There's a sister in dire need of support, anyone who is on, please post!
  • Thank you Soul for posting that. So sad.

Bettek - so glad to hear you are safe! My hometown had a "minor" flood this past year and even seeing that I can't imagine flooding on the scale that it's happening in Iowa.

Just to remind everyone, today is
    WEIGH-IN DAY!!!

If you need your weigh ins from week 4 and 5, just shoot me a PM. I'm not worried about not having them filled in on the weigh-in thread, but some people might want theirs filled in completely. No problem at all.
  • I am so proud of everyone for rallying together in support. It's a great community we have here.

Bettek, Ia m sending my positive thoughts and healing energy to your area.

Everyone, keep at it! Fight the good fight! Have a wonderful weigh in day!
  • BetteK - WOW! I just cringe when I see news video from your neck of the woods. Our prayers are with you!!

Purple - I took last week off, too! I'm taking a freebie this week and am back on plan. I really admire Dr. Oz. Keep us posted on his his plan is working for you.

Oolong - WOW!! 6 pounds!!! I'm in awe!!

Manick - I'll go check out milk thistle. Thank you for the tip! The only time I wanted wine yesterday was at that high pressure 10 or 15 minutes of getting all the food out. We ended up having 2 extra people arrive and we were short on chairs and had to bring up another table . . . trying to get everything hot and ready at the same time. You know the drill. Once everybody got their food and started eating it was no big deal. I felt really good. Nobody even noticed I wasn't drinking. lol.

Our friend, Jim, has lost 100 pounds since mid-March. He's only 53 and his only shot at survival is a liver transplant. I don't ever want to be in his shoes. He was telling us a lot of stuff his Dr. told him about Acetominophen. I knew it was bad, especially if you drink alcohol, I just didn't know quite HOW BAD.

Theresia - You cute little thing!! Not a stretch mark in sight!! LUCKY GIRL!!

I have a quilt to do and a ton of work to get done. TBL!!
  • hey everyone! Don't forget today is weigh-in day!

Last week I stayed OP and lost 1 pound. It's weird. I seem to go through cycles where I lose a bunch one week and then only lose .5-1 pounds the next week. But hey, all losses are good no matter how big or small. Next week's goal is 205...I can do it!

I'm only 6.5 pounds away from not being overweight anymore...and onederland!
  • Hey everyone...
Just popping in to say hi and check-in. Has anyone noticed that the later the weigh-in before eating, the less they weigh? During the weekend I sleep much later than during the week, so I sometimes weigh a few hours later than normal. I noticed a 1.4 lb difference between the weight I saw Sat and Sun and the weight I saw this morning and Friday morning. How can sleeping a few more hours affect the scale that much? Weird! Wish I had posted my weekend weight now!

I don't what is up with the slow losses, I am working out like a mad woman and making good food choices. I don't get it! I walk 170 mins a week on my lunches and then go to the gym 3-4 times a week and do another 40 mins cardio and sometimes weights. How can all of this exercise (about 3500 calories burned per week) be amounting to less than a lb loss per week?

Anyway, I am keeping at it, frustrated, but continuing. I hope that everyone had a great weekend! It's Monday, back to the grind! I am really going to work on fiber and water this week, maybe that will help!

Has anyone seen Anne (RealCdn)? She hasn't been around!

    Have a great day!

I think that when last she checked in, she was leaving the challenge.
  • Morning, all,

Just checking in and not feeling particularly enlightened or clever this morning. I anticipate having a spectacularly bad ten day period -- my MIL is coming and decided to stay for four days or so and I have to deal with that. Luckily, I have jury duty (didja ever think you'd hear that phrase) so I have a built in, iron clad excuse to make myself scarce. (Because I am such a dedicated employee that I will have to go in after hours to keep up with my projects.)

Made the mistake of watching one of those "before and after" plastic surgery shows with a woman who had a full body lift after losing 120 lbs. Her husband was less than supportive both before and after. Before, he said he didn't want to "be intimate" because the loose skin was all "disgusting". But even after, he was hesitant because "they needed to get to know each other as new people." And she had really good results. I'd boot him, if I were her.

Oolong -- great job on the 6 lbs!

BetteK -- hope things are well with you. We're expecting the MS to crest here this coming weekend and St Louis county has already had flooding this year so the ground's still saturated. Not sure what will happen this time. I cross the MS every morning for work and been watching full trees float down river.

purple -- I like Dr. Oz too -- he sounds very reasonable and positive about the possibilities. I'm listening to his book "You Younger" now.

    Good luck,

    Barb

I sometimes wake up early and weigh, then go back to bed a couple hours, and always weigh less when I get up again. Someone told me awhile back on these boards that you weigh less around 9AM and I have found if I wait an hour or two after getting up, I will weigh less than first thing. AND...probably TMI, but I have found if I weigh, then go potty, and go right back and weigh, sometimes it goes UP. I have to wait awhile then do it, and it'll be lower. Okay, I have no idea why this is, but now I get up, pee, wait an hour or two, then do my WI.
  • Milk Thistle--this is the article from University of Maryland Medical Center I tried to find yesterday but couldn't-this is a good overview of Milk thistle uses to protect your liver. Wow, Mugsy, I am sorry about your friend. That is very serious! Good for you for taking steps to improve your health now!

Misty I always assumed the more time I was sleeping the less water I was taking in...I am the same way if I sleep in (slightly dehydrated). And I know my muscles DO hold water to repair when I am really working out hard...if you are really sore the next day that could be what is going on when you see the scale number bump up. It's frustrating, but the overall trend is DOWN for you too, so that's what counts! And you are really taking steps to be fitter which WILL pay off in the long run!

Waiting for my SIL to bring her dog over before I go out to wog. I am dog sitting all week. Its getting late tho, so I'm getting antsy....
  • Hmm, that is very interesting Purple...will have to do some experimentation myself
  • Manick - Great article!! WOW! I've NEVER heard of milk thistle. I can't believe more people with breast cancer aren't talking about it. I'll drop by the vitamin shop and see if they have some capsules.

Bummer about Anne - I had no idea she dropped out.

Keillynsmom - I watched the Incredibly Shrinking Woman on DHC about her excess skin removal surgery and was positively FREAKED. When they showed her in the swimming pool with her excess skin billowing like a flag in the wind I was incredibly disturbed.

What I took away from that show was that a lot of skin's elasticity is, of course, genetic, but that part of it was also blood flow. I've been taking Flax Seed oil twice a day and doing salt & sugar scrubs regularly to encourage blood flow to the surface of my skin. I don't know if it will help, but it certainly can't hurt.
  • Hi all!

Sorry, I've been missing in action the last couple weeks. I've had enough of my slacking off and I'm ready to get back in the fight. I only had a 0.5 lb weight loss last week. Nothing like mediocre results to snap you out of a funk.

I didn't see it, but the mental pic I have is not good! Was there really that much??!!! I must google this!

I have to agree that this sounds quite disturbing! I think I am also going to have to find it online. OMG! I hope I don't have that problem! I guess that is the cost of abusing our bodies! Yikes!
