One of my wake-up calls to lose weight this time around was when I went to the doctor last year. When I had stepped on the scale, I cried out "Oh my God!" The scale read 165 (I didn't own a scale and the last time I had weighed myself was when I was in the high 140's). After seeing my horror, the nurse had felt sympathetic and recorded only 160 to try and make me feel better.
Well, I went for my yearly checkup today and happily, the scale read 122.
Even though I didn't join my gym until last January, that appointment in October of last year was what really opened my mind to the path I was going down. It's kind of nice to come back after a year and see how much better I've done for myself. It would have been so easy to just keep gaining and gaining.
Also, as an additional NSV, when I went to the doctor last time, I took a cab both ways (I work downtown). Today, I realized that the office really wasn't that far and I walked both ways. I was very tempted along the way as well, passing by a Dunkin' Donuts shop (I haven't had one of those in at least a year), but I just kept on walking.
