Dolly I use the avnet sippy cups and they are great! If you have the bottle s you can just buy the spout and the handles. Idid that too!
Well at this point I plan to keep nursing and I doubt she will wean herself. I basically nurse on demand which is pretty much only the evenings or if she gets upset. So even when I go back to work I can continue with that. So I think for now I will aim for 24 months and then we'll see. I also want to have another baby so ....
thanx for all of your help guys! I ended up contactinf my hospitals warm line for breastfeeding. they said that when you exercise a protein is let off into your milk which changes the flavor, some babys don't mind this, some do. the harder you exercise the more protein is let off. It does go away and flavor should return to normal after about a hr, however some babys still won't drink the milk. They rec exercising after feeding when breasts are empty and not doing a vigurous routine ex. walk for 45 mins not jog. beyond that they couldn't really say much! So I'll have to see what I can do, but its just so inportant to me to nurse my son right now, I don't want to do anything to jeperdise that. I hope to nurse until 1 yr, but I don't plan on weaning, so stopping nursing will be Levi's decision whenever that happens!
Also on another intrusting side note, my doctor finlly listened to me and checked my thyroid like I have been asking him to ( I knew something was wrong, normal people do not gain 30#, doing WW faithfully) and my thyroid was 69 normal range is between 0.5-5.0, the higher the number the less your thyroid is functioning. This can affect your milk supply and baby, so I just started medication and am hoping for good things!
All is good here. Brody is 6 months (and 24 pounds!). He doesn't really eat at daycare. I usually take 2 3oz bottles for the whole day. He likes it straight from the tap. My daughter was the same way. Bottle haters. He makes up for it at home. He nurses probably 3 times between 5 and 10 and about 3 times in the night. He likes solid foods, so he has those twice a day. Completely different from my toddler. She hated solids.
Anyway, all is good here. I'm re-energized to lose weight. I am down 15 from October, but I have another 20 to go.
I figured out the only way I can exercise is by sneaking in 10 minutes here and there. I'm walking the couple of blocks to get my coffee instead of driving by the coffee shop on the way to work. I'm hitting the treadmill for 10 minutes over lunch after I pump. I'm dancing with the kiddos for 10 minutes or so before bedtime. It is the only way I've found that works, so I'm sticking with it!
My new mission is to not eat after 8:00. That is when I do my worst. I eat a whole meal by the time I go to bed. Nobody needs to do that, nursing or not! I'm on a mission and hope to be down 10 pounds by the middle of April. My mom and I are challenging eachother since she is going to Napa Valley then.
DD is 7 months and still going strong. I don't have much to pump/express though so it limits my options for leaving the house. She's never been that fond of a bottle anyway, though.
I'm so darn hungry all of the time! Is that the nursing?

My current nursing baby is nearly 6 weeks old now and I am VERY hungry.. and unfortunately it seems I am craving carbs and sweets. Oh WHY?!? I think I have gained about 5 pounds or so since she was born. I refuse to diet when nursing such a small one because I get really cranky when I do that..but I don't want to continue to gain weight, either.. I guess my point in posting is to just say.. I understand the feeling hungry all the time. ((hugs))
I dropped nearly 40 lbs from my delivery date weight the first 8 weeks of DD's life, but I have mostly been stalled since then. I'm still 25 lbs lighter than when I got pg, so that's good anyway, and I'm still down from lifetime high. I really want to get the weight loss going again though.
My milk supply has leveled out. If I eat below 1800 cals, it really dips. And boy, I took a sudafed one day for a cold and could REALLY see a drop. I do eat oatmeal everyday and try to drink 1 or 2 cups of MM tea every day too. Luckily I only have to pump the 3 days a week I go into work - I telecommute 2x a wk. But the days I pump it makes it easy to fret about supply because you can really see what you produced. Other days, as long as baby is satisfied I just don't think about it.
Originally I wanted to go at least 9 months to get through cold and flu season. That's next month though and I can tell that DD and I are not even close to ready to quit nursing. So we'll just see how it goes. I definitely will hang up the horns at 1 year and not pump anymore though. Lots of the women on my breastfeeding group have been able to stop pumping at a year and still nurse am/pm and weekends, so hopefully that will happen for us.
I don't know about nursing and exercise but mornings I have to get up real early for work, I will go pick up sleeping DD and just put her to breast, and she will nurse up a storm and not even really wake up. Maybe you could try that before exercise?
Ok, this is getting really long now! Bye, chickies!
I'm new here hope I can join in! My baby is 6 weeks old now and I've been breastfeeding since the beginning...a few bumps along the way but we've got it pretty much down now I think.
I started out my pregnancy at 196 - I was part of this website before my pregnancy and had lost about 60 lbs, I was doing so good but unfortunately I gained 54 lbs during the pregnancy. So far I've lost 25 and I REALLY want to get back into onederland. Definitely being hungry a lot is a problem...and of course I'm hungry for all the wrong things...I have to get out shopping to have some better choices for when the hunger hits.
I am going to start exercising, but am concerned that it actually changes the taste of your milk?? That's interesting - hope Jacob doesn't mind the taste difference. Oh well I guess we'll find out and deal with it if it's a problem.
My baby is also just 6 weeks old (already?!?) I started out before this pregnancy at just under 200 pounds.. I was 225 before birth and I was 205 when I weighed myself after the birth..and about 5 pounds HEAVIER now, (210ish). It is hard..I am so hungry all the time.. but I just need to get a reign on it, I guess, unless I want to reach birth weight or higher, nonpregnant. I have all the good foods..but a few junk ones have snuck in the house. I think it is more that I am eating all the time out of all sorts of reasons other than hunger, not so much what foods. I hope you can reach your goals with weight loss this year. IF you are worried about the exercise affecting the taste of your milk, you could try exercising right after a feed so that it would be longer before he nursed again maybe? Some babies are sensitive to the extra lactic acid that may get in the milk but other babies don't seem to mind. Good Luck!
Welcome Liz and congrats on the babe! I agree with snoopysgirl - try nursing right before exercising. I have heard that the taste goes back to normal after an hour or two after exercise. I know that's a long time for a 6 wk old to go, but he may not mind the taste change anyway.
As far as the hunger - protein and fiber keep you satisfied much longer than carbs and/or fat. I love the All-Bran garlic/herb crackers with a couple wedges of laughing cow. And the Quaker Weight Control oatmeal is fantastic, plus any kind of oats helps your milk supply.
I buy the mini peeled carrots for the munchies. They get a little boring, but you can make some good dips with low-fat sour cream or even cottage cheese to help them along.
snoopysgirl - That's great, we can compare notes on these 6 week olds!! LOL So far so good I think. Is this your first baby?
That's a good idea to exercise right after nursing. He's usually about 2 1/2 hours between feedings so if i do an hour of exercise we should be OK. Now if I can figure out how to get him to sleep without being ON me and then I can actually exercise!! haha Oh well I can always do it when my husband is around too.
Good ideas on the snacks, I need to get my arsenal back together from before when I was losing weight...I swore by kashi go lean crunch, lots of fruits and veggies and I loved making wraps with low fat turkey and mustard and some red peppers. I am so excited to lose weight again! We are going to a cottage in June and I would love to be back to my pre-pregnancy weight of 195 or so then. Getting back into the clothes I was wearing then would feel great.
Hi all, I'm Nat, I've been breastfeeding my son for 6 and a half months now. He's started weaning - he has 1 solid meal a day as well as breastmilk whenever he wants it. He's a massive chunky boy - dunno exactly how much he weighs but it's at least 22-26lbs - along those lines. He eats like a horse lol.
Nat, I can't believe your baby is eating so well!!! My daughter will be two years old in May and she just hit 22 pounds! She's still in her rear-facing infant seat in the car!
Looking forward to getting to know you both better!
lol well he was a big bubba at birth. 10lbs 1oz. He just keeps getting bigger lol. He's proportionate though
I have a daughter too - she's almost 2 and a half. She's about 35lbs but she too was big at birth (10lbs 10oz) haha - I grow them large! (She's proportionate too though, she's tall so not fat).

Hey Liz,
No, this is not my first; she is my 5th. My children are nearly 9,7,5,2, and 6 weeks. My weight has done quite a bit of fluctuating over the past 10 years between pregnancies, postpartums and all that. I gained waaaaay too much with my first pregnancy, (went from 135 to 210!) and I got down to about 180 when I became pregnant with my second.. I have had a difficult time getting much below that and 230's seem to be my top out weight. I was slightly below 200 before this most recent pregnancy and managed to gain a healthy amount, between portion control and semi regular exercise. I was 205 after this birth.. and I have gained a few pounds since then.. but I have managed to lose a few pounds this week by cutting out a lot of the extra naughty nightime noshing/binging since earlier this week. I think it may take some creative thinking to figure out how to become consistant again with my exercise. My baby is really content but I have been feeling like I am treading water to just stay on top of housework and homeschooling--and maybe a shower every so often. I think once it warms up I can maybe get outside some with the children.. but I will be honest, it seems overwhelming to think about all this weight I want to lose, at times.
Hi Nat! Welcome! My "littles" have been chunkers too.. but they are tall and they turn into string beans once they get past that toddler stage. (My 4th baby was 11 pounds! I was quite thankful that my 5th was "only" 9 pounds 10 ounces, even a week postdates. ) I love chubby breastfed babies..those cute lil chunky cheeks.. double chins, etc. I have given up on e ver having a petite lil newborn.. but I also adore and admire my friends who have them. I fear that I would find mine too fragile to handle if I ever had one too small, (below 9 pounds, LOL)
March is here now and spring is right around the corner; I hope that we all can continue to lose the weight we want safely and healthfully while nursing our beautiful babies
