I weighed in again today (since it's been a week, after all), and I'm down to 178.8. YAY! I haven't seen this number since May!

I wonder if the chromium is helping. I'm not sure if I am supposed to feel a difference in cravings or lose weight or something else. Does anyone know?

Who's here this month?
I am...I just found this forum and I could not be ANY more excited to finally be able to talk with others who understand this journey.

How are you?
I am beginning to focus on myself again. Looking for an endo doctor, we live in what is considered a rural area so the medical care while adequate for general issues has been lacking for my PCOD with Syndrome X issues.

What are you working on?
I started South Beach on Monday...so far so good. I am working on getting the junk flushed out of my system.

How was last month?
It was the bottom for me, I looked at the scale and knew I could no longer ignore what this is doing to me. Painful realization.

How's your PCOS management going?
To be honest, I'm not sure. I have been unable to take the metformin, it just makes me so bloody sick. No matter how I try to ease into it, it just really affects me. So, I am not taking anything at this point...which I know is NOT good, which is why I am looking for an endo doctor. I feel my hormones are beyond my ob/gyn.

I had a hysterectomy 5 years ago and as far as he is concerned that has solved my problem...ummm really? Then why did I overhear my son telling his friend he can't wait to grow a moustache cause since boys get their hair from their mom (do you see where this is going?) he is gonna have a KILLER one! LMBO...out of the mouths of babes. He hasn't tested my levels in 4ever. I had depression issues going on that made it so I wasn't even interested in my health, but I am feeling better now, so I am taking the reins again...go me!

Hi ASQ, welcome to 3FC! :welcome:

RUN fast from that OB/GYN. A hysterectomy has nothing to do with curing PCOS, otherwise I know a whole lot of women who would be lining up for one! Find yourself another one, or even go to an endocrinologist who can help you control your symptoms. I can't take Met, either. I was just sick, sick, sick. Never got used to it. I did have some success with chelated chromium. Also, exercise is a wonderful way to help control it, and to burn off that excess insulin in your system. Lots of people can lose weight without exercise, but it's rare for an IR person to lose successfully without it. Just keep working at it, and you'll see that weight come off and hopefully those symptoms will fly out the window with the weight! Keep in touch and let us know how South Beach is working for you!

Arctic Stamp Queen:

I agree with Jennifer 3FC. Do see an endocrinologist and talk about Met. If it was plain, try extended release. If it was both, try glumetza (digested in a different place than met). Take with food, stair step up to the dose you need to be at. 500 one week, then 1000, etc.

This is a hormone/endocrine problem -- so just having a hysterectomy doesn't "cure" PCOS.

My Check In:

Exhausted, in a good way. Had a party over the weekend. Feeling pretty good -- just have to clean up house now. I'm looking forward to this week.

A. :)

chouchoubou 10-12-2010 12:40 AM

hi ladies. been awhile but i'm lurking around. :) glad to see everyone well.

Arctic Stamp Queen 10-12-2010 01:44 AM

Hello ladies...thanks for the support and encouragement. The hysterectomy was actually not for PCOS, it was for endometriosis and a host of other issues, and performed by another OB/GYN.

BUT, when I moved to the rural town I live in now, the OB/GYN that my insurance will cover told me I no longer had PCOS, since I no longer had ovaries. He would agree that I have the hormonal disorder/IR that goes with PCOS, but I DO NOT HAVE PCOS (his words, not mine)...whatever, rolling eyes.

I have tried stair stepping the Metformin, different brands, etc. it just makes me sick and confines me to my house. It doesn't matter how long I take it the symptoms never abate for me. I stopped taking it when I started working full time with students. Can't just leave them alone when I need to run to the restroom every 20 minutes.

I've recently been trying Avandia...has anyone here been on that with any success? I've been on it for about 6 months, but I am still gaining weight like crazy and growing hair on my neck now. Thinking it's not working?

That being said, I am anxious to hear what the natural doctor has to say on Friday...very very anxious.

Quickie check in -- Stayed on food plan today. Yay!

Well, no workin out for me this week. On Sunday I jabbed my big toe on my right foot and it HURTS! The nail in the front is coming up and I've been given Vicodin to ease the pain. So, I am giving my toe a rest and going tonresume working out next week.

JB - I will be adding in minutes with you next week. Keep up the good work.

I hope everyone else is working out. If so, log in those minutes. We want more minutes than September =D

Ok I will be back tomorrow. Even though I'm not working out, I still need the motivation to build up so I can get back on track.

Love you all

Goodnight.

Cookc04 10-13-2010 12:12 AM

I can't believe it - I've lost 10lb without drugs. ( my GP and I are not drug happy people and agreed to try without drugs first to see if I could)
Okay it's taken 3 months but it has come off. I think even some of that metabolic fat has come off.
At this rate I'll be actively losing for the next 18 months.
Will my impatience lead to me resorting to drugs?

PinkHoodie 10-13-2010 11:21 AM

Today is a feel sorry for myself day because I have PCOS. I am so discouraged about a lot of things right now. Not being able to get pregnant after 6 and a half years...still being over 200 pounds even though I am working my butt off! This disease just has stolen everything from that I want right now, and I am just sick of it!! URGH!!

astrophe 10-13-2010 10:33 PM

chouchoubou: glad you are around! Lurky or not. :)

Arctic Stamp Queen:
I havne't done avandia but will send good vibes for your fri appt! :)

Nicoyaangel: Ouch! Hope you heal fast. That sounds painful. :(

Cookc04: Yay! However long it took you got it OFF! That's awesome. :carrot:

PinkHoodie:  I'm sorry today's one of the PCOS Blues days. Sometimes it really can feel like that.

My Check In:

Feeling a bit crazy, though not AS crazy. It's getting to be TOM time, I'm bloated, craving sweets, and to top it off, might have a sinus infection.

The good part is that I stayed mostly on track today with the food log.

So a little at a time!

A.

Pink Hoodie - know exactly what u feel like .. but the important thing is to stay motivated...and be around positive people!

My check in - I visited a new OB/GY yesterday. I'm so thankful I went. She was very positive, very encouraging about pregnancy prospects. Still is old school and doesn't over medicate. The previous OB/GY had pretty much said the plot is lost!! Anyway ... hopefully the lab results should come ok..
Its amazing what a positive encouraging doctor can do to your mindset. :)
Anyway, on the food log and excercise bit have been lax this week. But I think its ok, first lapse in over 4 months! yay me!
The other good news is I've lost about 23 pounds since June .. shopped for new clothes this weekend :) Love the feeling!!

Let's go ladies ... the answer to most of our problems - WORKING OUT!! :)

161 /138 / 115
healthier living since June 2010

Nicolai 10-14-2010 06:37 AM

Hello Forum - I'm a newbie and I think Ill fit right in about here :)
I have PCOS and endometriosis and been desperately trying to get pregnet - but that will not happen until I lose weight. I'm on Metformin as I'm prediabetic and my diet is coming right albeit slowly. I've started Kung Fu once a week and walking on the other days.

Its going to be quite a journey, so any help or advice is more than welcome.

Nicolai 10-14-2010 06:39 AM

Sorry - also how can I get a little weight-loss tracker thats at the bottom of peoples posts? Thanks!

Cookc04 10-14-2010 08:40 AM

Welcome Nicolai,
The trackers come after about 20 days, and 20 posts - or something like that.
Best bit of advice - take the weight you think is reasonable to loose in a week... that's about how much you'll lose in a month. Have patience it does come off - someitmes it's just really slow, if you are losing fast, there does come points when it slows down. Ride this out.
Blood Sugar is an issue - be smart about you carbs... stick with the Low GI Carbs - this will mean less issues with hunger, and you will be able to stick on plan better.
and
We all have bad times moods and meals, just get online have a good whine and pick yourself up and get back on the wagon. Don't beat yourself up about it.
Oh and big one Dietary Salt and Time of Month can cause bloating or fluid retention - you might not feel it, but you will probably see it on the scale, again don't beat yourself up about it, just knows that it takes a couple of days to come down.
TOM = Time of Month
NSV = non scale victory
