Spreading Out Meals

There's a post sort of like this on the Core board and I thought I would see how you Flexers work it. I have a pretty erratic eating schedule when I'm at school, as it depends on my classes and what sort of work I am doing in between them.

How many hours do you generally go between eating a snack/meal? Do you base it just on how hungry you are or do you have a sort of routine?

shrinkinglizzy 05-10-2008 10:39 AM

I usually eat every three hours or so...

Paintfancy 05-10-2008 10:57 AM

I have a regular schedule I follow - usually. Life sometimes gets in the way and I have to alter my plans, but I normally can follow it.

freedomreins 05-10-2008 11:13 AM

What does your schedule roughly look like Paint? I am trying to get an idea of some changes I should maybe be making now that I am finished school for the year.

Lovely 05-10-2008 11:54 AM

I eat roughly every 2 - 3 hours.

Sometimes it's based on direct hungry, other times it's based on "Hrm. I should eat that snack now, because I'll be super hungry in an hour when I'm about to work out and I can't eat right before I go treadmilling." Life stuff :)

luvmyfam 05-10-2008 01:26 PM

I don't know! It's more of a "eat when I'm hungry" thing, I guess, or like Faerie said...eating when I know I should have something because I'll be hungry if I don't. I'd have to write it down to see for sure, but it probably changes each day. Worst thing for me is that even though I do eat breakfast (good thing), sometimes I don't eat it until 10:30 or 11.

Shannon1983 05-10-2008 01:35 PM

I dont have a schedule and maybe i should. I eat later in the AM for breakfast like 10:30 and then i have a late lunch around 2 and then dinner around 6 or 7. then i walk at 8 or 8:30 and then have alittle snack. and then if i have time i walk again. I wish i could make a schedule up with being on flex points i think that would hellp but i have a totally crazy life and right now a schedule is something i cant do.

I get up at 5:30am to work out. I have a 20oz bottle of water while I'm working out. By the time I'm finished working out/getting ready/driving into work It's 8am. I wanted to preface with my schedule so that you understood that there's a big time lapse between the time I wake up and the time I actually start eating.

9:30am Bowl of Sturms Whole Wheat Oatmeal with blueberries.
10:30am Apple
12pm Healthy Choice 4pt meal
3pm Yogurt with either Fiber One or strawberries in it.
8pm Dinner and dessert

I do probably chomp on a salad or a 1pt snack between the yogurt and dinner because that's a long time for me, but DH doesn't eat until late and I try to eat with him. I eat a lot of 1pt snacks throughout the day, that's probably why I get hungry quicker during the day than at night.

That being said, this is my weekday schedule. I vary with different foods on the weekends because let's face it, that food gets boring, LOL!

Thanks Paint! It's quite helpful to see that you eat often, as I know that generally makes sense, but when I'm on the go and not keeping track of time, sometimes I feel like, 'what, eat again? I just ate!' but it does keep hunger at bay. How do you manage four hours between waking up and eating? I'd be dead by then! lol Before WW, I was never a breakfast person, but now that I am getting up and eating breakfast within about 30 minutes of waking, I now open my eyes and am ready to eat, which is a big change from how my body used to work.

Thanks for your posts everyone! I hope others will share them too :) Do you find that getting up consistently at the same time every day helps you stay on track?

Paintfancy 05-10-2008 02:19 PM

The bottle of water while I'm working out helps with early hunger. As I'm driving to work, I drink coffee which helps to keep the hunger at bay until somewhere between 9 and 9:30am. For me, the key is being able to eat throughout the day. I have always been a big snacker/small meal eater. I just use to snack on candy/junk food all day vs. stuff my body needs.

Yes, I feel like having a consistent schedule aids me with consistent eating habits.

I had the "poor me" attitude this week. Lots of thinking errors about "Woe is me, I can't have this and I can't have that." Knowing that my food was already in the fridge waiting for me help a lot with the sporatic eating I would otherwise be doing.

staja 05-10-2008 05:26 PM

I try to eat every 2-3 hours as well. During the weekends, things don't work that well :)

On a work day:
6:30AM - wake up
7:00AM - hour commute
8:00AM - Special K and a yogurt
10:00AM - Fiber One bar
12:00PM - Smart One frozen meal, SF Jello
2:30PM - whole wheat pita and Laughing Cow cheese wedge
4:30PM - hour commute
5:45PM - 1-2 point snack
6:00PM - work out
7:30PM - dinner
9:15PM - dessert
10:30PM - sleep

suitejudyblueeyes 05-11-2008 10:57 AM

I try to eat max every 3 hours, just to keep myself from getting too hungry/tired. Sometimes I skip a mid-morning snack if I don't have anything good with me to eat.

Institches21 05-11-2008 07:57 PM

My day starts at 9:00pm Sun-Thurs, Sat and Sun I do alot of meal prep for my week ahead, like cutting veggies, and fruits, and if I don't have any muffins in the freezer I make those up. My hubby has my lunch all ready for me each day.

09:30 16 oz water, then 1-2oz protein
10:30 1-2 baked oatmeal muffin, or a banana, something quick
01:30 yogurt with fiber one or strawberries, or 4pts of healthty nuts
04:30 salad o/v, 4oz protein, spaghetti squash, g.beans or broc, choc pudd
07:00 fruit or some nuts, {if I didn't have them at 1st snack}
07:30 40mins of my exercise of choice
08:30 egg with veggies or a bowl of oatmeat made with skim milk
10:00 two wawsa crackers with 2% pepperjack cheese and 2-3 oz protein, or a bag of popcorn

kelijpa 05-16-2008 06:56 PM

I have a pretty regular schedule during the week
breakfast 7
breaktime 9:30 sometimes a piece of fruit
lunch 1130 sometimes a piece of fruit
break 2:15 sometimes a piece of fruit
supper by 5 usually

I bring 3 pieces of fruit with me everyday, I eat them when I get hungry, that's why I say sometimes, if I'm having a hungry day I might eat 2 pieces after my sandwich at lunch to feel full, or whatever. It helps to have some "flex"

weekends, I pretty much try and listen to my body more, but we do fall into a habit lots of times with a later lunch, it's kind of weird to adjust after being so tied to the clock during the week.

good luck :sunny:
