Glucophage
Hi everyone...I am a new member, just registered. I had my first endo visit today. Although I did not go for this reason..it came about. I was going for a high prolactin level that has just gone down from a medication I was taking for my bipolar depression.
But then she asked me about a family history of diabetes, and I said yes, cause their is. She then told me that I may have insulin resistance...I am overweight..at 5ft, probably about 160, so yes, I'm a blimpo. SHe said if I am insulin resistant, then there are 'things we could do". I got the undertone she may be talking about medication...but then at the same time not, but I do know of glucophage. I was tested for PCOS by my obgyn in March, although she said my ovaries were fine. But I do have facial hair that has required more attn in the last few yrs. Aside from losing my periods for 3 months last yr due to that med, my periods are fairly regular. So yes, I think I can have PCOS.
So my question is...if I have insulin resistance..is it better to take glucophage? SHould I ask for it? It is hard for me to stick to low carb, b/c I hate meat and do not eat it. But I do eat veggies and try to have whole wheat pasta when I eat it. I was fine weight wise til I was about 24. I am 27 now. I would be willing to modify my eating, but I feel I'd need help. Can I ask for it if she does not propose it? I just really do not need another dr telling me I'm fat and to diet..cause if it were that easy, it would have happened already. Thanks in advance. I think I finally found ppl who understand.
Hugs,
Lauren
