  • Carol Sue, uh-oh! I hope you get them worked out soon! Computers can be so wonderful and so frustrating!

Rennie, I am so sorry if I upset you. I truly did not mean to! Please come back and post with us! I miss you!
  • Jac, I have one cup of coffee a day with breakfast, then I will have a cup of Oblong tea or Green tea in the afternoon, than water throughout the day. Just like everyone else, I have a problem getting in enough water. I very rarely drink soda, if I do it is regular soda, but I think the last time I had one was over a month ago. I do have a beer on the weekends or a bourbon, after all a women has to relax!

I just really want a lifestyle eating that teaches me to make good choices without thinking, but still not avoid things, because that will lead to binging to me. I keep telling my self to take it slow.

I also do not weigh myself daily, maybe weekly, but I know how I feel and that means more to me than numbers.
  • Oh there is so much good stuff to read! thanks everyone for keeping this an active thread. I am going to work my way back through to the first thread. Meanwhile, apologies for skimming and missing things.
Jacqui hope you are continuing to get back to normal--wonderful about the Y membership. It sounds like a good investment -- fun AND healthy.

Well, you found out for yourself about what a Quest bar is! The siren song of low carb dieters. Many of us are triggered by them. I don't really love the chewy texture, mostly the sweetness. The only time I even allow them is when I am in danger of diving into full on fast carb sweets. Good on you for recognizing their potential to derail.

Re Mio and artificial sweeteners in general, my goose is cooked I'm afraid. I've consumed so much saccharin, aspartame, sucralose, you name it. It's ironic because I am fanatic about choosing non-processed, local, organic produce & meat, etc. When I did my most recent weight loss, I decided the worse risk was to continue with my then eating habits and weight, so just gave myself a pass on worryng about food additives, sweeteners, etc. After a while, in a yoyoing maintenance, I realized almost 2 yrs had passed & I was still going through almost 2 bottles of Mio/week in addition to the packets of protein, shakes, dressing. I'm weaning off it now.

Jacqui If you're thinking of getting off Mio, here's what worked for me: 1.making it more and more dilute. 2. Try substituting a nice herbal tea, cold. You can dilute the tea quite a bit and it will still taste good. I use 2 teabags to get 2 quarts of tea, and it could easily be diluted more. I do add a few drops of GNC stevia, but am ok if I forget the sweetener. Yogi brand has a lot of nice flavors. Republic of Tea, also.

Hi Chickadee, Wow you have some nice things on your menu! What is mock oatmeal? It sounds good! Hope you enjoyed DH's chicken salad. Do you both eat the same things?
PS Do you get nuthatches along with your chickadees?

Carol Sue Hope your stomach AND your computer are both back to smooth functioning asap! Sending :
  • Chickadeee, "I just really want a lifestyle eating that teaches me to make good choices without thinking...I know how I feel and that means more to me than numbers." What a great attitude and an awesome reminder that health really is the most important thing! You continue to inspire me!

Mars, thank you for the tea idea! Although I am leaning heavily on my Mio water right now (hoping I can give up my Diet Dr. Pepper for good this time ), I know I will reach the point when I want to wean myself off it like you have. All that artificial sweetener each day just can't be healthy. I do try to use Mio Fit over regular Mio (although I do like the flavor watermelon strawberry and I haven't found it in Mio Fit) because at least then I'm getting a few vitamins with it. But when I am mentally ready, I'm going to give that tea switch-over a try! Thank you!
  • Woohoo! I'm back down to last week's low!

So today I start a new regimen of vitamins. My DH has been using GNC vitamins for a couple of months now and he seems to have so much more energy! I bought two products at GNC yesterday: Women's Ultra Mega Energy & Metabolism Vitapak and Natural 5-HTP. The vitapak contains a whole array of the usual vitamins and minerals, along with green tea complex, L-carnitine, fish oil, and something they call Burn 60, which is a combination of grape, ginger, guarana, dill, and black tea leaf, seed, and root extracts. The 5-HTP is supposed to help with a calm and relaxed mood (I suffer anxiety and depression at times) and a good night's sleep. I'm a little concerned that it says it also helps with appetite control since I'm not overly hungry on this diet (I don't want to eat less because I have reactive hypoglycemia and need to eat. I just want to eat better!), but I think it means that because it has a calming effect, it helps with stress eating. I hope these two products will contribute with my overall good health and well-being!

    Things to do:
    Back on diet, CHECK!
    Exercising at Y, CHECK!
    Taking my vitamins, CHECK!
    Teeth fixed, CHECK!
Eyes checked, I'm not a fan of doctors so this one may take a while, lol!

  • Morning All!
Jacqui Yay for getting back to your low! Sounds like you are recovering nicely! I'm interested to hear how the supplements work out.

I'm down another .2 to 166.8 and that's after feeling very indulgent yesterday, grazing on whatever was around. Fortunately what was around was just chicken. Losing a little without feeling any hunger at all is WONDERFUL!

    Yesterday:
B omelet with canned tomato & tapenade, protein shake
L chicken breast & avocado on shredded cabbage, evoo
S soy nuts, coffee whey shake
D chicken, with skin, green salad & evoo, mushrooms
    S more chicken,

Today will be about the same but I'm out of avocado. The challenge will be not to fall into end of the week "I deserve a food treat" thinking. There is a pizza shop right near the parking lot at work. Maybe I'd better stop at the store & arm myself with an avocado!

    Have a great day everyone!
  • I am on my tablet which I hate. Did fairly well yesterday At bedtime I took a whole diabetes pill when I meant to take 1/2 Had to eat carbs to avoid hypo during night Had 2 crackers /cream cheese.

    B eggs
    L lettuce wrap/ham salad
    D hot sausage/onions/sauce
    S imitation crab legs
    S crackers/cream cheese

It just hit me that I won't be able to update my fitbit!!! Have to get this fixed pronto It seems like a big problem. DH wants to buy new pc. We are probably due

I want rennie back too. Rennie, I need you!
  • Carol Sue So glad you are back online, even if it's touch screen mode! On my way to work early to buy me an avocado. Have a great day everyone!
  • Mars, wow! I just realized you've lost over 77 lbs! That is AMAZING! And you are still going strong! Simply wonderful! Your menu looks great! And yes, stop and get that avocado, lol! I'll be sure to let you know how the supplements work! I'm hoping for the best!

Carol Sue, I hope you get a nice, new computer! I've had to resort to my tablet a time or two and it's definitely no fun, but good for you for thinking of it and coming to post! Your menu looks fantastic, even the crackers and cream cheese under the circumstances! I'm so sorry you have to deal with this dreadful disease. Almost my entire family has been affected by insulin issues. I have 6 siblings and 2 children, and in my family my sister, my daughter, and I have reactive hypoglycemia. My daughter's is so constant that she has to eat a slow-carb diet whether she wants to or not! She's in danger of passing out every day from low blood sugar if she doesn't eat right. Two of my brothers have type 2 diabetes. My mother, 2 brothers, and my son have type 1 diabetes (my mother and oldest brother passed away from complications). My sister's son also has type 1 diabetes. Needless to say, being on a slow-carb diet is the best thing for me! I can just feel type 2 diabetes nipping at my heels! I am so glad that you and I both are resolved to eating better now!
  • Computer is in the shop. For $100 it will be back but all my data is gone. My fault for not doing backup.

I have read that reactive hypo is a precurser to type 2 diabetes. Ihave only had 1hypo since diagnosis in 2008.

    B. Eggs sausage
    L. Sauteed cabbage, onion, garlic, kale, collards, spinach. Yummy
    S. 2 tsp sunflower kernels

  • Just finished my lunch, with half of the ginormous avocado in my salad. I am so glad I did that. The other half will be with dinner, when I'll be looking for that little treat. I usually go to a store 20 minutes from home just to get the small 3oz avos, so this big one is something new. Once I cut one, I have a really hard time forgetting about the remainder until I've eaten it!

Bummer about losing your data Carol Sue. I hope there was nothing irreplaceable.

Jacqui Thank-you! When I finished my big diet, I had lost about 107 lbs, but that was too low. I loved seeing all the problem areas vanish--I actually had slim legs all the way up, lol. I had great support from my co-workers, many of whom were doing the same plan. I only stumbled across 3FC when I googled 'hair loss after dieting'. My hair fell out bigtime after phasing off, and I developed dry eye, imo, from 7 months of almost no fat.

I got rid of all my big clothes. My nice new wardrobe is mostly too small now but if I can get even 10 lbs off, most items will fit.

My gut feeling (pun intended!) is that Slow Carb along with the wonderful support on this thread is going to help me hugely. Both things--good fit of plan & support are the keys to success. Can't thank-you you all enough!

    Back to work
  • Mars, I have questions about avacados. When I eat them I eat the whole thing because I can't keep them from turning brown. If I eat them every day I get tired of them. When I buy them they are too hard to eat I have to let them sit for a day or two..I have one I bought two days ago and should buy another today so it will be soft a couple days after the first one. Can you eat them when they are hard?

We are going out for dinner I will get a baked fish sandwich without the bun. Don't know what I will get with it. I would like a coors light.!!
  • Carol Sue, I'm sorry to hear that you are going to lose all the data on your computer. That reminds me that I need to back mine up again! I'd die if I lost it all! All my genealogy information is on my computer! It's great that it can be fixed for $100 though! Your diet sure looks great today! I hope you resist the Coors Light, lol! That sounds like me with Redd's Apple Ale! And yes, I had heard that some research supports the idea that hypoglycemia precedes diabetes. That's why I have to keep my diet in order! My daughter does too, although she doesn't have much choice! My sister is a little more difficult. She's a vegetarian, and she eats way too many carbs!

Mars, oh my! Your low-fat diet made your hair fall out?! That's terrible! Has it recovered now? How nice that you'll soon be back into your "skinny clothes"!
  • Now I'm on the old laptop..better than the tablet, but not much. Haven't heard back from the pc guy so he might not be able to get it running. We have been looking around for a new one but didn't want to be pushed into a hasty decision.

I ordered a diet pepsi but did has a sip of DH's Coors. I was going to eat some veggies when I got home since I didn't order anything with my fish but I was not hungry and actually forgot about it. Don't want to eat them now as I think not eating at night is really helping me.

Jacqui, how do you back up your computer? I save some files on a jump drive but don't really know how to do a full backup. Not very computer savvy. Someone recommended getting an external hard drive, but I wouldn't know what to do with it. I really don't want this to happen again. It's the second or third time it's happened to me.

I really love that no matter how many times a day I come to this thread there are posts to read and replies to make. We are really gabby, and that's a good thing!!
  • Carol Sue, we are indeed a gabby bunch, lol, and it is a good thing! I know I'm gabby, which is really funny since I am rather quiet in real life. My DH is a social butterfly, but I am more reserved. I was a teacher by profession, though, so I'm quite capable of talking a lot, as you can see, lol! To back up my computer, I use rewritable CD's (RW CD's, not RW DVD's). You can buy them at any store like Target or Walmart. I buy a set of them, because it does take a few. Then I go to my Start menu, then Control Panel, then Backup and Restore, and under Backup, it will have a link that says "Set up backup." Click that, then click DVD RW Drive (D). (I know it says DVD but DVD's didn't work. It wouldn't copy to them. I had to return them and go buy CD's.) Then hit Next and just follow the instructions. Have a sharpie ready to write what it tells you on the CD's. This probably isn't the most efficient way because I go through a lot of RW CD's. Probably a thumb/zip drive would be better, but I've just never used one, so this is how I do it!
