  • CORRECTION,

Okay, so I went to someone who actually knows what their talking about on the matter and I actually Hyperextended my bicep. And FYI heat is the best option. But in the meantime, it hurts, owie
  • Hi everyone, well it's back to the old grind for me today! (MLK Day yesterday, no work) -- I keep trying to think of an excuse to call in! You all sound in good spirits, so here's to a great week OP, and the last week of the challenge! Let's kick some butt!

As you know, I have a LOT of weight to lose, so it is still coming off fairly quickly... on average a little more than 3 pounds a week. I know it will slow down as I get closer and closer to my goal. As for the water, I try to drink as much as I can for the health benefits, but I don't know how much it contributes to hastening the weight loss. For me, I've noticed that whenever I get a "tough" workout in, I show really quick loss... you'd think that I would do it all the time, right? I try to at least walk every day, and do the aerobics tapes as many times as I can get myself to: 3-4 times a week seems to be good for me right now.

Well, I am going to check the journals out now. I hope everyone has a great day!

    ~Amy
  • Ouch Dips!
Ouchie Dips! I know that's gotta hurt! Good you will be resting your arms today

Di: Hope to see your posts soon!

Choci:You are doing great keep it going. The weight loss may slow down as you reach your goal because you will be weighing less and burning less calories at that time.My friend for example...we both can get on the elliptical machine and in 6 minutes she has burned 127 calories and I've burned like 75 calories. But she weighs more than I do.That's the main reason. Later on just add a few more minutes to your activities.

Jen: I hear ya on the 2lb a week goal. I always wanted to see at least a 2 lb loss or more a week.It just seemed to me that after all the sacrifice 1 little pound wasnt enough reward. And we all know that isnt true! The last few weeks Iwas only losing like 1.5 a week and then the next week 0. But it adds up .

Lidian: your 4 lb goal sounds great .Remember even if you get to lose 3 lbs of your4 lb goal it's still great. You are close girl!

Clarita: the water thing Ihave tosay is a MUST. IT keeps you hyrdrated and helps you properly digest your food. IT also helps tremendously your bowels. I found that if I ate at least 2 fibery fruits per day and at least 6 glasses of water a day. I did #2 every single day. Those were the weeks when I lost the most. Now the week that I didnt have enough water, I found myself skipping trips to the bathroom for #2.
Anyway I better go and make me some breakfast!

  • I've also been reading some stuff about how water helps your liver function and speeds fat removal from your body - but I'm not sure how true that is. I know that being hydrated is really important too.. Though I would agree with Dips that having to run to the bathrrom all day is probably a way to build extra exercise into your day *L* I find I do tend to lose more weight (not to mention feel much better) on weeks when I drink more water - but it could also be that those are the weeks I am also making sure I get the fruits and veggies in too, so I'm not sure how scientific that is.

Dips, sorry about your arm. I'm a big believer in icing - cuz it will reduce swelling, but I have also heard of cycling hot and cold as a treatment some recommend. Let us know what works for you. I would be curious...

Find myself a bit stiff and sore today. Think I might be overdoing it a bit on the cardio at the gym. I try to get there 4 times a week and lately I've been doing interval training... Body is complaining... Does this mean I'm getting old??? *L*

    Everyone have a great day!
  • Dips my hubby tore his bicep tendon a few years ago lifting weights. It healed without him doing anything to it but then he went and reinjured it by (get this) arm wresting. You know how men are. He ended up going to the Chiropractror. They did ultrasound on his arm and it eventually got better. Take your time and let it heal. You don't want to make it worse.
  • Good morning, buddies!

I lose about 1 pound a week lately - but I'm also taking my time and not being as strict as I can be. I know BB and I are doing this forever - so I can't see what the rush is. I've gotten the worst of the excess weight off and feel more comfortable again - so the rest can come off at a pound a week and still get me into short sleeves by the warm weather.

Jen - the best light cheese I've found is the Cabot brand - the one I use is cheddar but since it melts well and isn't sharp - I use it for omelettes/pizzas/quesadillas and on Bocaburgers. I know they have a Monterey or Pepper Jack Light - but my grocery store doesn't seem to carry it.

When you compare the Cabot Light with part-skim mozzarella you may find the calories very similar and may be able to get store brand cheaper for pizzas. Most part skim mozz is about 80 with 4.5 g of fat.

Dontcha LOVE those pita pizzas?? I could eat them every day, I think. Mostly I save them up for Friday night so they stay a special treat. Splitting them for lunch saves you calories for later in the day. I add mushrooms, red peppers, turkey pepperoni, scallions - whatever!

Price-Rite has six pitas in a bag at 2 for $1! Most of the time they carry Garlic pitas, too. Awesome.

Have you seen the ads in the magazinse for the Apple diet - they are promoting Washington State apples - one before each meal. They say - if you don't lose weight all you've lost is 75 cents a day! LOL
  • Yes! My husband and I are going to try the apple thing for 2 weeks and see if it works. I'm tweaking it a little though. The only meal I'll have a apple first is dinner. That should help my craving for seconds. It seems silly to me to eat an apple first when no matter what I'm going to eat a cup of yougurt. Breakfast and lunch are usually in control, portion contol anyway. So apple snacks and an apple before dinner. And the Washington Apple Board will love me. Gold's Gym is co-sponsering a contest. The grand prize is $500,000! You have to send a before & after photo and be on the diet for 12 weeks. They also want you to buy the diet program, which costs 10 bucks or so, but you don't have to to enter.
I think I might have strep throat. I'm going to ths Dr this afternoon. Its to the point where I don't want to eat because it hurts too much to swallow. Not healthy but maybe I'll lose an extra pound or two. I have TOM to deal with this week too. All I can think of is GET ME PENICILLIN!!! And even when i get it I won't feel better until probably this time tomorrow. Ugh. I'll check in again later.
  • Dips, I'm sorry to hear about your injury. Concentrating on your lower body for a while sounds like a good idea! Doesn't it just seem like you're getting into a good rythym and BAM out of now where something unpleasant sets you back a couple of steps? That's my life anyway. I've got one more pound to lose this week to reach my goal for this challenge. I'm hoping to beat it by at least one pound. I know if I can just eat right, I can do it! I cheated just a little each day this weekend. After a wonderful day all day on Sat, I had ribs at Ruby Tues for dinner. THey were so worth it though!!!! Then on Sunday I had popcorn and pop at the movies. And yesterday dh's friend came over to help with the bathroom and they ordered wings. So, of course I had to have a few, which turned into 8! Man were they good! We'd never ordered from that place before, and it's only 1/8 of a mile a way. THat could be very dangerous!!! WWAAHHHH!! But I think I'm back on track this morning. I made a big batch of WW 0 point soup last night. It has veggies in it that I had never even heard of before!! Man is it good! So I had a big bowl of that and an apple for lunch. A 2 point lunch, a very filling. Maybe I CAN do this.
This sight has been giving me problems all day! Here's to hoping this goes through...TTFN,
  • My Dr. didn't even bother taking a throat culture, she just prescibed antibiotics. I'm feeling a little better today, but I still can't eat. Yesterday I had a bagel for breakfast and it was torture getting it down. I don't know how I did it. Even tea was hurting. I tried some ice cream, but the chocolate in it hurt. Tried some yougurt this morning, but I could only handle a few bites. Coffee is going down OK though. Great diet, eh? Fortunately, I'm not really feeling very hungry. Well, I figure the worst is over.
Oh man, I love Chicken wings. I used to live in Buffalo so I'm kind of a snob about them. It seems the further away I get from Buffalo the worse they get.
So they should be decent in Ohio, yes? Of course, there are exceptions but you have to be willing to go beyond local. I gained 10 pounds in Buffalo, mostly from beer, but chicken wings didn't help any.
Well, I hope everyone has a great day!!
  • AppleBlossom~~~sorry to hear of your throat infection. It sounds as bad as the one I had a few weeks back. I hope you get better quick with the meds the DR put you on. Apple thing?

Di~~~How are you doing, girlfriend? I hope you are toning up those arms. Don't stress you will be back to your old self soon enough.

Who was the wicked beast that mentioned buffalo wings....YUM!

Dips~~~Are you feeling any better? Take it easy on that arm.

Laney~~~My motto is that food is not the enemy it's how much we eat and how much exercise we do or don't get.

Rusty~~~We don't have a Price Rite here in town and I have yet to find those yummy pita's you speak so fondly of. We have Wal Mart and H.E.B. grocery stores here. I would really like to try those pizza pita's.

Madcat~~~Water is just GOOD. I think that is the one freebie we can count on always...LOL.

Gennel~~~How is the house coming along? I bet you can sleep alot easier now.

My mom bought her 2nd cardio glide and is going to sale me her 1st one. I can't wait...luckily I have a large enough living to hold all my equipment. Actually I will have more room once I get rid of an old computer desk and another roll top desh that we don't use. But anyway that cardio glide is impressive...you are in a sitting position, you put your feet on these foot pedals, and put your arms on the bars in front. As you pull with your arms toward you, you push with your feet down, and your seat comes up and foward. Boy that thing works your arms, legs (a bit), and your abs. I can't wait to get it here.

I am out of here. I have TONS of homework due tomorrow and I am not even half way done. Talk to you all again.
    Kina
  • Hey Appleblossom! How do you think I ended up like I did? I live in the Buffalo area! The best chicken wings, pizza, not to mention beef on weck and god knows everything else...

Did I mention I'm going to look for work in Vermont?
  • Hey everyone!! I haven't been posting much lately. It is nice to see everyone so active and happy. My mother in law decided (the day after my husband told her I was dieting again) to deliver about 5 pounds of candy and 3 packs of cookies to the kids. Isn't she sweet???!!!??? Needless to say I have been fighting the urge to eat it. I have been craving a binge day with Chinese and cookies and I have no idea why. It is starting to piss me off actually. I am so close to my jeans fitting and now I am craving junk. I will not do it!!!
  • Angie, you're doing so well staying OP. It's a shame your mother-in-law doesn't know how to be supportive. Like our kids need a bunch of candy any more than we do! I'm glad you hopped on and posted instead of giving in to the urge to binge. I know you can stay away from the candy. Chinese, huh? I wonder if anyone (Rusty) has good ideas for good-for-us Chinese food that would help stave off or redirect those cravings.
Kina, lucky you. My sister has a cardio-glide. I got a cheap imitation one time and it's not the same at all. I love hers, hate mine. I think it went in the last yard sale!
I've spent the week rearranging furniture, getting rid of stuff I don't need (lots more to go) and painting. Grandma's room is just about ready, my garage looks great and my shed is ready to hold more stuff. My room looks like a cyclone hit, however. I figure I'll have time to deal with that after grandma moves in. She's coming on Friday. My mom is watching my daughter Thursday night and I'm going to go out with some of my friends. So far so good this week with the food. Excersize? Don't wanna talk about it!

  • The Apple Diet
I havent heard that one yet. I do eat 1-2 apples a day just for the fiber and to get my fruits in for the day. It has a good amount of fiber/fibre . It has more fiber ifyou eat it with the skin! Almost twice as much. The fiber makes me go to the bathroom the next morning like clockwork! I think for those two reasons it might be a help to any diet. Let me know how it works after a week!

What gym is having a contest for how much? $500,000 is that correct or is it $500? $5,000 Im like wow half a million? IF thats true then that is awesome and I would go for it if I was you girl!

    ttfn,Gen
  • Jen~~~Did your sister benefit from using it regularly...I mean of course she did. But I guess what I want to know if she used it regularly in what areas did she first notice the difference in her body?

    thanks, Kina
