I am new to PCOS
I am new to PCOS and understanding it but I will give a little background as to what I have experienced so far.
I was unknowingly diagnosed with PCOS in 2008. I dont know what type I have and just found out that it was a confirmed diagnosis last year.
I was referred by my OBGYN to a Diabetes and Lipids specialist after she put me on metformin and was unable to control my blood sugar. I had a test for PCOS but she never confirmed PCOS to me other than to say in passing that it could possibly be the problem. I went to the Diabetes specialist and saw a nurse practitioner there and without any blood tests he put me on 2000mg Metformin and Lantus (an insulin pen). I took these medicines for a year before I went back to the doctor and found out that the nurse practitioner had been let go and an investigation was pending on his license. At this point I saw the main doctor (and refuse to see any one but him from now on). His exact words to me were, "you are a metabolic mess". After blood tests they said that my kidneys werent working right and for the life of my doctor (and me!) they couldnt figure out what was going on. So the doctor contacted my OBGYN who told him that she had informed the nurse practitioner that I did in fact have PCOS and he didnt document it, so my doctor (as pissed off as he was about the whole situation) stopped the insulin immediately and put me on metformin and glimperide to treat my diabetes and lisinopril and pravistatin as preventative for heart disease.
I had no idea that there were different types of PCOS and I have no idea what type I could be or how to even tell. I dont go back to the doctor for my diabetes until May but I have an appointment with my regular doctor in March and will ask them about it. I have a period every month, buts its so intense (heavy and extremely large blood clots) that I dont even leave the house for a week.
I hope I didn't bore anyone right off the bat! I am new to the entire forum and still learning how to navigate all of this so please be patient!
