Mars, I rarely miss a weigh in :) I have actually gotten totally dressed before then took off my clothes to weigh myself, that has also kept me from eating until I got back to the scale (I know not healthy) but hey ;)

Wannabehealthy 10-12-2015 02:11 PM

Rennie, we don't have WaWa in W Pa. Had to google to see what it was. We used to have 7-11 here and there but haven't seen it for a long time. We have Scheetz, an occasional Stop N Go, and now Speedway is popping up everywhere.

If you liked my description of eating the sweet potato you should hear me describe eating a cup cake. LOL Here comes all those empty calories and sugar, flooding my blood stream, proven when I test afterwards and my BS has skyrocketed!! And not given me even an ounce of nutritional value!!

Mars, as much as you hate the lard-butt, if you're going to have fat, that's where to have it. Upper body fat like mine wraps around your organs and wreaks havoc.

Something else about exercise, other than muscles burning more calories, the hormonal changes turn on your fat-burning genes. I love to read about all this stuff. Unfortunately I don't always put it to practice!! I just spent 30 min turning on my fat-burning genes! LOL Burn, baby, burn!!!

love2b150 10-12-2015 02:42 PM

Carol we have Sheetz, but the food isn't as good to me (or the kids) as Wawa's. I am not a fan of microwave hotdogs. 7-11, I miss the 1/4 hotdogs, Slurpee's and the inexpensive (Krispy Kreme tasting) glazed doughnuts. Now I do like the hotdogs at Circle K when they have them. The people there don't pay attention to when they are sold so they never cook more. And if I have all of the kids with me, there are never enough. You get two grill items and any size fountain drink for $2.59. We had a Speedway gas station about 40 minutes south of us in Virginia. The gas prices were great there :) Yeah no nutritional value on the cupcake but oh so tasty.

Jacqui_D 10-12-2015 06:21 PM

Mars, oh okay, I see what you are saying about muscle gain. I'd love to believe that's it, but that seems a little too good to be true! Yay on not buying treats at the store on your way home! Good job! :bravo: And a BIG YAY on not feeling at war with your body!

Rennie, I'm completely expecting my weight to be close to what I weigh on my Dad's scale fully dressed. I'm just hoping that I compensated for it enough and it's not more! But, if it is, it is! :dunno: I'm so glad you had a good time in VA! Do your best and I bet you'll reach that 168 by next week!

Carol Sue, woohoo on being down another lb! :yay: I agree with Mars: "There's no limit on the #of times to enter Onederland. Better than not re-entering!" You can do it! You belong there! :cheer: I love that you are eating one of your favorite foods, sweet potatoes, while losing! Oh if only I could eat pumpkin doughnuts and lose like that, lol!

Thank you for the welcome everyone. I will probably post my weights and maybe post some highlight meals once a week to share ideas. One reason the glycemic load diet works for me is that I don't feel obligated to track anything, which is a reason I often stop diets. It feels more like a lifestyle than a diet, if that makes sense. And it seems to work for me in a lot of different ways, from my hormones to losing weight. I'm still coming up with good recipes, though.

I pulled a muscle in my shoulder this morning, doing almost nothing. I'm still a little bewildered on how I wrenched it. I was pushing the shower curtain out of the way, a rather ordinary movement, and it seized up. It's still hurting quite a bit. I had big plans to do my Piyo arms video tonight, so I'm feeling a bit bummed. The weather is supposed to be nice this week, so I guess I'll walk at lunch break instead and just take it easy. And I've got some hormone swings going on, because I've been HANGRY the past two days eating lots of food.

I'm going to borrow Jacqui's weight tracker method, though probably not fully dressed unless noted.

Rennie Now that's what I call commitment! :):carrot: Well i guess maybe if you were weighing several times a day that could be crazy-making. I admit to having done that in the past ;) We have a lot of 7-11s here in NoCal, but no Sheetz or Wawa. I used to stop by the 7-11 half a mile down the street, on the way home from work, and even now, if it's late & i have that 'last chance for junk food' mindset, it's handy. They have some some Ben & Jerrys pints, or are they quarts? Never mind!

Wild Blue Yonder :getwell: Ouch, I'm sorry to hear about your shoulder. Could you have somehow strained it earlier, and the shower curtain just was the final straw? I've had that scenario with low back strains. hope your shoulder heals soon. Take good care of yourself. No housework or dishes until it's better-Doctor's Orders! :D Hope those hangries abate too, dang hormones.

Carol "Burn baby burn." Love that!:flow1:You are right re fat distribution, I know I'm lucky to have a lard butt. My sister is an apple and has the expected health problems. She always craved potatoes and bread growing up while I went straight for the sweets. I always wonder if there is any connection.

Jacqui Time will tell what's going on your weight, esp weighing in on your home scale. But I agree with Carol that you have yourself on a roll. There is always a little muscle loss with a diet according to the experts, but you have to be pretty sedentary to lose a significant enough amount to register as a downward scale trend. Does your home scale give body composition? (I know they are not accurate, but mine is a t least consistent, so I just like to note the change when there is one).

I want to do another mini-stepper session but it's kinda hot today, feels like high 80s. Maybe after dark.

mars735 10-13-2015 08:09 AM

Good morning!
Yesterday's meals
B mushroom, olive omelet, whey shake/coffee
S roasted cabbage/evoo
L turkey chili
S apple
D salad, beans, chicken, evoo; cauliflower
S 2 tiny potatoes (white), zapped in the microwave, piece of chicken
16 min stair stepper
2+L herbal tea
today WI 168.4 delayed reaction from wknd? 90 degrees yesterday--I seem to hold water when it's hot.

love2b150 10-13-2015 12:35 PM

LOL mars, when I was a SAHM I use to weigh several times a day. Yes completely disrobing. It was crazy, but it was interesting to see how difference things affected the scale numbers ;) LOL on the ice cream container size. I'm not big on ice cream unless there's cake or it's soft serve so I have never paid attention to the Ben & Jerry's :)

despite my frenzy on eating yesterday I dropped a pound. Trying another post-ers menu for the day. It's low calorie Jacqui but after Friday through Monday's messed up eating it's all good :)

PrairieQueen 10-13-2015 02:25 PM

So busy today, just now able to write something. So Aunt Flo will not leave this month! I don't know why she's sticking around....I've been drinking plenty of water and behaving mostly, although I'm having plumbing problems again. I think from traveling and being in (very) strange surroundings all day Sunday, I had a mental "block" (pun intended).

Anyway, yesterday's menu:
Breakfast - 2 sausage rolls and a Coke Life
Lunch - organic chicken/cheese burrito (small & only 300 Cal)
Snack - Skinny popcorn
Dinner - one beef fajita (peppers/onioins/taco sauce/dollop of sour cream)
Snack - Apple crisp (I wasn't even hungry, but it was calling my name)

Today's menu:
Breakfast - McD's sausage burrito w/hot sauce & Coke Life
Lunch - one beef fajita minus the sour cream
Dinner - 8 baby grilled chicken wings and a light beer (my usual at the local)
NO SNACKING TONIGHT!

Jacqui_D 10-13-2015 03:33 PM

Wild_Blue, I'm sorry about your shoulder. No telling what caused it, but I hope it feels better! Looking forward to seeing some of your recipes! :stir:

Mars, no my scale doesn't give body composition. That'd sure be nice though! :goodscale: You are still under 170, even if you're having a delayed reaction, so that's great! :carrot:

Rennie, if you know a plan isn't working for you, definitely keep searching to find one that will. I want to see you succeed! Yay on losing a lb! Of course, I'd rather it be accompanied by healthy eating, not frenzied eating!

PrairieQueen, I'm sorry to hear you are having problems with TOM and "plumbing." I'd tell you to try the Smooth Move tea, but you might want to save it for the weekend when you can get to the bathroom at will. I know teaching doesn't allow you that freedom. I do hope TOM leaves you soon! :crossed:

Hello, all. I'm wondering if I can hang out here for a while with you all for some support?

I'm doing a 2 week (at least) phase 1 fat flush diet. Pretty strict protocol but I can do lots of veggies. I always feel like 2 weeks will never end when I'm on it. LOL

mars735 10-14-2015 06:45 AM

:welcome3: Kristen!

Jacqui Your weight looks great, even with the clothes :yay:

Rennie Yay on a pound down! :cheer:

I had a good day until I got home. Hunger & then runaway train of nervous eating.

Jacqui I did drink a half cup of Smooth Moves last night (didn't want to chance an unpleasant day today). It worked somewhat without any ill effects this morning.....wished I would have had the whole cup. I may have another half cup tonight if things don't move along. I keep trying to figure out what I'm doing differently that is causing this. The only thing is that I ran out of my fish oil tabs a few days before the last episode and have yet to buy more (been taking them for 18 months religiously). I don't know if this could cause my probs, but I'm stopping to get a refill after work!

Yesterdays dinner ended up being 6 grilled wings and some of hubs' pub fries. I brought the other wings and more pub fries home for my lunch today but felt guilty about it. So, I'm having an organic chicken/cheese burrito with 300 calories instead.

SeeMyFeet 10-14-2015 11:05 AM

Checking in, though I don't want to...nothing personal to you all, but I'm been having something of a depressive situation (crisis seemed too strong a word). More bad stuff going on at work, a visit from DD, eating the wrong thing and weight gain. The DD visit was nice, but sad...her first visit home from college. I miss her, and the feeling is not reciprocal, which is normal, but still leaves a hole in my heart. I made some homemade apple pie for her, and had me some as well, so now I'll be paying for that (and the banana bread) for the next two weeks. Annnnnd I didn't make time to go to the gym.....errr

On a more positive note, I fought a moment of royal effitness this morning--returned the box of cheerios to the cabinet and made eggs for breakfast. I'm feeling the urge to start a super strict regimen so I can get back to where I was....but mostly feeling down....too many holes to climb up.....

LOL, never thought I'd hear anyone say that! LOL

Rennie, we NEVER eat food from a convenience store. I have in the past. There was a mini-mart next door to work that had hot dogs $2/$1 but my lunch was at 11AM and they never had them ready in time. They cooked them for the lunch crowd at noon. It was even cheaper to bring them from home and heat them up. DH says he won't "eat food that comes from a gas station." Same with fast food. He eats it in an emergency, but prefers to sit at a table and be served.

SeeMyFeet, you are not alone. It is a rare child who comes home from college because he misses his mother, especially boys. They miss their friends, or need laundry done, or money, or food or some such thing. But when they get older, they seem to appreciate their mother more. {{{hugs}}}

I love Cheerios, but I love eggs more, so I never have a problem having a low carb breakfast. It's the rest of the day that screws me up.

Jacqui, there's a big difference between a sweet potato and a pumpkin donut!! No fiber in that donut. Plus, I am eating only a very small portion and eating it at a meal that contains protein, like they tell us to.

I don't think the every-day exerciser gains enough muscle mass to make a difference on the scale. Especially women, and except for body builders, who usually take supplements to help increase their muscle mass. We are just not genetically programmed that way. But that's just my opinion.

PrairieQueen, hope everything "comes out" ok! LOL

Welcome Kristen! Your before/after pics look great! How did you achieve your initial weight loss? I have a hard time doing any plan for 10 days.

Mars, what brand of scale do you have? My main scale is a balance beam scale, but for some reason, DH has been buying me scales from Goodwill. Wonder what message he's trying to send? LOL I don't take offense at it. He knows I want to lose and is truly trying to be helpful. They only cost a couple dollar at Goodwill, and he has bought 3 in the past few months. One just gives weight, one gives weight and fat, and one of them registers water weight and body composition. I wanted a digital scale because I was going to do one of those online bets, and you have to have a digital scale for that. Never did it though. Didn't trust committing to the initial cash outlay.

WildBlue, sorry to hear you wrenched your shoulder. I used to have tendonitis in my shoulder but physical therapy got rid of it. I still get a twinge now and then. Now I have tendonitis in the elbow of the other arm. I am contemplating PT for that, also, since it worked so well for the shoulder. Mine was from repetitive movement. Not sure what's going on with the elbow.
