  • Just got home from a 50th wedding anniversary celebration. It was put on by their daughter and was very nice. The lunch they served was very healthy...lots of fruit, raw veggies, and small slices of steak. However there was candy everywhere and I ate far too much of it plus dh and I shared a good sized piece of cake. I left most of the frosting at least. But wouldn't be surprised if I got almost a 1000 cals in that one meal! I wish I'd skipped dessert...than I would have been fine. But you know me and my sweet tooth!
At least I had a light breakfast...just nutrisystem coffee shake and 1/2 med apple. I probably won't post my stats today, so telling you this now. Disappointed in myself right now.

Well, I have much to do. Hope you are all having a good Sat.

Karen31 - Keep Tim going to the doctor, as sounds like he has jaundice and that means something is definitely wrong. I would think if it's gall stones he would have abdominal pain, but I'm sure other things can go wrong with the gall bladder and definitely liver issues will cause the yellowing too. Hope you learn more soon. How is he feeling?
  • Yeah Mary, I know about the jaundice but he has seen his Dr twice now in the last 4 days and will be going back to the hospital on Wednesday. Guess if he is trusting his Dr. I should too. If it was me I would like for him to already go to our local hospital and not wait until Wednesday but he is a big boy and no matter how much I stomp my feet, he is going to do what he wants to anyway--- must be the Scotch in him--- and I don't mean alcohol!! LOL
  • I understand and I didn't mean you need to take him in again right away if he's seen a doctor that recent...just meant don't let him let it slide. As long as his doctor is on top of it. I'm not sure dh would have even gotten in to see his gastro doc if I hadn't persisted calling! I know how hard it was to convince dh to go to the hospital when he was bleeding. Men are often stubborn...I think they are often more afraid of health issues than women too. Dh seems like as long as he doesn't feel too terrible he thinks he's ok...he doesn't want to have to face the fact that something could be actually wrong.

  • Good Morning Everyone,

My plan is working well – got a LOT of class work done yesterday PLUS, made Irish Brown Bread, skinny cream of mushroom soup, panko “breaded” chicken, broccoli w almonds & raisins, & blueberry “cheesecake” parfaits.

Today’s plan – do more class work & make butternut squash soup & chicken with string beans, lemon & capers (found this recipe in my new lo-carb magazine).

My daughter is running a marathon today in Clearwater, FL. I am hoping that the running does not cause problems with her health issues. Keeping my fingers crossed that she will be OK.

Quote: Lynn...I have battled these knees for years. All that walking on unforgiving tile/cement hospital floors did it for sure. I got away for years with a band that gave the knee cap support, but now bone on bone is left and it is time. The pain and PT will be hard, but I'll just have to put my head down and bull thru. Possible side effect is loss of appetite...hey that sounds good.
    Hi Karen,

I keep trying to avoid surgery. If it turns out that I will need it, I need to wait until the summer when my DD will be around. Or, I need to go down to FL to have it.

Quote: Yes, I was hunkered down with the Brits... thoroughly enjoyed the "Doc Martin" series (thoroughly!) and am already waiting with bated breath for the next one. So, KarenFL, why doesn't anyone AGE??????? You posted while I was posting... so, yes, Doc Martin is older and skinnier, but no one else seems to have aged. I. Do. Not. Like. His. Mean. Old. Mother!
No discussion of "Downton Abbey"? I still am liking it; how about you all? The season premiere, as usual, was too, too, too crammed with stuff, but they're back on track now.
I'm down a solid 4# since the first of the year. Even a pound a week lost is better than a pound a week gained. I'm keeping quiet about it so as not to jinx it! Only 759.285# to go!!!
    Hi Donna,

Are you watching on TV or on discs? I have LOVED British TV series for years. I think I have watched just about every British TV series available (I get them from Netflix). One of my favorites is Clatterford. Have you seen these?
    CONGRATULATIONS on your pounds lost!

Quote: Tim hasn't been feeling so good since about Thanksgiving. He started with a head and chest cold and then never really has bounced back. But anyway, and probably has nothing to do with the cold, last week I told him his eyes looked yellow. Well of course he couldn't see it. But then he did go ahead and make an appt. with the Dr. We had to be at the VA clinic in Mt.Vernon at 8:30--it is about an hour away on Wednesday. The Dr. thought it was hepatitis but wouldn't know for sure until all the blood work got back whether it was A, B or C-- He called Thursday morning and it isn't Hepatitis so they want more blood work done and an ultrasound of his liver and pancreas. We had to be there at 7:30 yesterday morning. The ultrasound shows an obstruction, maybe an growth or a lot of gall stones, between the liver and pancreas. So now we will be headed to Fayettville on Wednesday morning for a cat scan of that. Sure hope they can find out what is going on and get him better. He has lost 10 pounds and he can't afford to lose any weight!! So that has been my week!
    Hi Karen,

So sorry to read about Tim’s health problems. Keeping my fingers crossed that the problem will be minor.

You shared the cake & avoided most of the frosting – sounds like good choices to me!
  • Good morning GG’s,

A beautiful sun shiny day here today. A slight bit chilly, but not too bad.

The last couple days were kind of lost and found days. My sister had a happy “found” situation. They had this neighbor dog that would show up at their door and bark to be let in to play with their dogs. He stopped showing up and they were worried about him. He didn’t come around for 7 months. They feared the worst, then the other day, out of the blue, there he was at their door. The owners let him stay the afternoon until my sister’s boyfriend got home from work so he could see him. He loves dogs and they love him.

I found something I had misplaced. It was nice to have the mystery solved, but my misplacing it caused us to have to spend money we wouldn’t have to have spent otherwise. Darn my memory sometimes.

Lynn ~ you have made some yummy sounding things ~ enjoy. Hope all goes well for your daughter.

Rosey ~ thank you for sharing the mug cake recipe. I can just picture you in your recliner ~ packed in puppies ~ Awwwww

K31 ~ how is Tim doing? Hope he is not in too much discomfort. Hang in there both of you ~ praying. 3.6 pounds is good ~ at least the scale is moving in the right direction.

Mary ~ you did good ~ leaving most of the frosting ~ had I been faced with that temptation, I don’t think I would have done as well as you did. Your Oregon coast trip sounded nice.

Donna ~ congratulations on the 4 pound loss. I hope the accupuncture helps your pain be less until you are able to get your surgery

K3 ~ way to go with the 15 pound loss ~ that is awesome. So glad for you that your surgery will be soon.

Bobbi ~ how is Ollie doing? I got tickled when you didn’t even last as long as your husband before letting Ollie in bed with you. You great big old softie

Cajun ~ hope you are having an enjoyable weekend at camp. Enjoy your time with your brother.

    Hi Gramie, Robin, Lizzy.

Hope you all are having a nice weekend.
  • Hola, Goldens!

Lynn - oh, yes, on "Clatterford"! I went through the entire "Hotel Babylon" series, too, "Ballykissangel" and "Monarch of the Glen". I mostly get my DVDs from the library. Oh, since you're doing Netflix, try the "Vicar of Dibley", a hoot! I've seen many of them, thanks to KarenFL's suggestions. So much more entertaining that 95.71% of the crap on television!

Gayle - yes, the acupuncture definitely helps. I'm scheduled for the next three Saturdays and then might go to every other week, depending. I'm definitely ready for AT LEAST June!

Nothing to report. I have a big pot of cabbage, potatoes, carrots, celery, onions, and polish sausage cooking. It smells WONDERFUL! Today is some silly football game that the Denver community is agog and atwitter... a playoff maybe? What... ever! I'll dutifully tune in and go "rah" and will get the score, just to say I did. Yawn!!

Everyone, enjoy the day. Hope it's as pretty there as it is here! Later, lovelies!
  • Yes I shared the cake yesterday but it was the candy that did me in. I think I must have gotten over 2000 calories yesterday. So of course my weight was up today. See, my problem is not that I have to lower my calories so much to lose...I can usually lose as long as I stay below around 1650 (usually about whatever my current weight is with an added 0)...but my problem is being consistent in my eating less than around that. Some days I just get carried away if I'm around certain foods, so I try to not be around them but sometimes that's difficult. Bobbi, I think you were the one to say I must be very active...actually I don't feel I am. I sit way too much, however I think my metabolism, even though not like when I was young, is still fairly fast. I also jog and dance around the house quite a bit, I do it purposefully to try and burn a few calories esp on days I don't go to the gym. I walk (march, side-step etc) while waiting for microwave. I practice balance at the end of the bed or at kitchen counter. When I'm feeling good I do a few squats. But these are just things that I do while watching TV or working around the house, not formal exercise and I do not do these things daily. I also still do my PT exercises for my arm and back, but they are more like simple stretches. I also try to park a ways a way from the store and take stairs and walk more. I like to get to the gym at least 3x week (should be 5x), but I've missed a lot this year.

Have you all gotten your taxes done (or have had them done) yet? Last year we had them done because they were more complicated but this year I'm back to doing them myself. I've done all I can until I get the forms I need.

Went to church this morning then lunch we picked up a foot long at Subway. All foot longs are $5 right now. We took them home to eat. I asked dh if we could skipped the cheetos and he agreed. We always share the small bag but without them my meal was fine with my diet.

Jess - So glad the acupuncture is helping you!

Hi to everyone else, have a blessed Sunday!
  • A nice day with coffee and good friends and the sun was out for awhile, and said friends plowed all the slush and snow in our yard so we can now get out easier. hope your weekend was a good one too. rosey

  • Good morning. Had a couple mishaps on my plan this weekend but I'm back at 100% today. This weekend was the last weekend to hunt deer with rifles. I'm done. Didn't get a deer this year but I had fun. Yesterday afternoon I was completely exhausted. I go and go all week at work. Pack Friday and go to camp and go and go at the camp. Never stop. After I took my bath last night I literally had no energy to move. I was in my bed at 630 and was sleeping for 7. Next weekend I'll sleep late and try to catch up.

Bobbi you asked if I would eventually live there. No way. We have no electricity there. We run on generators. It's hard camping. We have hot water that runs on butane. Our only heat is wood burning pot belly stove. Our camp is a 3 bedroom mobile home with a big metal building attached in front which is our outdoor kitchen. That's where we do our cooking and that's where the only heat is. The heat doesn't reach our bedroom. We use sleeping bag on top of our bed to stay warm. In from of the outdoor kitchen is a big patio. Next to that is our fire ring thst we sit around on. Our camp is way back in the woods. We are a few camps next to each other but are surrounded by woods. We love going but it's hard camping. We camp there from October until end of February. We have a summer camp too in another direction. It's on a river near the lake that we fish on. We camp there from April until September. Thst camp has electricity washer dryer air conditioners. It has conveniences thst we are use to at home. This camp is a 3 bedroom house. It's easy camping. In the summer when we are fishing I leave food in the freezer we have there and the ice box loaded. Oh forgot to tell you that at the winter camp with no power we keep our food in ice chest for the weekend. Bring back and forth. The winter camp is to the north if us about 55 minutes away and the summer camp is to the south of us about 40 minutes away.

Hi to all be back later.
    Hugs
    Cajun.
  • Hi Everyone,

Going to take my Surface tablet back to Staples today to see if they can help me connect to my email. Also off to Macy’s to see if I can find the bras & panties I like.

Students’ papers are due by end-of-day today, so tomorrow will be paper-grading day.

No need to cook today – have lots of stuff in my fridge.

    Have a great day,

    Lynn

Quote: Lynn ~ you have made some yummy sounding things ~ enjoy. Hope all goes well for your daughter.
    Hi Gayle,

I liked everything except the lemon/capers string beans & chicken. Green beans in lemon did not work for me.

My daughter finished the marathon (26.2 miles). I do not yet have her time, but am VERY proud of her for accomplishing this with all her thyroid problems.

Quote: Lynn - oh, yes, on "Clatterford"! I went through the entire "Hotel Babylon" series, too, "Ballykissangel" and "Monarch of the Glen". I mostly get my DVDs from the library. Hi Donna,

I will get to my Netflix history & make a list of all my favorite British TV series. Do you like mysteries?

Quote: Yes I shared the cake yesterday but it was the candy that did me in. I think I must have gotten over 2000 calories yesterday. So of course my weight was up today. Hi Mary,

It is so much easier when you live alone. My rule is that if I ever binge on a particular food, I no longer bring it into the house. Unless I want to eat cat food, all the food in my house is “non-bingeable.”

What really helps me is having JC sweet treats in my freezer. I can get through the day when I know I will have one of the JC desserts (chocolate cheesecake, red velvet cupcake, key lime pie) after supper. They are all around 150 cals & relatively lo-carb.

    Quote: hashbrown vegie casserole
    Hi Rosey,

What is in the hashbrown veggie casserole? I am on the lookout for veggie recipes.

OOOps - we must have been posting at the same time. Hi, Cajun.
  • Lynn the hashbrown vegie casserole is a version of what every one calls funerary potatoes. they are not diet friendly any ways heres the recipe

    1 bag fozen hash browns
    1 can cr chix soup
    1 c sour cream
    3 T butter Melted
    1 c shredded cheddar cheese
( I added mixed frozen vegies)

mix all together top with cheese bake till browned and bubbly
  • Started to post before going to the gym but didn't get finished so starting over. Had a good walk this morning even though the track was pretty crowded and some people do not understand track etiquette. which makes it more of a challenge I guess. The gym opened late so there were all the early people plus the usual later people and I was unable to get a bike, but after walking 18 min "briskly" (1+ mile)I used a couple weight machines and called it done. We stopped for some groceries on the way home and am now resting.

We had a nice weekend even though it was a train wreck r/t my eating. Today I am back tracking everything and hoping to do better. Silly me, I get so close to where I was and then mess it all up and have to start again..

Our son popped in to watch the game with dh last night and I even watched because he was there. I've never been that much into sports except when my own kids played but I actually enjoy ed the game. It was a nail biter all the way and we were happy, of course, to see our team (Seahawks) win.

Cajun - You are pretty strong to camp that way...we did some rough camping when I was much younger but don't think I could handle it anymore. Also we never hunted. Then we got our RV and did it the easy way...really could hardly call it camping...it was just our home away from home and we got to travel around so that was fun for a while. Anyway I admire your strength and would think you would burn lots of calories when camping that way even just trying to keep warm! But for some reason when we get to a certain age it is just so hard!

Lynn - I agree it would be easier single in that way. Think I mentioned that dh bought that yummy pecan praline fudge and rum flavored tropical fruitcake.
The fruitcake doesn't tempt too much but the fudge sure does. I decided last night I've eaten way too much of it and the rest is his, but I sure hope he finishes it off fast! I could swear it is calling my name!

Rosey - I have been thinking I should just eat the way you do...follow your menus.

Hope you're all having a good MLK day! May we all (no matter what color) be free, enjoy our freedom and stay free!!
  • I can't remember if I posted on this thread, but would love to join the Golden Girls (I will be 50 next month). I know losing a large amount of weight will be a challenge at my age - but I am up for the challenge. I hope to meet all of you during my journey.
