Trish, I think you should watch your Dad more closely on the OTC meds he buys and takes. You have to be very careful what you take when you are in prescriptions. In a way, I understand why the drug companies charge so much for their new drugs. They spend so much money on research and development, then have to go through all the testing, and then their's the government regulations. That is why they get a period of time before other companies are allowed to develop a generic version, to give them time to recoup their money. If they couldn't do that, there is no incentive for them to develop new drugs. It's possible that the government could subsidize them, but then that's our tax money. Part of the problem is that when the drug companies offer the drug free or very low cost when it first comes out, it does not apply to those of us on Medicare, and most of the time, we are the ones who need the help the most. I don't know what the answer is.
I know very well that you can do vegetarian low carb and it's supposed to work very well for diabetics. That's primarily what Dr Furman's plan is. That was also the theme of that Thrive Series I watched a couple months ago. It was very interesting. They offered the program for sale, but it was very expensive and I don't see myself giving up meat and other animal protein. Here is an article by one of the primary doctors who participated in the Thrive Series. He was one of the best speakers they had. I really liked him the best. This article is about why diabetics should eat low fat. When they say to eat carbs, they are talking about vegetable carbs, not starchy processed carbs. I think you will find this interesting.

I was able to fall back to sleep easily both times. I also drank a small amount of water each time I got up. I think I need to get myself drinking it earlier in the day. I hate to drink water and then go out somewhere because then I'm always looking for the restrooms especially if we're going a long way. I have heard that once your body get used to having the extra water the need to find the restrooms slows down.
