March/April preggos
Hi ladies,
I thought I'd start a thread for the next couple of months. It seems to make the time pass. I'm starting my 3rd trimester, 26 weeks on Saturday, and boy do I feel lousy. I want this baby to cook every second he needs to, but I am so looking forward to early June. Everything hurts. I am exhausted and extremely irritable too. If one more person tells me this is training for the first few weeks, I'm going to go bananas on them. This is my second time around, and I thought it was garbage then and I KNOW it is garbage now. I know lots of people have pregnancy easier, but I'd rather have the zombied out postpartum stage than the third trimester any day. Fortunately, I don't have to choose--I get both!! Ah-ha-ha-ha-ha!! Oh, yeah, I'm crazy too. I'm gaining weight like crazy. For those who don't know me, I lost over 110 pounds and kept it off for more than 5 years (well, aside from my first pregnancy), and I know almost every trick in the book for managing my eating and my weight. Nothing is working. I'm 30 lbs up already. I'm hoping (and working) to keep it to another 15 since it should slow down a bit this last trimester. It doesn't help that I have a history of preterm labor, so I'm restricted to gentle exercise only, which doesn't include walks where I can't sit down if contractions start. Looking forward to it getting about 10 degrees warmer so I can get into the pool. Who's still around or new? How are you all doing? Anne |
Hey - I'll chime in here. Just newly pregnant and dealing mainly with the fatigue!
|
:):)
I'm 28 weeks, due May 29. This is my first child, a boy. I have had the easiest pregnancy and have gained 18 lbs. Just got tested for diabites last week and I don't have it but they did see my iron was low. Well hopefully your pregnancy doesen't get any worst. |
Lifeguard, the fatigue is ROUGH in the first trimester, but trust me, it will get better. I was so tired I fell asleep on the couch every night about 6pm. Now I can make it until 9 or 10! Woohoo! I'm still tired, of course, but nothing like that first trimester.
Anne, I've gained about 23 pounds so far and I'm 7 weeks behind you!! I expect I'll gain plenty more. I know I need to get it under control, but I really can't seem to. Ugh! I'm seeing my doctor Thursday, so I'll get to hear the heartbeat and all that good stuff. I have lots of questions for her, but I need to write them all down so I won't forget. I just can't wait for the big ultrasound on March 19, so I can find out the sex! I bought a couple of things for the baby's room the other day. Just little things, but it felt good to actually start preparing. |
I
|
Okay - so the nausea is officially settling in. Ugh!
But I just had some come to my door (very strange for us) & he was delivering a HUGE basket of flowers. DH's boss sent us it to congratulate us on the pregnancy! So sweet & so unexpected! |
Hi everyone. I am 14 weeks pregnant and feel like he!!. I was at about the same weight I am now before I got pregnant but all of a sudden it is really affecting me a lot more. I am getting out of breath climbing stairs and the fatigue is unbelievable. I was overweight with my first child as well, right now I weigh as much as I did when I delivered him! Yikes! I've got to start exercising seriously (but starting slowly) otherewise I am going to be bedridden by week 40.
|
I know what you know about the fatigue - it's killing me & my desire to keep up my gym routine. I was doing so well with my exercise before & now I find my motivation is totally flat. I know I need to keep it up for the overall outcome & my weightloss after birth but right now it seems so far away!
In 2 days my dh & I go to the doc & we are supposed to hear the heartbeat for the first time. |
That is kind of how I am feeling right now, like if I don't start doing more exercise etc now I am not going to be able to cope after I deliver. I had an injury at work in mid December and since then I haven't done much of anything, at least working kept me more active now I feel like my muscle tone is non existant. I am doing physiotherapy for my injury and I am extremely shocked by how little weight I am able to do. I don't know why I am shocked seeing as I haven't done any real exercise in forever. Too a lot of it has to do with this never ending winter and snow and cold. I kind of think spring starts I'll be better emotionally and feel like exercising or at least getting outside for a walk once in awhile!
You are so going to love hearing the heart beat, that is about the best thing in the whole world! |
Today we saw the baby (which still looks like a little blobby bean) & heard the heartbeat!!! 125 beats per minute. So cool & makes everything seem so much more real.
|
That is how I felt too when I had my first ultrasound. I didn't hear the heartbeat but I could see the heart beating.
|
Hi Lifeguard, congrats on the scan. I love hearing/seeing the heart beat.
Jen, here's hoping you get some good 2nd tri energy any day. Looks like you're about due for it from your ticker. Brook, you are nursing and pregnant. Wow! Crystal, I envy you your easy pregnancy! Hi Lisa. I'm going to try to get your email out tonight. Well, at the very least I always have interesting pregnancies. Interesting not being a good thing, actually. Anyway, I ended up in L&D at not quite 27 weeks because I was having a really scary number of BH contractions, and having had preterm labor with DD, you just can't be too careful. Everything checks out OK, but it was pretty frightening--some of the contractions were double-me-over kind of strong. Fortunately, they got themselves settled and my cervix is still closed, so it looks like we're golden for a bit longer. DD got to term, and I'm hoping for a repeat performance here. Anyway, there's been a real change in my fatigue levels since the weekend, and I've been trying to rest every bit I can, since that helps keep the contractions away. Then of course, I got a migraine today, almost certainly as a rebound after all the stress of the last few days. Pregnancy is not kind to me, my OB very gently told me today. Anyway, I still consider myself pretty lucky, as the baby seems very healthy, staying put for now, and I have a good support system. I did take my work week down to 20hrs from 25 though, to get some more rest. Here's hoping you all get it WAY easier than me! Anne |
Wow, Anne, you were pretty busy there! Glad to hear that the baby is still hanging in there. That would be nerve wracking to say the least. No wonder you got a migraine! What do you take for yours? My doctor gave me a prescription for Tylenol#2 because I can't take my normal medication and regular Tylenol barely touches a migraine. The #2s don't get rid of it but at least they take the edge off a bit. This is my second pregnancy and it has been so different from my first one. I'm not one of these women that enjoys being pregnant. I love the end result but not the process. From your lips to Gods ears on the energy thing! I think as soon as spring gets here that will perk up my mood a lot.
|
I have become more tired lately and am always hungry. I am going to get a 4d ultrasound on Sat, can't wait. I will be 30 weeks at that time. I went to my ultrasound visit the other day and the aminotic fluid was a little low so I have to drink lots of water. I am aslo now taking iron pill along with my blood pressure med, so I guess I have had some minor problems as well. Not one person that I dont' know has asked me when im due or what im having. I wish people could tell that im pregnant without me having to wear a shirt saying it. Anne, Im glad they were able to get everything under controll for you.
|
Crystal I have that worry - that no one will be able to tell I'm pregnant until the day before I'm due!
|
Well okay here is my thing, I gained a lot of weight just before I got pregnant so when I told my boss she said 'oh I wondered why you had gained so much weight?' and then someone this morning said to me that I had gotten really big, she thought I was a lot further a long than I am and actually I've barely gained anything since I got pregnant. I had someone ask when was I due a couple of weeks ago, this is someone I've been acquainted with for awhile so it's not like she didn't know I was overweight. I was shocked that she could see that I was pregnant, she said that I had a bit of a different shape!
Anyway my thing these past couple of days is that my legs are so itchy! I've been scratching like mad (I know I shouldn't) and I think they are actually swollen a bit. I don't know if they are itchy because they are swollen or swollen because they are itchy and I've been scratching at them. I had a good soak in the bathtub and gave them a good loofah and put on tons of cream afterwards so I hope that did the trick. |
Jen, I'm itchy all the time too! Especially my breasts, stomach, and back.
I forgot to report back here after my big 20-week ultrasound. We found out we're having a boy! It wasn't a big surprise, because I've had that feeling all along and nearly everyone guessed boy for some reason. Woohoo! I would've been thrilled either way, but I'm happy to finally know which pronoun to use when I refer to the baby! |
Congrats on your baby boy to be born! What names do you have picked out? We have girls names but we are stuck on the boy name. I have a page of names that I am waiting for my husband to go through. He read through them quickly, I have the feeling he doesn't like any of them. I think picking out a name will probably take the next 24 weeks or so!
My itchiness is better. The bath and cream helped and I have been putting more cream on. I have a prescription cream for my eczema that I have been using as well. My legs don't feel nearly as swollen (not that they were, they just felt like it!). I'm still a bit frustrated about my weight and not getting my rear in gear and starting to exercise. Heaven only knows what I am waiting for! I don't much feel like riding my exercise bike, I'd rather start with some walks but it is still too cold. We went out for a bit of a walk today, I need new boots because the one heel is worn and I think I was walking funny because my hip started hurting. Otherwise feeling good. The odd bit of queasiness and heartburn but other than that it has been smooth sailing! |
Hi, ladies! I'm more of a lurker than a poster. I'm having a rough morning...totally needing some peace and quiet and not getting it! My three boys are running around like jackrabbits, DH is trying to sleep today from night shift last night and my roof's getting repaired!! All the kids are cranky and whinny from being couped up in the house! I had planned to take them out to the library and various outings today but DH wants me home in case the roofers come to the door and need something.
Anyone had any weird cravings??? Each pregnacy I've had some crazy ones. The latest is cranberry-apple juice last week and zesty crab dip (cream cheese, cocktail sauce, and some lump crab) this week. Other than this new craving nothing sounds good. I make myself eat and the food just sits in my stomach long into the night. I am so bloated that my stomach doesn't even look like my stomach and I am definately not showing a bump yet, either! Yikes. I have also noticed that my prenatals don't have a stool softener...that maybe part of my problem, too! So, may have to add that in to my daily regimen. I pulled out my next size up "fat pants" to help cope with the horrible transitional stage of reg size pants not fitting and not ready to be uncomfortable in maternity clothes not fitting well yet. I tried Motherhood's Tummy Sleeve $17 (a cheaper variation of the Bellaband)and love it. I can still wear my illfitting pants unbuttoned with the tummy sleeve over it as long as I have a decent size shirt. Most of my ls tshirts do the trick anyway! This is the first time I am pretty determined not to pull out the maternitys as long as I can! So far so good...I have a feeling the bump is on the horizon, though! HOw early did you guys start showing??? |
I don't think I look any different than usual but someone at work asked me a few weeks ago when I was due so I guess I am showing something.
No unusual cravings for me yet! Had my doctor's appt today, nothing exciting going on. I've started to have a bit of sciatic pain, I hope it doesn't get any worse. |
I had someone dh works with rub my belly at dinner last night - twice!!! I'm not showing (& won't be for some time with my gut). I felt so uncomfortable with her rubbing my fat - lol!
Friends are in town this week & I'm soooo tired after just one day of tourism stuff - I can't wait for this trimester to be over!!! |
I'm pregnant! I just got my blood work back on Wednesday and I'm 2 weeks along. Whew... I've got a LONG time to wait before baby gets here! This is my and DH's first, I'm really excited!
I've loved reading this forum for the past couple of months, and now I feel like I can join in. Obviously, there's not much going on yet, just lots of tiredness. I'm going to have my first OB appointment next week. It's a little early, but they found something wonky with my thyroid in my blood work and want to get it taken care of asap. :D:D:D We're gonna have a baby! :D:D:D |
CONGRATULATIONS!!! Gale! I am sure you are super excited! Keep checking in here in between naps! Seriously! Sleep and eat as much as you can to keep your energy up! :)
|
Congratulations, Gale!!! Get LOTS of sleep now! The first trimester is when you're really really tired, and take advantage of the fact that your stomach isn't pooching out and making you uncomfortable yet. It's tough for me to sleep now because of my back and hip pain, but in the beginning I slept really well! I'm so excited for you -- you've got lots of cool stuff to look forward to! I know you hear lots of horror stories about the pains and trials of pregnancy, but there are so many great things too. Feeling the baby move the first time, seeing him/her on an ultrasound, finding out the sex (if you choose to do that), registering for baby gifts, setting up his/her room, sharing the news with friends and family -- so much fun!
Speaking of cool things about pregnancy, I felt the baby kick for the first time on Easter Sunday. I'd felt him move LOTS already, but it was just vibrations and flutters. Now he kicks me all the time! He's especially active around 3:00am, which probably doesn't bode well for my future... |
Lifeguard - ooh gross! I don't think I ever had anyone touch my belly when I was pregnant the first time, at least not someone who is next to a total stranger!
Gale02 - congratulations! It is the adventure of a life time you are embarking on, that's for sure! LisaMarie - I've started to have a lot of sciatic pain and some back pain. When I wake up in the middle of the night sometimes it is a huge effort just to change positions. I can't be on my back unless I am practically propped up in a sitting position with pillows. I haven't had much in the way of baby movement, like you were saying the flutters and vibrations, I'm looking forward to some good movements soon! Not much new with me pregnancy wise. I'm glad that spring seems to be getting here at last. Some of the snow is melting and the days are getting longer. I think I have definately had the blues because of the weather. I heard in the news that last year we had about 6 weeks of really wintery weather and this year it has been honestly more than 5 months and more snow than we've seen in over a decade. No wonder people get depressed! I'll be happy to get outside and play with my little boy when the weather is warmer. |
Gale - Congratulations! My dh & I keep saying to each other "We're going to have a baby!" It soooo incredulous for us still 'cause it took so long for it to happen.
Oh - I hope I am spared the back pain - I hope you find some comfort soon for that. My father gets sciatica & just seeing him with it has me convinced I don't want it! Hormones are playing games with me. I'm stilll SOOOO tired all the time but the last couple days I've been so moody - cranky one minute - crying the next. Ugh! |
Gale, congrats!
Jen, I had a lot of itchiness as a 2nd trimester thing in both my pregnancies. Hi Lifeguard, I hope your fatigue passes soon. almsthere, I can't stop eating bananas and cow's milk. Banana's I love, but I'm not generally a milk drinker, so who knows. I'm on the verge of 30 weeks now. I'm trying to be positive, but I just feel awful most of the time. I quit trying to manage my weight gain, and am letting my body do what it likes. I actually gained less this month than last on that plan. Happy April everyone! Anne |
I went to the gym today but I had to go through my routine so slowly to keep from throwing up. I thought I had lucked out with the vomitting but it started last week & now I am finding myself reluctant to eat 'cause that seems to 'cause it. ICK!
|
Okay a new symptom appeared yesterday. I am fine when I am sitting doing nothing or just moving around the house but when I am outside and doing a little purposeful walking I start getting something like a cramp along the top of my abdomen and it is a bit hard to take a deep breath. Not short of breath exactly but I think if I tried to do anything faster than a slow walk I would probably not be able to do it and still be able to breathe. Just what I need!
|
Yesterday I went to my first yoga class. I am going to try to go Tuesdays & Thursdays from now until delivery. I'm really hoping it'll give me the strong core & open hips I need to have a nice, natural delivery - we'll see. OMG - I did not expect how hard it would be. I can definitely see how it will help with labour & delivery but did I ever sweat!!! And today I have muscles hurting I didn't think you could work - lol.
|
Hello all. I am 33 weeks now. They have me getting nst twice a week till I deliver because of high blood pressure. Two nights ago I could not sleep becaue I was so thirsty. Every five minutes I had to get up and take a sip of my water. I don't have diabetes, been tested twice. Guess it just happens. I am due next month and not one stranger has noticed I was pregnant and asked when im due. Even when I am shopping for baby stuff!
|
Hi Crystal, what is nst? I don't know how many strangers I would ask when they are due if I didn't know for sure if they were pregnant, after all you could be shopping for a baby shower gift or a relative or something like that.
Argh I have gained 10 lbs since I got pregnant, I suppose that is not too bad considering I am 19 weeks but I still have 21 weeks to go and I didn't even want to gain that much (I'm at 263 lbs so I have enough fat for me and about 10 babies!). My doctor and I discussed it and she didn't think I would gain much anyway, 5 lbs or 10 at the max was what I was shooting for. I know I am eating way too much, this past week was bad because I had a week off work so I tend to eat more then. On the plus side I have been getting outside more and being a bit more active so I am hoping that will help me stay where I am. I will probably lose a bit if I start watching what I am eating a bit more. :( |
Jen a nst is a non stress test, they hook your belly up to a monitor to listen to the babys heart beat. The beat should increse when the baby moves. It is how they know that your placenta is doing its job and the baby is ok. You only get them if you are high risk, I am cuz of my blood pressure. I ask people when they are due, guess everyone is different. Actaully, someone did ask me two days ago, threw me off guard. Drink lots of water and rest, thats what I have been advised.
|
Thanks Crystal for letting me know that. Is there any other reasont that they might send someone for that or is it just the high blood pressure. Why I ask is that I was back at work yesterday and I had some episodes of what I would call shortness of breath. I'd do something and then I'd have to stop and sit for a few minutes to rest and then I could go on. My blood pressure has not been high but I called into my doctor's office anyway just to let them know. I wonder if they might send me for something like that.
|
Jen, shortness of breath is normal. Diabetes is another reason why they do the test. My friend had them done b/c here baby was small.
|
Hello, all,
I am 13 weeks as of today:) Fortunately, I had no morning sickness, but did have unbelievable fatigue up until 1 1/2 weeks ago. Right now I am feeling great and will be able to start exercising again this weekend. (I had a CVS done last Friday ('cause I'm old:p) and was told no exercise for a full week:mad:)) I am trying to eat in a healthier fashion and keep active. I look forward to chatting with you all. |
Does anyone know of a good breast pump besides medula?
|
Congrats Fishwoman - I'm at 12 now & can't wait for this trimester to be through - I'm so sick of feeling nauseated & exhausted all the time!
|
Hello, I'm 29 weeks and sort of new here. Nice to meet everyone! Congratulations to the people that have just found out they are pregnant, how exciting! I've had nothing but trouble with this pregnancy but I'm getting towards the end so I'm starting to get a little more excited. I sewed some diaper covers the other day and I'm waiting for my new snap press to arrive!! I haven't gained any extra weight this time (lost a lot in the first trimester due to hyperemesis) and now I seem to be stuck at 164, right where I started. That's ok, bc I'm obese according to the charts on the internet, LOL. I had an ultrasound last week and the baby is doing fine. Look forward to hearing baby news from everyone!
|
I finally worked out today! Tried this weekend and made it into minute 12 of my pilates tape before feeling like I was going to pass out or throw up:(. I just walked two miles on the treadmill today.
Lifeguard - I hope you start feeling better soon - is this your first? I truly feel lucky that I have had no morning sickness. Everyone says that as soon as we get out of the first trimester we will feel better (of course, "everyone" says a lot of stuff:dizzy:) How have your yoga classes been going? I should probably look into classes in my area. Crystal - maybe someone else can help re: breast pump. I can't even deal with thinking about any of the post-natal stuff yet. It is a good thing I have family in the area or i would be lost. Bluepoppy - glad to hear the baby is doing well! Just make sure you are doing well also! |
