PCOS/Insulin Resistance SupportSupport for us with any of the following: Insulin Resistance, Syndrome X, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, or other endocrine disorders.
Anyone is welcome here. Some of us are most definitely not TTC, while others want to put that in the future sometime but we are all here struggling with PCOS.
Today I went to Whole Foods with DH and we found Quorn. I thought of it more as something similar to TVP where you mix it in rather than a "fake" meat. I don't do well with "fake" meats but I decided to try it since it was on sale. We'll see how I like it
I've never posted on the PCOS forum before, but I have lurked around and posted elsewhere. I was diagnosed with PCOS about 2 years ago, but never really looked into it until very recently as far as the weight loss implications.
What *did* prompt me to start posting was when I heard all of the talk about quorn. I remember I used to eat quorn all the time when I was living in Europe. I remember it being used MUCH more frequently in meat-like products there (like "chicken" patties) than TVP, at least in the small town where I lived in the Netherlands. When we were eating it, we weren't *exactly* sure what it was, but we all gobbled it up and thought it was delicious. My mom liked it, because it made fixing meals to please us kids pretty easy. I haven't had it since then, so my tastes may have changed, but I do have fond memories.
I'm making progress. I'm currently at my wedding weight of 6 months ago. I've been struggling for the past 6 months but I think the struggle has subsided for a while. I've been exercising every day and eating well.
I'm here too - I'm going to subscribe to the thread so I don't lose it this time.
Weight loss is still going well around here. Many of my pcos symptoms seem to be at bay right now. Not sure if it's because my body knows what it's supposed to do now after having a child or if it's because I'm breastfeeding, but it's working and I love it!
I just wanted to throw in a plug for the program I'm doing. I started the program in September of 2006 and so far I have lost 71.5 pounds. No diet has EVER worked for me before, but this is working wonders. My goal is to lost 150 pounds, so I'm nearly half way there. I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 14, so it's been 10 years of struggling to get this weight off. I'm smaller than I have been since Jr. High School, which feels amazing. The program I'm on is Metabolic Research Center (no they don't do research) or Metabolic Weight Loss Center. It's amazing. I know I'm doing okay with food choice, but I really need to start journalling again too - I'm just sort of counting throughout the day. The other way works so much better! And, I need to get exercising, it was getting nice out and we've taken some nice walks (DD is in a stroller), but it took a turn and is cold again. I need to do something inside!
Lookingforhope - ouch! I hope you are doing better.
I'm doing good so far. I recently found out that I have visible collarbones. It amazes me.
Yesterday, I went to Red Robin and had a lettuce wrap garden burger with a side salad. It was really good. My plan is to eat out once a week and hopefully make good choices when I do. DH really wanted a hamburger and fries (well he got a salmon burger) so it worked out for both of us.
I need to get back on track. My eating has been horrendous. I haven't been able to work back up to 2000mg Glucophage xr either. I see the dr on Thursday so will hopefully figure something out.
I only ended up with 610 minutes of a 1575 minute goal over 10 weeks. I have set another goal for now to memorial day. I will get better results this time around
Hi everybody! My April is going ok. I've had long work days that have been cutting in to gym time ( I don't like to work out late, I can't sleep at night if I do...) so I am thinking about buying a TreadClimber to slip in some early morning workouts.
Let me know about any good Quorn experiences! I have tried the ground beef sub, and it was ok on texture but missing a little in flavor. A girl at the natural food store said she made poppy seed chicken casserole (a southern favorite) and her friends didn't know the difference.
I made Quorn for my kids for the first time this week and they loved it! I did a Bolognese with the mince style quorn and then a stir-fry with the chicken style. I was quite surprised as one of my lads is really fussy and doesn't normally try new things.
I got the bolognese recipe off the quorn website (never cooked it from scratch before) and I was really impressed. Dead easy to use
There was some kind of news story a while back about Quorn, and maybe bacterial infections, or a food poisoning scare? Do you remember what that was about? I can't remember...I know I thought Mmmmm, sounds good, and then a friend emailed me the story. Sounded scary, but figured it was probably a freak incident.
