Default newbie with PCOS

I'm fairly new to this forum and have been struggling with my weight for a long time. I recently went to the doctor because I have felt so crappy and she diagnosed me with hypo-active thyroid and PCOS. She prescribed me Metformin 500 mg three times a day (not the ER form). I have tried taking it but it makes me so darn sick. I usually give up after the first day or so of the vomiting and diarrhea. I also have all of the lovely symptoms of PCOS I've been fighting with...tired all of the time, excess hair growth (the worse symptom in my opinion ) and so forth.
I'm hoping to use this part of the forum to keep me motivated to take my medicine and hopefully some day I won't need it any more when I lose my excess weight!

I've totally been there... but I have to say that ER was much better for me. I have been on it for almost a year now. I would discuss all of the problems you are still having with your doctor. Good Luck!

Welcome to the Forum Nikki.

I am on 2,000mg of Metformin a day. The first day I was vomiting and had diarrhea but it gets better, I promise. Your body has to get used to it. I have lost almost 20 lbs so far so there is a good side to it.

I agree with the top poster, if the symptoms get worse or they don't get better then go talk to your Doc.

I agree with Heather, the ER form (Glumetza is what I take) made such a huge difference with the stomach issues. Good luck!
