (I would recommend having it on hand, though as at the first sign of a problem, it really does come in handy in healing skin irritations and rashes).

For my one soap does all, I do like to use the combination shampoo and conditioner, because the Head and Shoulders shampoos that are only shampoos can be a bit drying (this is most noticeable on my face though). The conditioner in the shampoo/conditioner combo acts a little bit like lotion or moisturizer, so it's nice to use that, because then I don't need a seperate face and/or body lotion. I mentioned that I used the conditioner (on my head hair), just as an FYI, even though it doesn't have anything to do with the nether regions (I suppose your COULD condition there if you wanted to).

So, I hope I've cleared up the confusion. I notice that even in this post, I couldn't discuss the topic without talking about all of the things I use the darned stuff for, but yes indeed it does help with the sweating and itch/burn/irritation in the privates and body creases. It especially helps in preventing the situation from reaching the itchy, painful, smelly stage.

Sorry we were talking about sensitive skin issues as I think we just got excited to share info lol. I'm like writing notes from this thread anyhow.

Yes Head and Shoulders or shampoos that are like Head and Shoulders (there are a lot of no-named brand ones, just make sure it has the Zinc) are for all over if you are not sensitive to it as Kaplods has mentioned. Like I said previously I use Netrogena's brand.

Zinc cream, which I found in a health food store, can be beige in color and annoying to put on and it will leave a white deposit on your skin. That is normal as that is what Zinc does, but it does help with skin rashes and ones that are in skin folds.

One of the most important things you can also do is give those areas air. If you have a rash that is moist then allow that part of your body to get air and you can also use a fan or something to help dry that area out. I now dry off after my showers in front of a small fan and it has helped me in so many ways lol. Haha I am laying there in my birthday suit for awhile, but I actually feel better during the day because of it. Very simple thing to do, even in awkward places lol.

You ladies are wonderful and thank you so much for clearing that up for me. When you fine something that really works and has so many uses, I can understand the eagerness to sing it's praises. You two ladies are funny, you turned into a run away freight train, LOL, but it is okay, SING THOSE PRAISES!!! Stay close because I know that we will be speaking again.

What's so funny to me is that the shampoo thing is something I've done for years. Nice to hear a doctor thinks it's a good idea.

Sachiko, this sounds like a great idea and if I use this on a regular seems like it could prevent the really bad stuff I have been suffering with. Thank you so much for sharing and it was not TMI, these are the things I need to hear in order to help with the problem.

Oh yeah ladies the zinc creams are great on the bad stuff and so does the cream with the malox.

Annieoh, Have not tried the shampoo yet, but I will test it out next. If so many are doing it, it must really work as well. All of you ladies have been a great help and I thank you all. Keep all your ideas coming.

Wink

Thanks ladies, all of the sprays sound really good to me because I do not always have help (that's most of the time) and I think I could do the spray all by myself.

Sorry it has taken me so long to respond but had an accident, broke my nose in two places, fractured wrist, and really beat up ribs, will be out of work for 8 wks. Doc says may need nose surgery, will not know until swelling goes down, 1 month. One handed typing sucks. Will post again later, pain pill time
