  • Welcome to everyone that I haven't gotten around to saying WELCOME too!! Sometimes it takes us a little while to get around to saying we are happy to have you join us! Jut pull up a chair and let us hear from you! We look forward to getting to know you.

Now I need to go and try to figure out why the new update for ITunes didn't work and I had to uninstall the old to reinstall the new---- didn't work. Now I have no iTunes!!! Need to get it figured out!! Be back later.
  • I didn't bother to post my stats last night. I did well all day then at dinner, I made chicken and gravy, mashed potatoes and peas. It all tasted so good to me i did something I rarely do...I had second helpings of everything! That already put me over on calories and carbs and I just gave up and snacked. First I had a slice of fresh pineapple and if I'd left it at that it wouldn't have been so terrible but when I get in that kinda mood I won't. So I'll confess I ate a whole bunch of mixed nuts and drank a light frappa. The only good thing I can say is as badly as I overate, I have done worse in the past. I guess you could say I am a binger when I go off my diet. For a very long time I got away with it (both diet and health wise) but I cannot any more. That is two days this week I've eaten too much, so my weight was back up to 164.4 this morning. So far today I have done much better.

We tasted a sample of Asian Kale Slaw at New Seasons and dh really liked it. He was surprised as he didn't think he liked kale but I think it was because of the dressing on it. So we bought all the ingredients and I am making it tonight and serving it with one steak, which we are sharing.

Cajun - Feel sorry for you all that are battling the freezing weather! Frozen pipes are such a pain.

Donna - Yes do be careful on the ice! With your hip problems already you do not want a fall! Glad you've had some nice weather recently. We have had such nice weather. I was out shopping today and left my jacket in the car! But it is to start raining next week.

Lynn - Congrats on the weightloss. My sister said JC food isn't too bad. She's quit the program now but she made sure to buy a good supply of their coffee shakes before quitting because she really likes them.
  • Hi everyone We are having unseansonable warm weather and the sun was out today and I was wearing a sweater for a jacket. we went to get groc and salt for the water softner. I enjoyed getting out and toodling around wallmart. spent the day doing laundry, and on the puter. I was looking for a few nicer clothes to wear to church so was cruising e-bay. I did find a few nice tops, but was wondering how I would look in a long skirt. haven't worn a skirt or dress in 35 yrs but now that im smaller wonder if id look ok. long skirt and top with a cardigan or jacket over it. hmmm thinking about it.Lynn congrats on the loss, maryea don't be so hard on yourself,as you always get right back to what works for you. life needs to be enjoyed some right Cajun you are having our usual weather, ive had frozen pipes,in fact when its really cold like -25 or so I always open the cabinets under the sinks and trickle the water. no worrys this yr tho. its even been to warm to run the wood stove. anyways im rambling again. hope you all are having a good weekend rosey

  • Most churches are canceled today because of the blizzard we're having so I watched Dr. David Jeremiah on tv, felt good to eat and sip coffee while watching the sermon.

Rosie...you inspired me to make your bun filled hamburger/cabbage recipe. I don't buy frozen bread so had to make the bread dough in my bread machine. It's about ready to come out, the hamb/onion/cabbage is all cooked and ready. I have a question for you, this is going to make a huge batch for just the two of us. Do you suggest I make and bake them all or bake 1/2 of them and try freezing the other 1/2 for another day?
  • Afternoon chicks, lazy day again. I even have dinner left overs so nothing to do until reheat time. TV is a bore. I am pc gamed out and no bridge until Wednesday. The whine is because I just want to know when my knees get done. Waiting is so boring and endless.

Still OP with level one and mfp still tells me how much I will weigh in 2 weeks. Funny but 50 calories will change weight by about a lb. Doesn't make sense.

HBO hooked me the other night. I thought I was watching a movie "True Detective". Watch 2 episodes and then found it was an 8 episode show. What am I going do it comes on tonight at 9 same as Downton Abbey?

Bobbi....bake the rolls and mail them overnight to me. I can smell them baking from here. Bread???? I forgot what that tastes like....yeah sure...

Mary...I picked up a small container of quiano spinach salad with nuts and dried cranberries. It was so good, but think it was more the dressing than the salad. Maybe we can bottle the dressing for sipping over ice!

Rosie....Not burning the wood stove???? Did you move South?

Karen...When will you hear more about DH?

Cajun...My bridge partner just drove thru your area and called that it took her 16 hours yesterday to drive 500 miles. Ice/wrecks/mess.

Going see if I can watch Downton Abbey on Amazon now....that would solve my problem....
  • Happy Sunday everyone! We stopped at Subway for a foot-long to bring home and share for lunch. One 6 incher with no chips fits my diet plan perfectly! It is a beautiful sunny but cold day here.

Here are my stats for yesterday:
    cals 1424
    carbs 189 (net)
    fat 38
    chol 101
    sodium 962
    fiber 21

I had a couple really really good bs yesterday despite starting high! Not just diabetic "normal" but true normal. Wish they were all that way. So far today I've been high. I lost 1.8# this week but still working on getting back down to my pre-holiday weight. It will be interesting to see what the new doctor says if I ever find one. I'm hoping to get an appt set up tomorrow. I think I'll make it for both of us if I can.

I'm still kinda concerned about dh. He is tired and short of breath a lot, with any exertion and he said he even felt it a little in church this morning. It could be related to the anemia ..he's kinda pale too, but actually the fatigue and shortness of breath has been coming on for a couple years now. This is just the worst he's had it. The doctor never seemed concerned really, but at one point he had very slightly low thyroid lab so he put him on thyroid med but it doesn't seem to make any difference with his fatigue. We've mentioned it several times now so we assume he thought it was just his age.

Bobbi/Rosey - The hamburger/cabbage buns sound great! They make me think of the bierocks I used to buy at a bakery as a kid. They had hamburger, onions and cabbage in a large bakery bun and were SO yummy! My friends who still live in KS still make them. I have made them a few times through the years but since my diabetes dx I don't dare have them around me, just too many carbs and way too tempting!

Karen31 - Did you get the iTunes thing figured out?

Karen3 - Just saw your post so editing. Your salad sounds good too. I've usually not much for dressing on my salad but dh sure is. He's always looking for good Asian dressing esp. I did like the dressing on the Kale slaw and I'm sure dh will enjoy it with other salads too. We both like the Fresh Express Asian Blend and I like the dressing, won ton strips and cherries they have in it. So guess I am changing in that way. About the shows, can't you record it? These days I prefer to tape everything and watch it later zipping through the commercials, however our plan only allows us to tape 2 while watching one. I thought it was 3500 calories=1 lb!
  • Mary...the recipe I used is called Bierocks German hamburger and cabbage filled buns. See recipe below. I used my bread machine to make the dough instead of doing it by hand.
I printed out this recipe but renamed it Rosie's Alaskan Bear Paws.

    Quote:
They make me think of the bierocks I used to buy at a bakery as a kid.
    Quote:
Bierocks German hamburger & cabbage filled buns aka Rosie's Bear Paws
Cook time: 30 Min Serves: varies depending upon how large you make them
    FILLING INGREDIENTS
4 c cabbage, chopped into about 1/4 inch bites
    1/2 c onions, diced
    2 Tbsp oil
    1 lb hamburger
    salt and pepper to taste
    DOUGH INGREDIENTS
    4 1/3 c all purpose flour
    1 pkg active dry yeast
    1 c milk
    1/3 c sugar
    1/3 c butter
    get recipes @ goboldwithbutter.com
    1 tsp salt
    2 eggs
    Directions
    1. FILLING: In a large frying pan, cook the cabbage and onion together until the cabbage is completely softened and golden. ** This process can be hastened by adding a half-cup of water (or so) and covering the pan, but eventually cook all the liquid off before proceeding.
    2. Season with salt and pepper.
    3. In a separate pan, brown the hamburger and drain. ** Season with salt and pepper.
    4. Mix the cabbage/onion with the hamburger thoroughly. ** You may complete this part of the recipe in advance, refrigerating until needed, or just before you are ready to assemble the rolls.
    5. DOUGH: In a large mixing bowl combine 2 cups of the flour and the yeast.
    6. In a saucepan heat milk, sugar, butter and salt just till warm (115-120 degrees F) and butter is almost melted; stir constantly.
    7. Add to flour mixture; add eggs.
    8. Beat at low speed for 1/2 minute, then three minutes at high speed.
    9. Stir in as much remaining flour as you can mix in with a spoon.
    10. Turn out onto a floured surface. Knead in enough remaining flour to make a moderately stiff dough that is smooth and elastic (6 to 8 minutes total).
    11. Shape into a ball, and place in a greased bowl; turn once. Cover and let rise in a warm place till double (about 1 hour). Punch down and cover; let rest 10 minutes.
    12. ASSEMBLY: Roll out the dough into a large rectangle, and a thickness of about 1/4 inch.
    13. Cut into squares of 3 inches by 3 or 4 inches by 4.
    14. By the spoonful, place some filling mixture into the center of each square, apportioning all of the mixture among the squares.
    15. For each, bring the two opposite corner ends of the dough square up to meet one another, then do the same with remaining ends and pinch them (all 4) together with your fingers.
Bierocks German hamburger and cabbage filled buns
    16. You will see that you now have open slits along the diagnals; pinch these together as well, making a seam of each. ** Water on your fingertips will facilitate them staying"glued" together.
    17. The end product should be a square with a seam running from each corner to the center where all four are joined.
    18. Set the squares on a baking sheet (if you had trouble keeping the seams closed, you can flip them over so that the seams are against the baking sheet, thereby keeping all the filling in place and making a nicer presentation).
    19. Let raise 30 minutes. ** Bake in a pre-heated oven at 375 °F for 30 minutes or until golden brown. When removing from the oven brush each bun with melted butter.
  • K3...ha ha, the other 6 went unbaked and in the freezer. Bruce thought they were unique and delicious. He said if I put some Worcestershire sauce in them, they'd taste like 'Maid Rites'.

Rosie...hard to believe how good they are with the few simple ingredients in them. These are a keeper recipe, thanks for sharing. I got 12 buns with a little stuffing left over.

I made some oven fries to go with them, just spuds tossed in olive oil, onion and garlic powder and course salt.

The deer often eat with the turkey, friendly aren't they!

  • Well, it has been a good Sunday. Went to church and then met family at Del Rio's for lunch.. Yummy-- gonna have to do double duty to undo the weight that the burrito, refried beans and rice did to me!! Oh well, it was delicious and although I may be wanting to lose weight I DON'T WANT TO GIVE UP LIFE!! So when these things happen-- just have to go with it and get back on track afterwards. Life is to short to worry all the time.. And besides that "I'm already married and I'm not running for office" so if I'm "fluffy" it will just have to be! Ok That was my pep talk to me--- I feel better!

Still haven't heard from the Dr. about Tim... I think he will call tomorrow afternoon if he hasn't heard anything by then. I just want to know and see what there is that can be done for him. He still has gas pain every time he eats anything and even when he thinks he really wants something to eat after a couple bites it just doesn't taste good. So still keep those prayers coming!

Mary, yes I got the ITunes done.. GRRRR!! It took a while but I got the newest version on both my laptop and my desktop now. And my brother had problems with his and brought it over to me this afternoon and I got his all fixed too. I must be the only one in the family that has patience--- not I think it is more I will not let this thing beat me!! Anyway, I feel better and now when it comes time up update my iphone and ipad I am all set!! Can't update either of those if you don't have the newest version of ITunes other wise it wipes out your iphone or ipad. I learned that the hard way!! But on the bright side I got a new phone!! That was 2 years ago.

Guess I'd better stop rambling now and do something.. I want to watch the Bachelor Wedding tonight!! I like Sean and Catherine.. I hope they have a wonderful marriage like Trish and Ryan!! Love those two!!

Take care everyone and I'll be back
  • Bobbie - Yes I think they would freeze fine. What a great fast lunch. Yes your recipe sounds like how I made them. Maybe I'll make some and freeze all but one for each of us. Then thaw them out for now then.. one each at a time.

Karen3 - I have a problem with backing up the music on our iPhones. Other stuff backs up to either my picture folder on my computer or to iCloud. But the songs should back up to iTunes and only some of my mine and none of dh's will back up. Before iTunes upgraded I could upload all our music the only thing is they would merge together so I had to go through and uncheck and it was a bother but I'd do it. But now I'm just not getting them into iTunes.

Well this is my 2nd time to be posting here today. I'm listening to some youtube tapes I enjoy while I'm typing.

ETA: Just can't stay away from this site tonight! Was on this site and though some one might enjoy it. It's been online for ages so you may already know about. I've known about it for a long time and still love reading it. I think they've added to it now and then and changed things around a bit. Not all the foods they use in their menu plans are healthy but it is very down to earth and I like that. http://www.dietbites.com/sitebio.html
  • Good evening GG’s,

It has been a pretty nice day. Beautiful temperature ~ about 70* ~ and sun shiny. I walked in the driveway with my walker while talking to my sister, then sat for a few minutes in a chair just to enjoy the day. I should have/wish now I had ~ stayed out there longer and enjoy it.

Our town has free concerts in the park which start in March. In previous years we went a few times, but now that I am no longer working, we should be able to go to as many as we want, unless the weather doesn’t cooperate. I love listening to live music outside ~ there is something about it that makes it feel like such a treat.

Maddie is back tomorrow after school. Some of the last days have been kind of challenging. She is going through a sassy stage ~ not so much fun. But when she gets settled down and behaving better ~ she is so sweet. She gave me a sort of spa day the other day. She washed my face and hands, combed my hair and put finger nail polish on my nails. I look at my hands and they look funny to me ~ I haven’t had nail polish on for probably 30 years.

Mary ~ what kind of tapes do you listen to on Youtube? Like audio books or something? Glad you have has some good blood sugar readings. Hope everything is ok with Joe.

CK ~ or now I guess it should be MK ~ glad you had a nice Sunday with family. Hope you get some news soon with results of Tim’s tests ~ and praying that everything is ok. And your mamogram/ultrasound too.

Bobbi ~ thank you for doing up the recipe for Rosey’s Bear Paws ~ they sound delicious. Thank you also for the jello recipe. I got the stuff, now just need to think about it early enough in the day and get some made.

K3 ~ sounds like you had a nice restful afternoon. Way to go still being OP. Hope you hear soon a date for your knee surgery. Glad your new chair is comfy.

Rosey ~ glad you have had some nice weather and could enjoy being out and about. Thank you for sharing the recipe for those hamburger cabbage bun things. They sound really tasty.

Cajun ~ glad you got a chance to sleep in and catch up on your rest a little. You go and go all week, then your camping keeps you busy, so it is good you got a chance to take it easy and just relax a bit.

Donna ~ glad you have had enjoyable weather. Hope maybe your weather people are wrong and you don’t get that icy stuff ~ don’t want you slipping and falling either.

Lynn ~ congratulations on the loss. How long before your classes are over? Your visit to that museum and seeing the Grace Kelly clothes sounded nice ~ you get to see so many interesting places.

Welcome Mp Mary and Miss Molly~ glad you’ve joined us.

Belated Happy Birthday Gramie ~ hope it was a great day.

Almost bed time now. Hope you all have had a nice weekend.

    Take care

Here is a picture DD Sara sent me of a Maddie creation. She loves to make stuff and is so creative.

  • Oooops! Gayle, Sorry, I did get my results back and there wa a little something but they aren't to concerned about it--- just need to repeat in 6 months! Sorry I didn't mention that earlier... I wasn't to worried anyway but Thanks for thinking of me!

I froze them(all ready baked) and they thaw well in the micro wrapped in a papertowel for 1/1/2 min. Karen 31 hope you get some answers soon about Tim and im fluffy too. mr cranky said some insensitive things about me and I said when am I going to be enough ? Im so done and this is what you get im not perfect but I like me and that's ok.im 65 and want to enjoy life for whatever time I have left im not going to stress about it. doesn't mean im not careful as I don't want to go backwards for sure, but ive tried every diet, finally had my guts rearranged lost a bunch and then had a tummy tuck I told him I AM DONE so haven't heard apeep since ad I love that. oops sorry for the rant but its something im passionate about as we all are good enough just the way we are.i watched the grammys and heard a new song by Hunter Hayes called Invisable it so reminded me of my grson who has had a rough year. check it out I really likd it.. well here I am rambling and ranting. its been one of those dys where my last nerve was stepped on. tommorrows a new day.. hugs for all rosey

  • Thanks for the bday wishes. My name is Debbie by the way. I have 3 adult kids and 4 grandkids and 5th one is due any day now.
Hubby got me a cake and it was sooo good. We shared with our kids and neighbors. Don't need it in the house!!

I am down 10lbs this month. 5lbs since Thursday. I am on antibotics and they really hurt my stomach. I do think I am feeling better finally!

We were at 58 yesterday and single digits highs tomorrow. I hate winters like this!!

I read the recliner stories and laughed. My 16yr old recliner died in nov also. I love my new one!
  • Good morning girls. Had a very restful weekend but ....... Here goes k3. Didn't do well on my eating. We got to the camp at noon on Friday. It looked like a winter wonderland. I took my camper and walked inthe woods to tske pics. Saturday morning I woke up and could hardly walk. My knee is swollen and painful. It had been bothering me off and on for a month or so. I would notice it when I climb in my tree stand. I really think I tore my meniscus. I've been taking ibuprofen and it's helping. Sunday we cooked at youngest sons house for supper. Today it's going to be down hill from noon until Thursday noon. The weather men say we are going to get anither artic blast worse than the one Friday. They are saying 60 hours below freezing with sleet/snow 3" or better lasting very long. Friday they had 1500 wrecks in south louisiana. Major interstate and local roads shut down. We had curfews to be off the roads. People here are not use to driving in these conditions. State don't have machinery for de icing roads. One big mess. I'm all electric. If we lose power were in trouble.

Menomary. Hi welcome. Great bunch of ladies we have here.

    Lynn congrats on your loss.

Donna is it cold your way?

Mary sending prayers for dh we did get the pipes thawed Friday afternoon. We went to bed and forgot all about the water. It froze again. Didn't thaw until Saturday afternoon. Lol. Don't know what we were thinking.

Bobbi I love your backyard pic with the deer and turkey's. My dh and ds's would be in a state of wanting to shoot the deer and wanting to admire and not shoot them at the same time. So very beautiful.

Karen31 love the pep talk. Needed that. I agree 100%. Praying for Tim. Hope you get answers soon. I also love Sean and Catherine. I missed the first part but did get to see the wedding. I love her giggly personality.

K3 how's the new recliner. We are liking ours. Any news on the knee surgery? Our weather was a mess Friday. They think it's going to he worse this time.

Gayle I finally got a much needed rest. I slept until 8 am. I think it was September since I slept that late. I heard Houston had very icy conditions too Friday. We are getting ready for round 2.

Rosey love the fluffy description. That's me too. Hunter Hayes is from a town near us called Breaux bridge la. About 20 minutes from our house and about 10 minutes from our camp. We met hunter when he was 10. YHis dad Leo owned a boat shop and when we had our boat built Leo did all the wiring and installed everything on it. We bought the boat motor and trailer from him also. One afternoon we had gone there to see progress on the boat and hunter was there banging on a set of drums. Our boys were playing with him on the shop. He can play just about any instrument there is. Very surprised to have the icy weather here and mild in Alaska. We have very strange weather lately. They all blame it on global warming. Something is happening for sure.

Debbie happy birthday. Congrats on the weight loss.

Sorry if I missed anyone. Gotta scoot outa here.
    Hugs
    Cajun.
