Default walking!!

I walked and jogged 12.5 miles in 4 days!! so proud of myself. I used to LOVE jogging (i'm not fast enough to call it "running"!) and would do 4.5 miles per day at least 4 days a week, usually more. i forgot how much i love it! 3 pounds down this week and 3 more to go before i buy myself a piece of clothing. Not gonna let Easter get the best of me!

Holy crapola! I did a miles to Km conversion and was blown away! The most I ever walk in a day is 2.5 km and I find that long. I start feeling like the impact of foot to ground is jarring my brain. Good for you!

That is wonderful! I am so looking forward to the day when I can really take a walk again -- you know, one where I enjoy being outdoors enjoying the moment as opposed to wondering if my lungs will ever be able to fill up again! Reading what others have accomplished continues to give me the much needed motivation. THANKS!

Good for everybody. It is really nice to see this community. I started walking in the beginning to start a workout routine. Taught me a lot & made me knockdown the doubts...

started posting my daily distances on a different thread. should i move them here?? EVERYBODY can walk. I was using excuses like "i'm too overweight, I'll hurt myself" etc. then I decided to give it a shot. my sore knee is starting to feel better, i can feel my butt lifting. the weight is dropping.

Dear Betsey, you can get that feeling. It's worth striving for. Do as much as you can...then just a little bit more. You've lost 47 pounds!! Keep trying and you will soon know what it feels like!

What has always worked for me is having the same route. The BEST thing about walking or jogging is that you can see measurable improvement almost everytime you go. I have a park near my house that is 1.47 miles with a steep incline in one area. at first i would leasurely walk one lap. then i would set landmarks for myself. and decide i would speed walk from a particular tree to the start of a fence, then a little further. this is how i started years ago, and it is working for me again after stopping for a long time. after only 2 weeks, i jogged 1.47 miles and walked 1.47 miles!!! so looking forward to jogging the entire 2 laps, or at least jogging UP that incline instead of down!!!

an Ipod with music to your walking/jogging beat helps. I also use the same music. sometimes i walk a song, jog a song, etc.
yes, you will sweat, your muscles may get sore, it's hard to find the time, etc. but it's free, as easy as opening your front door, it's good for depression, your blood pressure, your digestion, your skin and many other things. don't forget to warm up and cool down (slow walks) and i always stretch after. gently and slowly. i'm finding myself again.

CQ680, you're right about starting out and just doing it every day. I go to the gym every day and am slowly building up my endurance. But I find that walking on a treadmill is just not the same as walking around outside. I think I need to do the morning gym routine and then take a walk outside in the afternoon -- even if it's just down to the end of our alley and back as a start. THANKS!!!

betsey, i would rather be outside than inside, even in bad weather. LOOK how close you are to 344!!! walking and running is a "mind thing" anybody who has the detrermination to lose 47 lbs, can walk the alley, and eventually past it. no matter how slow you go, or how short of a distance, you are still lapping every single person who is laying on the couch!!
