BFers losing weight - August
This seems to be a pretty popular thread, so I thought I'd start one monthly.
I'm back up to the top range of the 5 lbs I've been bouncing around in for the last few months. If I'm honest though, I'm not trying all that hard. Onward and downward! :) Gale |
Hey Gale, thanks for the monthly thread!
I'm doing okay - I had a goal for August 1st to be down to 199, but weighed in at 201.8 this morning. Monday is my regular weigh in day so hopefully I'll be down to 201 by then. I decided to add a fitness challenge to my goals. 600 minutes in August. That would be 30 minutes / 20 days out of the month. :) I think I can, I think I can! :cp: I'm really trying hard to stick to my calorie budget and get some activity in every day. My daycare re-opens Monday (after my maternity leave) so I am afraid I will just have to bite the bullet and get up early to exercise. Yuck!!! I HATE EARLY MORNINGS! Our evenings are taken by home schooling and there are to many little ones for me to take out on the trail during the day. How's everyone else starting the month? Any goals?? |
This thread is great! It's nice to have support from chicks that are facing the same obstacles.
I've been bouncing around the same 5 pounds for a few weeks too. I fell off the wagon last night a bit at dinner, but it was a special occasion, so I'm trying to not beat myself up about it. This month I shooting for 1500-1600 cals a day and at LEAST 20 minutes of activity every day. I'm hoping to be down around 160-164 by my birthday (Sept 2) Wish me luck! |
Oh yeah! I like this thread too...thanks!!
My goal for Aug is to exercise 6 to 7 days a week--running 5 days a week and walking the other days. I also want to stay within my calorie range every day. My b'day is in early Sept (the 3rd--right by you Kyla!) so I'll take that day off. hehe I have visitors coming in Nov for Thanksgiving, so I am HIGHLY motivated to get a significant bit of weight off by then. Sixteen weeks I think... |
I would like to be down 20lbs by Caleb's first bday (the week before thanksgiving.) I know it's not an unreasonable goal, I just gotta get off my kiester and do it!
I'm starting to realize that I have a very real addiction to sugar. I start craving it when I wake up and it goes through the day. Sometimes it's strong enough to give me a headache. That can't be good. Today - day 1 of no sugar (except for natural sugars and the small amount in condiments and the like). I'll let you know how it goes! :) |
Good luck! I just went to the grocery store. Stood in the deli holding a single serving piece of double layer fudge and choc cake. Held it, put it down, held it, put it down. I think I did that about 3 or 4 times. I told myself if i had to have choc I could have a 200 calorie Heath bar (at least I could count it).
BUT...I left the store without any chocolate. Victory! I'm starving right now though...and nothing is tasting good. I love apples but couldn't make it through half of one at lunch. It just tasted...like nothing...no apple taste... I finally threw it away. Weird. Had some milk for breakfast and it tasted gross too...threw that away. My husband said it was NOT bad...and it didn't smell or look bad. I think that means my hormones are changing...maybe I'll get my first post partum period soon or something. Who knows. |
Well, yesterday wasn't completely sugar free, but I did MUCH better. I did resist the molten chocolate cake from Chili's that came with my meal. It's sitting comfortably in the fridge awaiting DH. :D

Hi ladies! Just wanted to pop in and say that I'm chugging along... I have my good days and my bad. I lost another 3 pounds this week and was able to wear a size down in shorts yesterday.. they weren't as comfy as I would have liked, I can't handle my waiste being in tight clothes, so I know I only have a bit to go till they fit good.
Morton, I don't have any real goals... or I didn't, I like your 600minutes of exercise, so I will steal it. I also have to make sure I'm drinking more water... I have misplaced my 32oz cup and without it I don't drink like I should so I have to force myself till I figure out where the kids have hid it from me. I'm so jealous of those of you who can go out your door and go for a walk. We live in the middle of nowhere on top of a mountain. Our driveway is a steep hill itself, about 1/4 mile long and then out on the road the cars fly way too fast for my comfort with 4 kids on a road full of sharp bends and no were to walk that isn't on the road itself. I wouldn't trade living out here for the world though. |
I'm so proud of myself! I haven't had any sweets (high calorie ones anyways) in 3 days! That's a big feat for me, so I'm excited! I've also been getting out every day, with DH+kids or just me and the boys. I've found lots of new hills in my neighborhood that really get my heart pumping, I can't wait to start seeing the scale move! I'm offically at the low end of my 175-170. 160's here I come!
|
Woo hooo! Sounds like all you ladies are doing great!
I lost a pound today too! I need to update my ticker. hee hee GO GO GO GOG GOGOOGOGOGOGOGO! |
Ive lost 6lb! :D yay! 10lb overall. last week was the first week i stayed in plan all week, im counting calories on a mainly wholefood diet and i think im finally over the "funky" feeling. got more energy and im starting to see muscles emerging :carrot: happy, happy, happy, happy! and i fit into my small jeans for first time since i bought them :D
|
Hey guys! This whole end of the week is getting me down. I know it shouldn't, because I'm still losing and still doing good with my eating. It's hard to get out some days, it's just so hot! And with a baby strapped to you and one in the stroller it's even hotter! lol But I'm going, right now. I think I have decided on my rest days to be Tuesdays and Saturdays. I think this Saturday I will treat myself to a glass of wine or two to celebrate my week of good behavior!
|
Hey ladies! I've been stuck on the same 4 lbs up down, up down, for the last month or so. I've been 100% on plan and doing the 30 day shred too.... I'm still nursing Autumn during the night so I suspect my body wants this last 30 lbs for some insane reason. I remember this happening with my son as well. As soon as he was weaned completely I dropped like 15 lbs in 3 weeks. I don't know how much longer Autumn will want to nurse but I'm hoping I can break this plateau in spite of it!
|
ValRock, how old is Autumn, just out of curiosity?
:) Gale |
I am new to this, but this seems like a great group. I have a two month old, my second child. I have never been thin, but for some reason I had grand plans of getting in shape once my son was born and before I returned to work. Unfortunately I am finding it hard to get motivated. Seems as though you are all so positive. I hope to learn!

Welcome Mom of 2!
|
Welcome!!! I've been doing horribly this week, but I'm still going in the right direction. I'm so glad to have found this little group too.
|
Hi ladies and welcome mom of 2!
Well, I'm not doing good on the exercise front.. I knocked my hip out on Friday and now that it's back in it's still very sore... and I'm afraid of knocking it out again :( I had set a goal for myself to exercise 30 minutes every day this week.. so far it's not happening! I did walk quite a bit on Saturday (in excruciating pain) at a car show, so I guess that counts. I found my lost water cup, and got myself a notebook for tracking my calories on. I would love to find a weight chart that I can print.. kind of like the graph on fitday of start to finish weight, guess I can just print out some graph paper and make my own to put in it. Fitday just isn't working for me. I have stayed on track by just knowing how many calories I can have at a certain time (400 for breakfast, 150 for a snack, 400 for lunch etc) and not going over those limits, but I think I should be keeping some kind of journal. Oh.. and I lost another 3 pounds last week!! |
I think I'll hop in on this thread :)
Lost all my preg weight in 3 days after having ds, and was down to 230 after 10. I was thinking, cool, 20 lbs in 10 days, BFing is awesome! But I've been bouncing between 228 and 232 since then. I don't have my eating habits quite tweaked how I want them yet, but I'm getting there. Bought tons of fruits and veggies last store trip, no junk snacks. Really need to cut the pop out again. As for exercise, I know I need to, walks are easy enough, but with him sleeping only 4 hour stretches at night, and then a 2 hour stretch after that, I have to have a nap during the day. AND get some basic housework done lol. He's only 7 weeks, so maybe after a while I can get a system going. Any tips? |
Ohhh Julie! Only 7 weeks old--that's great you are motivated to do anything! hehe
I'd say just stick to walking. I lost 80lbs just by walking and dieting. Nothing strenuous...just walking w/ some old man who was lonely (so I wasn't going fast). I tried walking w/ the baby when she was tiny but she could only stand about 20 mins in the stroller. Better than nothing at the time, but I was eating like a dang horse. Good luck to you! Findingfawn--Congrats on your 3 lbs! |
Ahhh Julie.. I already miss those early weeks! Our little guy will be 3 months tomarrow... where does the time go. As far as the soda, we have switched to diet here. I hate the taste of it, but after 3 weeks I'm getting used to it.
Does anyone else weight both in the morning and at night? I'm a bit scale obsessed and hop on several times a day.. well I have noticed I weigh less at night. I know I make more milk than a dairy cow and Cameron sleeps for 10 or more hours at night... I must have lots of milk weight in the mornings.. I know they feel heavy but I was 2 pounds lower last night than I was this morning... I hold 2 pounds of milk???? No way..lol. |
Hey guys! My first official week of dieting and exercise is come and gone and I think I'll be stickin to it this time! I've lost about 7lbs in the last 2 weeks!
Julie - I have an almost 6 week old and a 2 year old and it IS hard to get out walking every day with the both of them! Sommer - I'm a bit scale obsessed myself. But your weight fluctuates throughout the day, as much as 5lb! So I usually just weigh myself in the morning after I've fed the baby and before I eat anything. |
Way to go Kayla!
I hop on the scale for my official weight of the day (yes I HAVE to do this daily, it keeps me on track! I never beat myself up over what it says, but know that it will be facing me the next day if I screw up) as soon as I get up. I am up before the baby, hubby's alarm gets us up at 5:30, Cameron usually wakes up about 6 or 6:30. So I get up, pee, hop on the scale, pack hubby's lunch, make him breakfast then I usually have to head back to the bedroom for the little guy. I only record my Monday weigh in. I sometimes hop on the scale throughout the day.. esp if I'm feeling overly fat at that moment... I will hop on mostly to reassure myself I'm still down. |
I've found that if I'm not weighing everyday, then I'm not doing well on my diet. Weighing everyday keeps me on track. If I start to backslide, then I have noticed I "forget" to weigh (bury my head in the sand, in other words).
Weighing keeps me accountable. |
Glad I'm not the only one stepping on the scale so frequently!
|
Count me among the daily weighers (sometimes 2 times per day). I will qualify that and say that if I've gotten less than 7 hours of sleep I won't get on the scale. I will get up after 6 hours of sleep and weigh myself, then go back to sleep for 2 or 3 more hours and literally weigh 2-3 lbs less than I did the first time. Every single time. So, I don't weigh on less than 7 hours of sleep. :)
|
I just wanted to post quickly (baby in hand) I used to post 4 years ago I had lost weight before baby 1 now i have just had baby 2 and am trying to get back into it again. ds1 nursed until 2 1/2 yr this one is 4 months. I had no success losing after the first. Nursing makes me so hungry. I am excited to see a group of women in a simular situation

I don't weigh on those days when I feel "heavy". That's a great observation you made--and I totally believe that it's true. |
Welcome Tara.
Little guy is fussing so I'm just checking in quickly for now. I had a "calorie free" day on Saturday. There was a family birthday party and I was determined to eat some cake (I LOVE cake!), I went a bit crazy and took a corner that had a TON of yummy icing flowers.. but because they were 0 calorie flowers I felt no guilt ;) I did do good with all the picnic foods, just a tiny bit of each thing.. and really my piece of cake was small. I lost a pound or two this week, our scale is doing crazy things.. it's a cheap dial one.. so I'm not sure where I am really, one time I get on I'm the same as last week, I get on a second later I lost 1 pound I get on a second after that and I lost 2 or 3... it's annoying, so I'm counting 1 pound. |
Happy Monday everyone!
This weekend I was BAD!!! lol, I kinda let myself go, normally I wouldn't fret about eating fairly freely on Sat and Sun, but I really let myself go and am a little ashamed! Thankfully, I didn't gain any back. But it's back on the saddle again for me! I think my two problems are not being honest with myself, I'll grab a small handful of animal crackers or something, but won't count it because it's just a small handful. But I think that's a problem that will start adding up, so from now on I'm counting everything that goes past these lips! My second problem is nighttime snacking, I always seem to get the munchies after the kids are in bed, so no more of that snacking for me! Day 1, let's see how it goes. |
I learned something very important about myself this weekend: I can't have potato chips in the house. Ever. I can't just eat a single serving, I eat half the bag if I start at all.
Good to know. |
Gale, I'm the same way! I am trying hard to learn self control but it's hard! I have started using my postal scale to weigh my snacks or I count them out to get a serving, put that in a bowl and put the main source away.. hidden and away. It's still hard to stop, but at least I have to think twice before I go for more.

Hey ladies!
I haven't logged or posted in ages so I'll do a quick re-intro. I'm Kim, mom to three super kiddos, DS who is just about 9 years, DD1 who is just about 4 years, and DD2 who will be a month old tomorrow. Last year I had some fantastic success with increasing my fitness and I lost 35 lbs and ran my second half marathon...and then I decided to have another baby. :D I'm slowly getting out of the haze of the newborn days and starting to feel more like my old self. I've been out walking here and there and I'm ready to start being more consistent with my fitness and exercise with the goal of getting back into running in the spring. My original goal was to start this fall, but my pelvis just isn't going to be ready for that kind of impact for a few more months. I'm going to do my first postpartum weigh-in when DD2 is 6 weeks old, so I've got 12 days til I face the music and make a new ticker! |
Welcome Kim!
I'm still chugging along, acording to the scale yesterday and today I'm down 15 pounds from my start, my officail weigh in is on Mondays... can't wait to see where I am then. |
Kim,
Are you tandem nursing? I know that you were talking about it at one point and I was just wondering how it's going if you are. |
No, I'm (fortunately) only nursing one kiddo. DD1 stopped nursing somewhere in my second trimester, partly because my supply pretty much disappeared and partly because it became too painful for me. She told me throughout my pregnancy that she'd start nursing again once the baby was born and my milk came back, but the one time she tried nursing when DD2 was a week old or so, she let go a big "Yuck!" when she realized she no longer likes the taste of breastmilk!
I would have been open to tandem nursing if she'd still shown a strong need for it, but in the months that she hasn't been nursing we've developed new ways of being close and I'm happy for that. DD2 is one of those all-day nursers where she "snacks" frequently throughout the day and night and I feel touched-out quite often so I'm glad to have my body to myself a bit more than I would if I were nursing two. |
I've got a cousin who has a "snacker", it seems like her son nurses all the time. By the time DS was 3 months old he was down to 5 times per day and now at 9 months old he's down to 3. He's always been a really fast nurser which I'm grateful for. I LOVE having him close and nursing him, but because of the... ahem... abundance of my chest I can't nurse and do other things. It requires both hands so that the poor kid doesn't suffocate. Because of that alone I am really glad he doesn't nurse constantly. :)
I'm so happy for you that you're discovering new ways of being close to DD1, I think it's awesome. I look forward to doing that with my DS. |

Tomarrow is weigh in day, and I've been doing good... so should be a good one!:carrot: |
Hi all!! I don't post much but this conversation on being well-endowed is cracking me up! Luckily I am able to do other things while nursing-- like slowly typing this, for example. But I saw some pictures of myself from a wedding and I look like boobs with a head. I feel your pain, finding fawn, in terms of a good bra. I wore my most supportive one and it looks like the girls are at my navel. Sooooo frustrating! :(
|
Hey guys! I've been doing pretty awful the last three days. I really need a new pair of tennis shoes so until then my walking is on hold! :( But my Jillian Michaels DVD should be here sometime this week, hopefully.
