  • My water broke this morning at 2 :30....walking around the hospital now. 3 cm. Dilated. I'll keep everyone posted when I can. Was hoping to labor mostly at home, but my water decided to break first. I'm hardly feeling my contractions.

    YAY! C'mon baby!!!
  • See Sakai I knew you would beat me I will be thinking about you and wishing you a glorious birth. I have tears in my eyes right now and wish I could give you a big hug Will be checking for updates! Come on baby
  • Wshing you an easy and complication-free birth Sakai. Can't wait to see updates and pictures!
  • 5cm dilated now. Contractions are every 3 minutes and boy am I feeling them now. The labor was going slow so they gave me pitocin at 11.
butterflymama- yeah it's crazy, I had no sign of labor at all...I was certain I was about to wet the bed when my water broke during my nap. The only thing that told me maybe it was time was that it was pink...I thought maybe a really bad UTI...nope..lol
Thanks for all the well wishes ladies...still very nervous.
  • Thinking of you, Sakai! Good luck!

I am having breastfeeding issues and honestly, I'm pretty devastated. Lactation consultant is fairly certain it's because of my PCOS, but we're trying to get my supply up anyway. Unfortunately, it seems like everything we try to get food into the baby (like a supplemental nursing system) makes him less effective at actually nursing (which is what we want, but we can't do 100% of the time, because he was still losing weight at two weeks, and even our breastfeeding-friendly, "some weight loss is totally normal" pediatrician, who is married to a lactation consultant, was worried).

I just feel like we did EVERYTHING right (non-medicated birth, good prenatal care, skin-to-skin after birth, nursing on demand, good diet, etc) and still my supply is very, very low.
  • Yay Sakai!! I'm praying for you and baby, I hope all is going well.

Amanda - Nursing issues are so tough. I had issues with my second one and cried for a long time after I had to quit nursing him early. I'm sure that doesn't help (sorry), I was just trying to say you're not alone. Try to remember that it doesn't make you any less of a fantastic, loving, perfect mommy to Spencer if you end up being unable to nurse. I'll keep you guys in my prayers, I know how hard it can be.
  • 8-9 cm dilated. Just over 2 hours till it's been 24 hours since my water broke...
I broke down and tried the iv pain killer for 4 hours. It worked nice butthey kept upping the pitocin. And the pain was too much. I was so tired and the nurses were surprised I lasted so long with pitocin.
So I got the epidural about 9pm. Cried and nearly changed my mind when they were about to give it to me but cf and the nurses were great.

Had to stop pitocion a hour later and put me on oxygen because baby was having a hard time.
midnight they started it back up for that last cm...it's gonna be soon now.
  • Sakai you are doing great! Thinking of you.
  • I've bet you're done now Sakai - Congrats. Praying for you sweetie.
  • My patience level drops dramatically when I get to 37 weeks. :-/ I realize I will likely be pregnant for another 3 weeks (I'm almost 38), but I don't wanna be. I'm in excruciating pain and I'm done. /pity party
  • Gale - hang in there! Maybe you'll be early!

Today I am more hopeful that we can get my milk supply up to a reasonable level. I'm giving him about 2/3 of what he needs right now, which is a workable number. Trying to be positive, in any case (but boy, the feeding schedule right now is killing me. Pump every 2 hours, feed the baby when he's hungry, first just standard nursing on both sides, then nursing with a supplemental nursing system on the particularly lame side, then pump)...it's a little extreme, but it'll be worth it if it works.
  • That is great Amanda! Your doing awesome. I am sure you already are but be topless and resting in bed eating oatmeal muffins and drinking tons of water. Also not sure if you have started fenugreek. I have a friend who really struggled with establishing nursing and hand to use the supplemental nurser and do cup feeding etc however she and baby eventually worked it out and she was exclusively nursing and even went on to nurse her daughter till over 2. She had similar struggles with her second but went into action mode sooner. She also found the Le Leche League really helpful (This is were I met her) Also see if your library has the womanly art of breastfeeding.

Sending you lots of milk vibes and nicely established nursing vibes for you and Spencer.
  • We are currently doing a blend of fenugreek, blessed thistle, marshmallow root, and fennel, goats rue capsules (apparently very useful in people with PCOS), and will be starting domperidone on Monday. Also, yes, tons of skin to skin, oatmeal for breakfast, and lots of water. Because of the PCOS we are being pretty aggressive. I'm hopeful we can reduce the supplements over time. Giving him formula to supplement BROKE MY HEART, but he's already so much more content and has regained some of the lost weight, so it was the right solution at the time. Get the supply up, and we won't need it anymore.
  • Finally got a new car since mine died in February- Chrysler 300 Limited Edition. Nice chunk of change and payments but so worth it.

DF is now talking about moving out of state because he has lots and lots of family drama yet AGAIN! I'm tired of it too. Blah! But we just signed a new lease at our house and changing schools would be a pain and more expensive for out of state tuition. I have no clue, maybe just move cities.

Baby is doing great. He's been crabby last night and today so I haven't slept much and really need to clean, but he really just wants all the attention. Hopefully he sleeps tonight.

Manda- Sounds like you are doing great trying to establish feeding. I think having problems is pretty common. Lactation was a great help. Switching to formula was a smack in my face too. I felt like I can't do my "job" as a woman by feeding my child. Keep trying though and hopfully you get it!

Sakai- I'm sure there's a baby by now. Can't wait to hear the stats, name and see a picture.

Mindi- How are you doing with BFing? How's the adjustment at home?

Gale and Sprkle- Your time is coming soon!!
