I agree with Sabra that morning sickness is so varied. I mostly just had moments of nausea and never really "got sick." Mine did go away around 9 weeks though. I too had a m/c before this one so I would always be expecting the worst before all appt.

I'm doing much better. Those pains finally stopped and I'm now just having the occasional ctx. I tried to rest as much as possible this weekend and am feeling loads better. Got in some good crying too. Remind myself not to watch sappy movies like Rudy any more in the next 3 weeks .

Dawn, I am SO relieved to know your nausea went away early, too. The miscarriage has definitely made me pretty gun shy. Hopefully I will get over it. I am not worried about preterm labor so much as losing them early like last time. I am glad you are still pregnant. I have been thinking about you and Aphil this weekend...hoping y'all were holding on

I made it through hosting the baby shower this weekend...BARELY. Friday night, I though for sure that I was going to have to call my MIL and SIL to come and get all of the party supplies. I had contractions all night-and some of them so severe that I had to go to the bathroom right afterwards. I was up walking around...and trying to get them to subside with no luck.
All day Saturday I had ctx as well...and they started really getting into my lower back. My back pain from Saturday until today feels like my "back labor" that I had with my son-due to this positioning during labor/birth. (head down, but facing the wrong way-I forget what it's called)

I had my doctor pages this morning around 7:30, and he called me back and said I was "sweet" for dealing with this all weekend...and waiting until Monday morning to call. (My doctor has a great bedside manner. )
I told him my dh is on call for his job as well, and we also get the 2am phone calls...so I was trying to avoid that unless it was necessary.

My regular appt. and size ultrasound is on Thursday, but he is going to go ahead and see me this afternoon-here in just under 2 hours-to see if there is anything "going on"-any dilation, effacement, or anything to be concerned about.

With my dd, the contractions were painful all the way through...but with my ds, my labor was just like how I feel now, until my water broke at 8cm dilated. It was more backache/being "aware" of contractions...rather than pain until that LATE point. I just told the doc I didn't want to be unknowlingly walking around at 5-6cm and "not know" until I was having the baby in the van. (Once my water broke at 8cm with ds, I was at 10cm and ready to push in about 30 minutes or less.)

So...hopefully here in a few hours I will know SOMETHING-either that something is happening, or I have more discomfort to deal with for the next week or so...

Dairy – I never had much morning sickness I was just nauseated during the site/smell/taste of certain foods, particularly healthy foods. For the most part this quit around 10 weeks, which I think is normal, but every once and awhile I still get a little nauseated from certain smells. I've read with carrying twins your morning sickness can be twice as bad but you can also be the same as carrying only one. I also know many women who weren’t sick at all with their son and were horribly sick with their daughter or vise-versa. I think it just varies so much with each pregnancy and has more to do with the children you’re carrying. To make you feel better, you should be able to take comfort in the fact that you have all the other symptoms of being pregnant!

Aphil – you’re a trooper. I think I would have been on the phone driving my doctor and the OB nurses nuts. I was induced with my son almost two weeks early so I never experience anything like that. If I do have any early contractions this time around I’ll probably go into a panic thinking its time to deliver. Good luck at your appointment!

Aphil, I'm nowhere near as sweet as you. DH gets called at crazy hours even when he isn't on call because he has a computer engineering degree whereas most people at his job just went for programming or stuff...so I do sympathize. I guess I don't care as much because I have the "I'm more important and urgent than a drilling operation" attitude Plus, doctors get paid BANK. I am bringing 2 c-sections into the practice shortly...they can suck it up I have been really wanting to call for every nagging concern, but I have abstained. Mine is paranoia, not real medical issues.

Dawn...about the "other symptoms" of pregnancy. I am still tired, heart-burney-and with a much faster pulse than my non-pregnant self. I have noticed my boobs are finally not looking like I've taped 2 tic tacs on there for the first time in weeks! I guess it's all the sensitivity, but it was so embarrassing seeing as how I don't own padded bras. I just had to do what my husband said and make sure they didn't look cross-eyed

Well, I'm back.

DairyFairy-as far as nausea, etc. goes...I had traditional morning sickness with my daughter through the first trimester-and I could only eat a very few limited foods/drinks. (fresh fruit, spaghetti, kid cereal, and Gatorade...) until after the 12 week mark. With my son, I had NO morning sickness at all...and with this baby boy-I have had morning sickness the worst of all-and it went all the way up until around 20 weeks, and then it still pops up occasionally.

Well, here is the scoop on my dr. visit. I am 36 weeks and 2 days now...and when I went in, he measured my belly first. I am now measuring at 41!

He actually said "God bless you" when he told me the measurement.

Well, at my last cervical check a few weeks ago-I was closed up tight...and this afternoon (after the weekend of bad contractions and backache) I am now 50% effaced, and dilated to 3cm. So...it looks like I AM in early labor. We decided that I would come back home for now since it seems to be moving at a slow pace-and because the baby seems to be dealing with it fine. He kept my ultrasound appt. for Thursday morning if I make it that long-but I am to call him if the contractions get stronger or more frequent, or I feel any pressure/water breaks/anything else that would mean further progression. I am kindof glad-I didn't want to spend a day or two in the hospital "doing nothing and being bored" before it is actually time.
As it stands now...he knows it's a big one, so when the time comes-there is a good chance for a quickie ultrasound size check and c-section. I just have to keep him informed of any changes.
So...now the waiting begins, and the trying to deal with the contractions and backache. Hopefully I will have a new baby sometime this week.

Hi, It's been a long time, I lurk, I need to post more. I'm glad to hear everyone is hanging in there.

Aphil, Keep us posted. My son was posterior, I think that's the term for when the baby is "sunny side up" which results in nasty back labor and typically a longer labor as well.

I'm currently 27 weeks pregnant but measuring 30-31...ah the joys of a big baby. I'm not sure why I have such big kids because I'm normally a small person, but it's just the way it works for me. This is my 2nd child, a girl, and I'm so concerned because already I feel HUGE and have a long way to go. Anyone else in this situation?? I do not have gestational diabetes or any other type of condition, I've gained approx. 25 pounds so far, which is better than I was doing at this point with my son, but I realize it's still quite a lot. I feel like I've gained most of it right in my stomach -- my belly is huge!! I worry that this baby will be too big for regular delivery; I have an ultrasound tomorrow at 8 am so I'll let you all know!!

As for morning sickness, I had it terribly this time around until about 17 weeks at which point I felt better, suddenly. Before that I lived on fruit, carbs and cottage cheese and slept on the couch at least 4-5 hours a day!! Dairy, I worried that I would be sick my entire pregnancy, but now m/s seems like so long ago!

I have a question, do any of you ever experience severe headaches/migraines while being pregnant? I did for 6 months straight with my first pregnancy and I was completely miserable and now I think they just starter again on Sunday night with this pregnancy. I’m really hoping it’s just my “typical” headache that I would get every few weeks prior to being pregnant and that in a few days it will be gone but I’m having my doubts. If any of you have any suggestions on what to do for them I would greatly appreciate it. When I go to my next doctor’s appointment I’ll talk to him about it again, but until them all I can take is Tylenol and I’m guessing that will be all he suggests as well. With my first pregnancy I even went to a neurologist. He prescribed me vicodin, of course I didn’t take it. I was like “okay I can take a narcotic, but not Advil”? I don’t think so. This morning my headache was so bad I even turned to coffee hoping the caffeine would help. I’m not normally a coffee drinker and as we all know caffeine is supposed to be limited while pregnant, but I was desperate. The caffeine just kind of masked it, it’s still here, just not as bad.

I am feeling a little depressed lately. I know some of it is just "life" stuff (mostly finances, especially with me quitting work when the baby is born, and living on student loans for the next 4-5 years while DH attends chiropractic school) but a lot of it has to do with my pregnancy. Everything is fine, and I'm SO grateful. I'm measuring on (I'm 31 weeks tomorrow) and I feel little Reilly all the time. I know I should just be counting my blessings, but I'm having a hard time dealing with how heavy and big I feel like I've gotten in the last 6 weeks. I am also depressed about how much I have gained (over 40 lbs already) but I can't seem to do anything about it. After working full time all day and not sleeping well at night, there's little time or energy for exercise (plus it's either WAY hot or really humid and kind of hot here right now). And I don't have much energy left for will power - I hate finding things to eat, and more often than not, the healthy stuff just doesn't sound good! In some ways I wish I DID have GD so it would make me control my eating. J/k, but it's discouraging. I don't eat a lot anymore, but I'm not eating much of the right things. I don't want to keep gaining so much, but it's still happening. They are watching me, and there doesn't seem to be anything wrong. Just lack of will power and bad genes. ;-) Sorry for a downer post, but I'm just having a hard time yesterday/today and I thought it might help to write it down. I'm glad everyone seems to be doing fairly well - I love to read about your progress!

Dawn, I sometimes got serious 2-3 days headaches with my first pregnancy and now this one. I try relaxing in a warm bath, getting DH to rub my shoulders, pinching between the webbing between my thumb and forefinger (don't know why, but sometimes works), using icy hot on my temples and neck, and taking tylenol. I think it is a combination of not sleeping well, hormones, and body changes. Anyway, tylenol sometimes helps but a good old cappuccino seems to help the most. That heat plus the caffeine seem to do the trick. I wouldn't be worried about the caffeine, esp if you are not a big caffeine drinker anyway. I had a boss look at me like I was killing my baby drinking a cappuccino (fully leaded), but it was probably the only time I did it my whole pregnancy and enough was enough. The baby senses you and you feeling good is good for both of you. The only caffeine I have had for a while is tea in restaurants

Sara, I know the feeling of despair when your body is not totally in your control anymore. I gained 57 lbs with my little one. I tried to moderate, but I did eat hot wings if I wanted hot wings and a donut if I wanted a donut. I didn't make the best choices. While I did pay a price for it (namely that DS has never had a taste for veggies), my weight was not that price. Try to buck up and do right. It isn't too late. I lost 33 lbs 2 weeks postpartum, and with you staying home and nursing you may lose weight a lot faster than you think. A lot of folks may thinking staying home would make you eat more, but you generally don't have a job to go to where you eat lunch with your friends or eat from the vending machine. Honestly, I remember it being a rare exciting thing to eat myself I got back down to pre-pregnancy weight AND lost 21 lbs more on top of that. I would find a sandwich that was a few hours old that I never got a chance to eat due to nursing or whatever and I felt like I got a gift from the food fairy. Try to stock your home with healthy choices and tell DH not to enable you...even if you are bearing his first born

Well...I think things may be progressing a little bit. Anyone who has had natural labors (as in NOT induced in the hospital) please let me know if any of this sounds familiar...

I think I might be losing my mucous plug from the dilation...I don't want to give "too much information" so I'll stop there.

Also, the back pain is getting worse...and I have just hit the place where my body is saying DO NOT EAT. So...I am sticking with water, 7-up, and Gatorade for now. No food...lest it evacuate in one way or another. I have heard this is a common symptom-but I was induced both times before, and they never let me eat ANYWAY during the labor-so I never got to "fully" experience it. Midwife-is this pretty common?????

So...I am here for now. Still nesting, but trying to rest and keep track of my symptoms so I know when to call the doctor.

So will you try to go natural since he is early? I know you were thinking c-section because of size complications.

Aphil, your system "clearing out" before you go into labor is normal, but for me it started something like a week or two before I finally went into labor with Esther. Losing your mucous plug is a sign that you are dialating, but dialation without a regular pattern of contractions does not mean you're going to go into labor any time soon (few doctors, thankfully, even bother with internal exams anymore), especially for multiparas. Still, everything taken together is a good indicator. I was paranoid this last time that I wouldn't realize when I went into labor, because I really hadn't before, but it was somehow unmistakeable.

Dairy - Congrats on the twins, that is so exciting.

Dawnal - How are you doing?

Aphil - there is no mistaking labor, I've gone into labor twice and there was no mistaking it. One thing I notices was I couldn't sit still or anything. I lost my plug the week coming up to it and both times it was the middle of the night, so I sort of just knew.

Dawn - I had headaches with this pregnancy, they seem to have gone away now for the most part. Headaches are just another symptom of pregnancy but it they are too severe definately talk to your doctor. It coudl be sign of high blood pressure.

Sara - sorry you are feeling bad. I gained 60lb with my first pregnancy and abuot 40lb with my second. I know how you feel. I have gained 10lb back so far. It feels bad after losing the weight but I know it's for a good cause and it gives me more incentive to lose again after the baby is born.

I am doing very well. I'm 16 weeks along now and feeling really good. The morning sickness left about a week ago, it held on because i have a cold that won't go away. It's really clogging up my sinuses and makes me sick. My headaches have gone away as well. My health is perfect, my blood pressure came down again, my sugars are good and everything else is good too! Last week the baby's heartbeat was 180, so I had to go in on Monday and it was back down to 140. She figures she must have woken the baby up and that was why the heartbeat went up. I'm finally feeling the quickening and I'm much relieved now. So now I don't have to go back for another month. I go for my first ultrasound on the 24th, I can't wait.

Call me crazy, but last night I can swear I felt the quickening. I kind of googled to see if I could find any answers, and one "authority" said you can feel the quickening int he first trimester with twins (I'm 10 weeks Friday) and I found a message forum where people were saying twin quickening (for them) was 9-12 weeks, with the more experienced moms feeling earlier than first timers. Anyway, it was such a cool feeling. I don't think it was a poot
