Generally, yes... I think up to a point, though. At a certain point your decreased food intake will sort of be status quo for an inactive metabolism. Do you mean you will be unable to exercise entirely or you will just be doing a decreased amount? Any exercise is good exercise, maybe you can still do something like some light strength exercises with a 3 or 5 lb handweight? Anything to build up the muscle and increase the metabolism will be helpful, especially since when you diet without exercise you end up losing muscle mass as well as fat.

So, in a nutshell, yes, but it's better if you can get some exercise in there.

I definitely agree with what Suite said - some exercise is better than none. However, you didn't mention if this was a chronic illness or just a bout with a cold/flu.

If you do have some sort of chronic illness, I would definitely speak with your doctor to see if you can set up an exercise program for your needs. If it's just an acute illness, take a couple of days off, get some rest, drink your fluids, and when you're feeling better go right back to your normal exercise.

I would think that any type of movement would be better than nothing. My family was laughing at me the other day when I was vacuuming. Instead of just walking the vacuum around, I was doing lunges when I pushed the vacuum away from me... lol. My daughter came into the living room to talk to me and had to leave because I apparently looked to funny.

When you lose weight without exercising, you lose muscle as well as fat so you can end up thin but still unhealthy because your body fat it still high. Do whatever you can while you are incapacitated then work back up to your regular exercise.

I have been able to lose without exercise. But, I am noticing that my fat is hanging especially in my thighs. I don't really want to have surgery to remove fat. I am not able to exercise - I can't walk because of my knees and I have a lot of pain if I use the stationary bike. I have been using hand weights and building up my arms and upper body. I wish I could do some exercises. I would like to try swimming, but there is no place around here for me to swim laps.
Because of no exercising, I have some strange weight losses. Last week, I thought that I had gained weight or not lost at all. 2 days before my weigh in, it looked like I have gained 5 pounds. Then I went and I lost 4 pounds! Now, the scale looks like I have gained that back. I guess I have to stop weighing myself each day.
Thanks for listening to my rants and raves.
