It's Friday so it was treadmill intervals. I still hate them, although I suppose it was nice to be inside and not out on icy pavements.

I'm dreading next Friday though, I'm going away for a short break, and the way it works best is to do my long run on the treadmill in the hotel gym where I'm staying on Friday night (the hotel on Saturday doesn't have a gym).

Ugh, I want to cry! I went to the doctor today (finally) and found out I have an upper respiratory infection. He put me on antibiotics and gave me some hardcore cough syrup with codeine in it to knock me out at night, and he told me to STOP RUNNING! I did stop, of course, because Tuesday was the last time, but I just hate knowing I can't make the group run tomorrow for the 10k training team. I'm so afraid I'll get off track. Next Saturday is a 4-mile run, and I fear that I won't be ready.

Reassure me, please, that I can get back on track if I take a week or so off. I'm sad!

Lisa, it takes about 2 weeks of sitting on your butt completely to start losing fitness, and you might actually lose more trying to work out when you are that sick. You gain fitness during your recovery (usually while you sleep) and if your body is busy doing other things, it can't repair the damage from your run. So you just lose fitness faster, and you don't get well as fast, so you're just in a complete downward spiral. Listen to your doctor, get better and then run. You'll be fine.

I got out for 2.5 miles this morning. My first run since getting pregnant, injuring the ankle, and getting over this terrible cold. Almost a month. I managed it very comfortably, but was extremely conscious of going easy since this was actually in a race, a Valentine's couple's relay I did with DH. We handed DD off like the baton! It was nice to run again. Felt really good, and I have hopes that if I keep it sensible I'll be able to run for a while.

Lisa, you'll be fine, you have to give your body chance to rest. (Says she who should take her own advice more often).

I didn't do my long run yesterday, it was snowy, I'm getting over this bug and I had family staying who had arranged to go to my grandparents for lunch at the time when I wanted to be running (and then put my running stuff in the wash without checking with me whether I needed it).

I did manage 14.25 miles this morning though. I was hoping for a bit more, and the snow had melted, but I decided that as I'm not quite right yet, and I've got running club tomorrow, I'd better take it easy. I'm still ahead of schedule for my marathon though.

Ah, well, so it goes again. I had some bleeding after my run, and while it was superficial, it is likely to happen again, and my OB has told me she didn't recommend doing it any more. So, I'm back to being a lurker for a while.

Another 9 months and I get to start over again!

Lurk as much as you want, Anne! I hope everything is OK with you and you follow those doctors orders.

I did 7.2 miles with running club tonight, I seemed to struggle more than normal, I think this bug is affecting me more than I like to let on. Either that or it was something to do with the hill they made us run up...

I'm rescuing this from page 2. 7.5 miles with running club tonight. I think the cold is gone, I managed to average about 8:25 pace, and just about kept up with some people who would have left me for dead on Monday.

I'm here I ran 6k on Tuesday? I doubt I run tomorrow, the sidewalks are very thick with snow and the windchill will be -29C *shudder*

I did my treadmill intervals this morning because my routine will be a bit messed up tomorrow and over the weekend. 5.87k in 30 minutes.

I wanted to do a longer run today, but I'm travelling and the area doesn't look appealing for a run, particularly as I'd probably get lost, so I did an hour on the treadmill instead. I couldn't face any more than that without losing the will to live.

I ran 2.25 miles on the treadmill tonight. I hadn't run since last Tuesday (eek!) so it was a little tough. I'm supposed to run FOUR miles on the group run tomorrow, and I just don't see that happening! It will definitely be a run/walk.

Thanks, Helen...I did ok, but they mapped out the route wrong and when we finished my husband said it was actually 3 miles. Oh well... I did take two very short walk breaks when we went up some fairly steep hills, and I went VERY slow (back of the pack, definitely), but I made it. Would've been nice to know I made it 4 miles, but I'll take 3!! We're doing 4 next Saturday, so I'll get a second chance (as long as they map it out correctly). I should've headed right back out and run another mile when I found out it was only 3, but I'm not THAT ambitious!

Oh yeah, and it was only 17 degrees out there! Eeek!

Great going Lisa 3 miles is still good

This morning I did 8.69k, at an excruciating slooooow pace 13:53... It was because of the sidewalks, it was like running in granulated sugar... I'm usually slow, but today was a total snail's pace... But on the upside I burned a heck of a lot of calories ...
