  • Good morning, everyone. It's been officially one week of me counting calories and I'm down three pounds. I know realistically that it won't be this way every week since the first week is usually the body adapting and water weight flushing out. I'm optimistic, though!

  • Hello all

As I stated in my last post, my scales (new ones purchased from Amazon, digital, Epica brand, supposedly highly reliable, received them one day before first weight in, four battery) are defective scales. I will try to get this reported to Amazon for a refund or properly working scales today. Stepping on, read, off let scales go off, stepping on, read, off, again, repeating above several times, weight varies as much as 6 lbs. Scales consistently reading the same amount off, no problem, can allow for that. But they are too inconsistent for use for anything.

OK, overall, I take in far less calories than needed for maintenance weight. With that said, I know I am losing weight regardless of what any scales say.

To Sun 38, Gloricat, Stay Puft and others concerned about daily scale fluctuations: As we eat, drink, perspire, urinate, defecate, and whatever we do that use calories including just being alive, our weight is in a constant state of flux Added to that is the bodies resistance to change. When a fat cell loses fat it will take in water trying to maintain that size. This may go on for some while, then start releasing the extra liquids, in what look like remarkable sudden weight losses, even though one may have eaten way over for a few days prior. Do not let these fool you. If you are taking in less calories than you burn you ARE LOSING WEIGHT regardless of what the scales tell you at any one particular time. The total deficit in calories at the end of the week divided by 3500 will give you a very close approximation of your weight loss.

Even given that, some of us have systems that are much more efficient at utilizing food, or other words more metabolic efficient. We learn over time more closely what individual bodies need for maintenance. Using that amount, whatever deficit you have over a weeks time divided by 3500 will be very close to your real loss.

I suggest each of you pay much less attention to daily weight which fluctuates so much and use the what it says over a week, and over a month. I think all of you are doing great but worrying too much over daily fluctuations.

I will get my new scales and post the weights. But I know I am losing, my calorie intake is way lower than my maintenance requirement. Not only that, but I am going down in size, I move easier, less joint pains, am more flexible, feel better overall.... ETC

Remember, our worst enemies on this weight loss is ourselves. Don't be fooled by your scales, keep on keeping the calorie intake down and you the scales will get honest in time.

Thanks for the support you have given me, and hope this helps you a bit
