I LOVE almonds. So therefore, I need to keep away from them - far away . I KNOW they're incredibly healthy, but they're also incredibly caloric. I'm just too much of a calorie snob to eat them AND of course, I tend to OVEReat them. I used to put them in salads, slivered and roasted. It added a nice little crunch and taste. I don't know, maybe one day........ But for now, I think I need to stay away. How about you guys? What's your take on the almond?
I love almonds. In fact I love most all nuts, including peanuts and cashews and pistachios and hazelnuts. But, like you, I'm a calorie snob and don't eat them very often for that reason. Some people plan to have them as a snack and just count the calories. I've never really done that. Usually anytime I eat nuts of any kind, it's a "drive-by" type of thing. I'll grab a few that may be sitting out in a mix or whatever and be on my way, munching just those few and staying away from the nut dish after that.
I WILL sometimes sprinkle a few slices of almonds on salads or throw some slivered almonds into a dish I'm baking (I particularly like them tossed onto baked fish) but it's rare when I do that. It's really hard for me to get enough of the good fats because so many of the things I love that contain the good fats (like nuts and avocado) are too high in calories.

Reason: typo fix!
Almonds... I used to eat a LOT of them... In fact, I love all nuts... So for awhile they had to be hidden away. Now I can have them around, but I have to count them out if I eat them, so I can put them honestly into my tracker. If I start to go overboard with them... they will have to leave the house again.
I like almonds, but I can't say they are my favorite nut. I really like pecans and pistachios. I do have to say though, almonds are probably the one nut that taste good raw and unsalted.
I wish I could eat them. They helped reduce my cholesterol few year ago. I was in a clinical study for a cholesterol med. I got booted out because my numbers dropped. I was eating a couple of ounces of almonds per day. It was hard to stop at that but I did.
I really wish I could eat nuts. Eating those almonds caught up with me. Even though I chewed chewed and chewed, it got me. I had a major diverticulits flair up in March. Enough so that my dr. restricted my diet more than ever. I will never be able to have them again. Won't be able to have any seeds (I seed our fresh tomatoes before I eat them) or corn. I love fresh corn on the cob in Sept and early Oct. Can't have 'em. No popcorn as well.
Walnuts are really my biggest thing but I posted in a thread somewhere not long ago that I wish peanut butter was a zero calorie food, then I'd be in heaven.
Sadly that they are so high in calories and so easy to overeat on...
I am getting mixed info. How are they best for your health, roasted or not?

Safety
The commercial roasting process of nuts is a form of deep-frying, usually in saturated fat, such as coconut oil and palm kernel oil. Deep-fried foods have been linked to high levels of LDL (the bad form of cholesterol) and to thickening of larger artery walls.
Then it says for nutrients it says roasted. grrrr......
You can find them dry roasted and you can roast them yourself as well. I think they are just saying look at the labels when you buy to see if oil is added.
i have a bag of raw almonds from costco in the refrigerator along with walnuts. they don't really call out to me but cashews and peanut butter - oh my gosh!! danger...danger!
i sometimes go with soynuts on salad. they might be lower in calories than almonds, certainly you get more for a tablespoon serving since they're so small, they're crunchy, plus soy = good for ya!
