Default Insulite PCOS System

Hi Ladies,

I wanted to get some opinions on Insulite, I feel a bit undecided, I know it has a ton of stuff in the pills but as a college student is it worth the extra expense? I spoke with someone who is managing their PCOS and she said she took it for 6 months and it helped her system get back to normal. What do you ladies think?

I take supplements, not purchased from Insulite, that I think have the same effects.

I take a whole food vitamin, fish oil, chromium polynicolinate, vitamin C, magnesium, all for the PCOS.

I also take other supplements for other reasons.

I think you need to go to a Whole Foods and see how much the separate supplements cost and then compare it to the insulite system and see if it makes sense for you.

The key to controlling PCOS is really managing your diet and exercise AND consistency!!!!! more than anything else you can do.

Thanks Rana I am currently taking supplements but I almost feel lost as to what else I should take there are so many out there that people use and it seemed to me that the Insulite combined a ton of them, but really I'd prefer not to have to do that if I can avoid it. What is the whole foods vitamin? I love whole foods I'm such a junkie.

How does fish oil help pcos? What about prime rose oil I've herd alot of good reviews on that do you take that?

I just want to make it a manageable regimen

Other then that I've been doing exorcise and low carb. I find it extremely difficult to maintain super low carb atkins so I've been doing a low carb diet but not 20 grams a day max. Any other advice would be great. Thanks.

This is the best site ever: Mary's PCOS Site

She has listed all the treatment options, including supplements and that's how I selected which ones I take.

All and all, it's an experiment on your body on what works, more than anything definitive. Our bodies are all different will react differently to the same stuff.

I've been thinking about doing the insulite system too, but scared to come off my medications which have helped my symptoms of hair growth on my face, hair loss around the hairline, acne. I still get symptoms though like not getting my period every month even though I'm on Yaz. There is an E book called Freedom from PCOS written by someone who says she reversed her symptoms without meds. Anyone read that? I think I'll download it because it's only 17 dollars. I've also heard Inosistol powder works for PCOS. Any feedback would be appreciated. It's been very hard for me to lose weight even though I've been working out more consistently. I'm going to cut out gluten, adopt a more South Beach Diet type of eating.

She has a website as well and blog she now reps for insulite as well.

I've heard a lot of PCOS and diabetics take it and I think you should go ahead and try it! It's supposed to help a lot. I don't take it in pill form because I'll eat it in my foods but I'm also taking the chelated chromium.

what is the difference between chelated and regular chromium? Do you get chromium at whole foods I couldn't find alot of places that carry it.

This conversation interests me. I'm at the point where I'm ready to come off the pill. Been on it for a long, long time and it's hubby's turn to take one for the team so he's planning his vasectomy since we're done having kids.

At the moment I go with a general multi, calcium with magnesium and D3, vit b12, and then fish oil capsules. My energy is better when I take it.

I'd like to add chasteberry and then see what happens.

A.

DashingDiva - from what I understand, the difference is how your body absorbs and uses the chromium. I take chromium polynicolinate, which is a niacin bound chromium. This chromium type has been found to be readily absorbed by the body to booster the effects of insulin.

Picolinate chromium, has, in large doses, been found to cause chromosome damage. But other people take it and see results with it.

Polynicolinate is found in my Whole Foods. You can also buy it online. I take 800 mcg, which is about 4 pills.

You want some kind of "chelated" chromium because you need the chromium to be absorb-able by the body.

My whole regime is this:
2 fish oil capsule (also from Whole Foods)
4 Chromium polynicolinate pills (for insulin resistance)
1 Super B complex vitamin (PCOS, because we use up a lot of the B vitamins)
1000 mg Vitamin C (for immunity health/repair)
1 whole foods multivitamin (made from food, rather than minerals so the body can absorb it easily)
2 cranberry pills (for UTIs)
2 glucosamine chondrotin tablets for my knee (I had surgery many years ago and I need it to keep it in top form)
400 mg Magnesium
2000-4000 du of Vitamin D

Last edited by Rana; 11-27-2011 at 06:33 PM. Reason: I forgot the Magnesium and the Vit D!!!!

astrophe I find that b complex rather then b12 gives me the boost I need I take the b complex from GNC because it has biotin in it and a days serving of folic acid. Not sure if its good for everyone but I feel better when i take it much better then the just b12. To be honest I hate taking tons of supplements but I find I do feel better. Also GNC has a combo vitamin GNC Calcium PlusŪ 1000 with Magnesium & Vitamin D which has all 3 in one pill not sure if its any good.

Rana- I was wondering what you think of CQ10?? I think i will get the multi from whole foods and look into the chromium.

I don't think much of it, because my total cholesterol went significantly down (the last time I checked it was 112) and my LDL levels were lower than my HDL levels. So, I think if there is no need to take a supplement or vitamin because you can control it through foods, then go the food route!

The only reason I take vitamins and supplements is because my body and my diet don't include enough of them. My IR/PCOS causes my Vitamin D levels to be low (and magnesium and b-vitamins), so I supplement. I take the chromium because I have IR. I take the cranberry because I was getting a lot of UTIs.

I don't like just taking a bunch of pills for the sake of taking pills!!!

And it does take me a little while to eat them all, so that's not a whole lot of fun.

Oh, the other thing I take, but for my own digestive health, is a probiotic.

Rana- Did you have to change up your fish oils until you found one that didn't give you fish burps I used to take it until I started getting them.

I find that "fish burps" is a question of what I'm eating, rather than the fish oil themselves. If I have been eating a lot "junk" for my body, whether it's food that I have slight intolerances for (but are yummy anyway!), I get those. But I rarely do and I've tried all the different types out there.
