Question Imitation Crab

What do you think the points would be? I really love that stuff. Do you have any ideas for recipes?:

Thanks for your help,

I'm seeing about 1/2 a cup as 2 points (generically). But, if you buy some packaged stuff it'd be more specific with having nutritional info.

I love it, too! But I don't really do anything interesting with it. I just like to put some in a little bowl and eat it with cocktail sauce! Yum!

I love it, I eat it with wasabi and a little soy (like a piece of sushi just w/out rice)

Mmm, imitation crab!

Hm, my experience has shown me that no matter how much cheaper it is than real crab, you *cannot* put it in a soup. It's funny, if you actually examine it, the leg-style stuff is like a sheet of fake crab rolled very tightly. So when I put it in a soup it unrolled and I had ribbons of fake crab floating around! The chunk-style stuff might be made differently, and other brands might be too, but this was the stuff on sale

I agree with the others - just eat it with a dip/sauce! Mmm! Or chop it up and make a crab salad with it (like tuna) with celery and stuff.

I think the junk stuff is just the long leg rolls cut up. I know it's a lot more expensive, but real crab is healthier and lower in calories and carb-free.

Oooo I love this stuff. I usually eat it mixed in a bowl with 2 or 3 spoonfuls of ff miracle whip, and chopped celery, and put that on top of a garden salad. Either that or I have one of those smart one's meals and have it on the side to fill me up. I loved when I could have it in sushi, but of course, no sushi places where I live right now. And I do count it as 2 pts for half a cup, for my salad it's enough and worth it

Wasabi is japanese horseradish - it's green and it's HOT and it's YUMMY. Just a dab will do ya though!
I think most imitation crab is made with white fish - haddock, cod, whatever. So it is still low in cals. Be sure and check the nutrition label each time though, as I believe they can use whatever fish they can get for a particular manufacturing run so the nutritionals will vary.

I have used it in seafood lasagna. My family loves it. I guess real crab would taste better, but the first time I made it imitation was all I had on had. So that has what we have made it with each time. I also eat it on a garden salad. I just love this stuff!!!

I like my dad's description of wasabi the best: it will blow the back of your head off if you're not careful.

I *love* wasabi on sushi and will generally consume enough to kill a small horse

Here's a quick and easy recipe using imitation crab that I just love:

Primavera Seafood Skillet

1 cup matchstick-cut zucchini
1/4 cup chopped green onions
1/2 cup frozen corn
1 cup frozen sugar snap peas
1 small jar pimentos
2 T olive oil

1 1/2 cups milk
1/2 tsp. dried basil
1/4 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper

1 1/2 cups uncooked quick cooking rice
8 oz. pkg. imitation crabmeat
2 Tbls. Parmesan cheese

In large skillet, cook and stir zucchini, green onions, corn, pimentos, and sugar snap peas in olive oil for 4 minutes, or until tender crisp. Stir in milk, basil, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil, then stir in rice and crabmeat. Stir well. Remove from heat and cover skillet. Let stand 5 minutes or until all liquid is absorbed, stirring once. Sprinkle Parmesan and serve.

This is really good, but I don't have the nutrition info for this - can someone run it through the watchamacallit?

*Dumb question alert*
I'm soooo leery about food poisoning and stuff. When you buy the imitation crab at the supermarket, do you have to cook it, or can you just eat it out of the package on a garden salad? How do you store it in the fridge, and how long does it last?
Thanks, guys!

Chicky, I've just eaten it right out of package... but it may have said pre-cooked or something on it... it's been awhile to I don't remember. To store it ya just wrap it up and put it back in the fridge. I think most packages have a "good before" date on them.
