  • rho1640 - I understand. I would suggest using your upper body for some cardio then until you can get a bike. Also, bikes are cheap at yardsales and flea markets - lots of old homeless bikes around. I have the heel spurs - pretty bad, they considered surgery, but I manage to tolerate so that got dropped. My secret - I nearly live in crocs. Feet almost never hurt in them. I'm a crocs customer for life. I'll be wearing them when I'm old and they'll be the old lady shoes style by then I bet.

Today was good, extra energy again - Yay low carb - that and I have no tv until Saturday. So, no sitting about for me. Just to internet for a few.

Tomorrow is a job interview - big deal to me. Then hopefully things will start progressing better stress wise.
  • Kel that's a great idea - I need to pick up my arm work again anyway (I broke my shoulder in 3 places and had 2 operations then a few years later broke the same arm just above the elbow into four different crunchy pieces a spiral fracture - going in to vote and they actually brought me a paper ballot as I am laying there waiting for the ambulance with blood running down my face because I hit the brick wall on my way down with my face too - a determined poll place for sure ). I've also been trying to use my Wii dance programs - but have been a bit sporadic with it lately since the house has been way too hot (no air conditioning) - over 95 with fans going ... Today is cloudy and supposed to rain it feels wonderful!

I need to run into the village today but am dreading it - summer in a tourist area is a nightmare for parking and line waiting ...

Sending lots of good thoughts you way for the job interview and stress reduction!
  • Hey rho, glad I helped you! I got worried when I started to read your arm tragedy that I'd have to suggest toe wiggling or stomach sucking in for exercise! Maybe head bobbing. LOL. I'm thinking exercise for me sometime this fall. I need to drop a bit first, got a knee that swells on me at this weight.

Interview went better than I expected. Decision likely Monday. Stress was okay today. Energy, slightly lower, but still better than my norm. I'm so glad. Maybe my fatigue problem is somewhat carb related! I don't wake up all perky, never have, never will. I'm a natural hibernating sleeper. I can sleep and sleep and sleep. So I get up like a spring bear, grumpy and slow. But by the time I'm at work I'm perkin. That's turning out to be quite helpful.

Money is still too tight, so had DH coupon organizing with me tonight. It's going to take that, plus bargain basement deals to get us through the next couple weeks. OR, we just eat out of freezer - not a bad idea, but I'd sure like a few extras to go with it.
  • You would have real been laughing at my toe answer - a couple of weeks ago I dropped a heavy metal gun case on my big toe (right on the joint) and I'm 99% sure I broke it - yes my mother always said I'm an accident waiting to happen hehehe

One thing I'm getting back into (learned when hubby was on strikes that went on forever) was each week I get at least an extra can of chicken, tuna, vegs, even Spam, and Corned Beef...peanut butter etc. I have a decent pantry set up but with all this threat of no SS etc I think I will work on adding to it and maybe next weekend while hubster is away I will organize the pantry again. Also if I see frozen mixed vegetables on a good sale I will get a few bags and dehydrate them and store in Mason Jars. Heck maybe I will look up an old recipe for Jerky and do some of that - it never lasted long though lol. Some extra coffee and tea and sweeteners etc that I put in foodsaver bags - like I say I did and will do it all little by little but it is surprising how it does add up to a nice buffer to go with freezer food (threats of hurricanes and storms here so I don't just rely on freezer and why vegs get dehydrated) the mixed vege are higher in carbs but the way I look at that is I would use in a soup or stew that would stretch it and it's vege not white bread or sugar etc. I'm also going to get some seeds for next year and try hay bale planting (hey getting older I don't bend as well as I used to OR get up off the ground as well hehehe)

Hope that didn't sound preachy - just experience and solutions I came up with that helped us. And I learned it from family who learned an earlier version during the depression. And like I said I'm starting it up again since I am concerned about what is going on worldwide financially .... I never had what the people on extreme coupons had set aside (concentrated more on food personally) but like I said a good pantry (which is a closet that was meant to be a linen closet)
  • I've actually been couponing since the beginning of the year - even when not low carb. I have a good stash of personal items - in fact we've practically been coasting a few weeks on the stockpile of personal and food items. I'm glad I kept ahead. In light of my struggle I have started a budget atkins thread today. Thought I couldn't be alone in this.

I have a dehydrator, great big one, got for cheap at flea market. Works, but no directions! I would love to do some stuff with it. Any tips?

Today is a good day so far. I've gotten up, coffee'd and sat. Time to move and do, see ya around the site!
  • OH, and I don't have the extreme show thing going either. I have a good stash on some things like laundry soap, shower gel, paper towels from good bargain finds. No room set aside in the house.

I did get a great deal on atkins shakes a few weeks ago (before returning to LC), and I bought as many as I could afford - and they have helped a lot lately when in a rush. I got them at walgreens b1g1, and most of the ones I got were 6 pk bonus pks. The original price was a little higher, but the price per four pack after the bonus pks and b1g1 were the best price I've ever gotten on them. We eat real food more, but they are sure nice in a pinch.

Editing to add there is a yahoo dehydrator group that is good - I haven't been there lately so I don't know how active it is now worth looking into maybe..

Ohh have to look for the budget thread I'll like that one for sure.

What do you want to dehydrate if I don't know I can look it up - does it have temps on it or just number settings.... It's been awhile so I will have to look up to remind me for sure..

Started this awhile ago then had to look for a room for hubby for the weekend in CT. And of course lost everything I wrote ... So a way shortened version...

How are the shakes - I would like to have something for those times - do they need to be cold to be palatable? it would be great to have something for those times ..
  • The wild berry day break ones are best. The chocolate and vanilla ones sometimes separate even though they are far from the exp date. I which them through my personal blender - usually with a little cream, scoop of protein powder (I know, double doing, but then I make it to lunch), and a tbs inst coffee. Sometimes I pitch in an ice cube or two for slushy. I know it's adding work to a convenience shake but it's soooo good that way. I usually put all but ice in the blender the night before - then in the am just ice, whiizzzz and drink.

The wild berry I just drink up. Cold is best. The EAS makes a low carb shake that's pretty good too - just beware, some are LC some are not.

I'll have to drag out the dehydrator to tell you. I've never tried it. What's an easy starter item to dehydrate that's LC? Give me a couple options and I'll start there if you can.
  • Lemon is good - slice and dehydrate then you can out in tea or powder it to add a little to recipes (it just freshens them up I think) mushrooms sliced can be added toto things or powdered for flavor again, oh oranges too Zucchini - I've done in sticks and added to soups and stews and then also broken them up more and put in meatloaf or meatballs ....

Does your dehydrator show temperatures and does it have a timer - that might help me tell you times etc. And what brand...

I've done frozen mixed vegetables in the past and non low carb but you can take frozen hash browns and do them too...

I store most things in Mason jars so it is easy access to them ...
  • I'm going to have to dig it out and check it out. I love lemons, and there's always an abundance of zucchini - and we have a couple lc zucchini recipes that we could eat year round that use shredded. Sounds like a project in my future.

I'll drag it out soon and let you know if it has temp settings.
  • Hello everyone, well I’m about to embark the low carbing as well. Last fall I had gone on the Ideal Protein and was quite successful but stopped as it was just way to expensive....but the problem is...
I pretty much gained all the weight back, I’m very bummed out as I feel like I’m completely starting over yet again!! so here I am....let's get this done already!!
  • meandmax - I wish you well. I've never done IP, but there sure are a lot of 'em on her. I believe with any diet, you have to stick with what worked or you go back where the previous path led you.

Haven't broken out that dehydrator yet - but I will. Might pick up lemons this weekend!
  • I don't know the IP plan myself but like Kel said I know there are others here on it - while we can't help with specifics we can help with motivation and encouragement Welcome...
  • Hi, all!

I am new to this thread, but have been low carbing my way for awhile.

rho1640, hope your tendonitis is improving. If you haven't found an exercise bike yet, try craigslist. Start in the free section first, before you check the regular section.

There was one IP supplement, though slightly pricey, that sounded worth trying listed on another website. Is there one supplement that the IPers here think really helps their success? (On the other site, I wasn't sure whether it was just promotional hype, because they were trying to sell products.)
