Question Metformin Question

I just started taking Met last Friday. I am taking 500mg this week, then 1000mg next week, then 1500mg after that. The Dr. gave me 3 months supply. I am wondering....if I become pregnant, do I stop taking Met, or keep on taking it?

I think you should talk with your physician? Are you taking this because you are TTC?

It depends on your doctor and why you were taking it in the first place. Some doctors have you take it thru the first trimester and others have you stop when you find out. The best bet is if you get a BFP that you call your dr right away and ask how to handle it. They may want to do bloodwork before stopping your meds just to make sure your levels are okay.

Good Luck

The reasoning behind the Metformin is because he suspects that I am having insulin problems (but I'm not diabetic). He also explained to me that the Met will help produce high quality eggs. He said it will also help me lose some of the weight I've gained. I can't wait to get pregnant, but I am hoping that the Met has a chance to kick in for me and take off some pounds. I don't want to put off kids just for the sake of losing weight, so I was kinda hoping that I can stay on the Met if I get pregnant. I have an appt tomorrow, so I'll ask him what the plan is!

Yes, many of us do have insulin resistance and store insulin in extra places that interfere with our fertility.

I have more weight to lose then you but I started losing weight on met when I started 1000mg.

Hope that your appointment goes well tomorrow.

So far I've only managed to lose 2 lbs...mostly due to being in the washroom more than usual. Don't know if that's the Clomid or the Met? We'll see how it goes when I start taking 1000mg tomorrow.

I am taking Metformin and clomid also.
I have had 6 months of the clomid with no response. I have started round 2 last month. I asked my Gyn/ OB and the nurse said if I were to get pregnant would he want me to stay on metformin ? She said yes to help not have a miscarriage in the early trimester. Now, that is what he told me, your case may be different of couse.
We have been trying to become pregnant for 7 years now. MY husband is overweight too and I wonder if that has an impact on things.

Hey ladies....another question for ya. I was told to take the Met at the same time every day. What is the significance of this? I find it hard to do this. Sometimes I forget, or sometimes I eat my supper at different times. For example, I didn't eat until 9pm tonight, so I didn't take my pills til then. Does varying the times affect the chances of it working?
