My entire life, I grew up in a big family. And by big, I don't meant just a lot of people. Two years ago I weighed in at 190 and was still the skinniest person in my family. My mom is the only other person who comes close to my size, so obviously the genes passed from her.
We always ate unhealthy growing up, despite my parents' attempts to mend the situation. We had salads every night with dinner, and drank a lot of milk, but our portion sizes of unhealthier foods like heavy sauces, red meats and simple carbs ended up causing some serious weight gain for all of us.
I always knew this was the problem and tried to not only fix it for myself but for my family. I introduced them to whole wheat pasta which they've reluctantly grown to enjoy, inspired my younger sister to start working out, and even helped my little brother quit smoking cigarettes. I try my hardest to inspire my family to be just a little healthier and for the most part it's been working!
But this rather long (sorry!) post is about something else. Living with them, my all-time favorite meal was my father's marinated london broil steak with potatoes and caesar salad. I'm hungry just thinking about it! He cooks the steak so perfectly and I would gorge myself on it every time he made it. Recently, I moved across the country to live with my husband while he's stationed in Texas. I've picked up my workouts and gotten much more serious about eating right since we moved. Today, I realized I haven't had ANY red meat in over two months! Nowadays, we eat chicken or turkey, if any meat at all!! I can only imagine the health benefits from doing this for my heart and everything else.
In my efforts to lose weight, I've changed my entire life. And I'm not going back!!
