Hmmm...Don't remember about bacterial infections however I do know that a lot of people get concerned over it since it is a fungus based food. If you are allergic to mushrooms and even some types of mold it can be an allergen.

I still haven't gotten around to finding it in the grocery store.

Glad to hear that the some of the recipes are good on the Quorn site.

Ok, here are some Quorn stories. You can probably find sites like this for most foods, but it's enough to make me think twice!

Now be warned - this is a very controversial subject - I'm just the messenger!

So what is what? Quorn? DH has a veggie brother so he told me about Quorn a while back and his brother said it was vat grown. It is some kind of fungus (similar to mushrooms). I haven't looked it up exactly. I know the sound of it isn't very appetizing but it seems interesting. I still haven't tried it.

I've never seen quorn in stores - do you have to buy it from a Whole Foods/Trader Joe's type place? The closest TJ's to us is about 35 minutes away, so I don't tend to shop there.

Hello ladies!!

Just wanted to introduce myself:

My name is Mary and I'm a SAHM. I was diagnosed with PCOS in my early 20's. I had my son last year with the help of Letrozol. I had GD during my pregnancy but managed not to gain any weight at all with the diabetic diet they had me on. This of course means I went nuts the minute I had him. I lost 30 lbs breast feeding and have gained 20 of it back. My dh is right along with me. We both need to lose this weight to feel better and keep up with our 8mth old who crawls like a speed demon and is determined to start walking ASAP.

I'm glad I found you ladies and hopefully we can help each other get and stay motivated.

Good Luck

Welcome

Today, I didn't feel like exercising but I ended up doing 70 minutes total. I'm trying to exercise every day and I haven't missed a day in over two weeks.

I'm also switching up my diet a little. I'm trying to do vegetarian with the only dairy being whey protein powder. I like it a lot so far because it is a bit challenging but gives me a chance to experiment with meals and such.

I hope everyone is doing well.

Jennifer, sorry I'm so late in reading this thread and getting back to you. I lived in Hulst (a very small town, about 20,000 people MAYBE), which is right near the Belgian border, about 30 minutes from Antwerp, Belgium.

I had never heard the bad reactions from quorn. Not that I was planning on dashing out to the store to get it, but it certainly does make me think. Same thing happened with the soy products. I went onto a few websites talking about people who had gotten horrible hormonal imbalances (along with women needing hysterectomies and getting cancer, etc.) and they claim it's because of the soy. Who knows to what extent this is true, but it does still make you think. Why does food have to be so dangerous? Haha.

Well with Soy, if I'm eating a lot of it, my hormones do go out of whack. I try to limit my soy but I still do eat soy products just not as freely as I used to.

Some people on other boards have actually used soy to regulate their cycles and actually ovulate, as opposed to taking something like clomid.

I'd be worried if I started ovulating. Maybe if I was TTC, it'd be different.

I haven't ever eaten enough soy products to really notice a difference but I have read that it can effect your estrogen.

I tend to think that they can find something wrong with everything if they look hard enough and if you consume/use enough of it. Moderation is the key to most things.

I'm gonna jump in, too!
I just discovered this thread about an hour ago

I'm Kelly, and I was diagnosed with PCOS in May 2006. I am currently taking Metformin and Spirinolactone to help with my insulin resistance and testosterone levels. My testosterone levels haven't changed at all in the past 8 months, so I think we will be changing my treatment on my next follow-up, unless me losing weight will help that.
I had a little girl in 2004, after we'd stopped TTC (go figure LOL). We tried for a year and a half with no luck, then we just decided to put it on hold for a while, so I could finish school. I also did low-carb, and lost 35 pounds. Well, lo and behold I got PG. After I was diagnosed with PCOS, it all made sense as to why it took so long to get PG, and it happened after I lost weight.
Anyway, I am rambling...

I started my new diet (watching calories making healthier choices) and exercise regime on March 26 at 220 lbs, and I am already down 8 pounds. My goal is to lose at least 30 lbs by July 7th (the date of my sister's wedding...I am the matron of honor), and to lose 65 pounds by Thanksgiving. So... we'll see how it goes!
