  • Finally under 140 lbs. - 139.6. Haven't seen a number under 140 since early 2020. :

  • I, too, like the quote, Alice, "It's the same thing when you are stupid."

Great new scale reading, Dagmar, I love new milestones.

It's peak apple season here in Massachusetts and I haven't had an apple cider donut yet . . . knock on wood.
  • It's our Thanksgiving long weekend here. No big meal - just the 2 of us plus the pets - so I'm making a turkey and black bean and sweet potato chili with a bacon, corn and okra side. We bought a frozen blueberry pie from a specialty pie place and that, along with vanilla ice cream, will be dessert for 2 nights. We're going to a movie tonite so there will be a small popcorn and a bag of candy (which I probably won't eat). So small indulgences each day but no huge pig out.

  • Happy Thanksgiving, Dagmar! Hope you had a great time.

Alice, I love that quotation too!

Having just moved earlier this year, my words of wisdom are that as time goes on, moving gets harder. It's best not to put it off. The older you get, the more a move takes out of you. We had movers and packers, and it was still a major upheaval for us.

That said, be sure you have good reasons for making a move. We did, but it has meant more expense for us than we had back at the old home. We can deal with it, but it meant changing our thinking.

  • Happy Thanksgiving, Dagmar, May you enjoy a sensible feast.

It's a federal holiday here in the US - Indigenous Peoples' Day for some; Columbus day for others.

JayEll, It's fun to read the French and Spanish history of Florida that's making the news as France just won a round in the fight for the spoils of the wreckage of "La Trinite". Read here if your local newspaper isn't full of the story.
  • Bill, that was a good read! I'm glad France may prevail.
Florida has changed hands a few times and has also been divided in the past.
  • Day 3 of antibiotics for a cold that, after about 3 weeks, morphed into what I think is a sinus infection. I have been eating less since I have basically no sense of taste or smell. Will see what the scale says tomorrow.

I don't recommend this for weight loss.

    Dagmar
  • Hope that sinus infection is, by now, long ago history, Dagmar.

As good as living in Florida seems when it's cold here in New England, I'm grateful that we don't have black bears eating our food deliveries as just happened in Orlando per this news article, JayEll.

The bad news is that dinner was a somewhat unhealthy spaghetti and meatballs. The good news is that that's the only meal that we can serve to our (8 yo) DGD who was here for a sleepover. Makes me shudder how much energy is in that lithe little body.

Hope all is well out West, Alice.
  • We're having great weather here, Bill. Rain is in the forecast for later this week, but right now the days are sunny and mild with the nights cold enough to make for good sleeping. No bears stealing our food, either, although I'm sure it could easily happen in the towns closer to the mountains.

I haven't had spaghetti and meatballs in a very long time. I remember it was one of my favorites when I was 8.

New England is a great place to be for the holidays. When I'm feeling nostalgic I'll admit to missing the white winters of my youth, in New York. But those of you who live it every year might like a change.
  • Glad everyone is doing well. No bears here but there are black bears in the bush around where we will be retiring next spring (if all goes as planned). There will be lots of snow there too. We don't really have a lot of options for warm, dry, and sunny all year in Canada - LOL.

    Dagmar
  • Have a Happy Thanksgiving all!

    Dagmar
  • Yes, Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate it in the States. (With Congrats to our Canadian friends who get this done earlier - giving a bigger space between Thanksgiving and Christmas.)

We'll putting together a meal seating eight adults and two kids. Everybody is bringing something so there will be plenty of food. Hopefully, most of the leftovers will go home with the guests.
  • Happy Thanksgiving! I am thankful for my friends, both online and in-person, and for my fairly easy enjoyable life!!
  • Hello all,
Bill, I wanted to tell you that there were plenty of black bears where I lived in western Mass. You are just city folk.
It's the happy time of year when there's a bit of chill in the air in Florida.
May you all have a wonderful December!
  • My car died yesterday. Probably the alternator. No service appointments available at the dealership until next Tuesday. And I have to arrange a tow there. Service department is no longer answering the phone. Hmmm.

At least my clients are sympathetic and I'm not eating to relieve the stress. Good for me!
