Default Water Consumption

I have been reading on here where others are drinking 100 oz+ of water daily. I asked my counselor when I started should I drink more than 64 oz. because I weigh over 200 lb and she told me 64 is good, too much water is bad. I am confused, I want to drink enough to help me get rid of the fat, what has your counselors told you?

I received the Protocol & Guidelines from the center when I signed up.. and it states ..

You must drink a minimum of 64oz (8-8oz glasses) of water each day. For ideal hydration we suggest:
*Additional 8oz for every 25lbs of excess weight
*Additional 8oz for every 15 minutes of strenuous exercise

I was averaging about 126oz each day but have backed down to about 115-120oz. I drink more water if I know I'm going to be in a stressful situation or around foods that might tempt me.

Hope this helps.

The guideline I was told was to take your weight and divide it in half. This is how many ounces of water a day you should be drinking. I have an app on my iPhone that tracks my water consumption and this is how it does it too.

I was going to start a thread about this too.

I drink my 64 minimum plus 8 for my extra weight and then an extra 32 for an hour of exercise.

That's a total of 104 oz. However I wake up two times a night to pee a moderate amount so I know this must be too much. I also quit drinking water at 7:30pm so it's not that I drink so late.

I have also on a few occasions not gotten all my water in (because I've been in a car or a busy shift) and noticed my weight was actually lowerthan if I drink the amount I'm supposed too.

I don't eat a lot of processed foods so I'm very low sodium. I was thinking of cutting back about 16oz. a day to see if it would let me sleep at night.

Anyone have an opinion on this?

Also, I occasionally drink 150oz of water just because my container is 50oz and I forget how often I fill it up and I just sometimes think it should help, but it doesn't make an appreciabe difference.
I weight daily but only "count" it twice a week.

I was given the same guidlines as Candy mentioned below which comes out to around 120-140 oz daily. . . I usually do 120 without any trouble. It should be noted that water is just about all I drink. I do usually drink 1-2 supplements (8 oz approximately) but try to have things to eat for the other 2 and I don't drink anything else. It's okay to drink other things, I just rarely do.

I drink about 130 oz per day. It keeps me from getting hungry and makes me feel better! I dont know if it is too much...some people say it is, but I feel fine.

Another thing my counselors stressed to me was to try to drink the same amount every day. If you drink about 120 ounces, do that everyday. If you go from drinking 120 ounces to one day and then 70 the next, your body goes into dehydration mode and you start retaining water. When it comes to water, our bodies are creatures of habit.

Oh, the iPhone app I use is "Water Your Body."

I agree with all those above. Since I've been losing weight, my water consumption was supposed to go down. I went from drinking 120 ounces to 75.

Little edie - do you take B6? I was taking B6 at lunchtime and noticed I was up a couple times during the night. I now take it in the morning and don't want up anymore to go... unless I've really drank TOO much then I'm up once or twice.

I usually have all my water intake done by 6pm... except for 8oz, which I use to take my night time meds.

Well, that would put me at drinking about 110 oz. a day, so I'll up it a little, maybe that will help keep me feeling more full too. So far no nite trips to the potty, but an a.m. mad dash does happen! lol It's really hot here now so drinking more water isn't a problem. Thanks for all the replies and info!

Not only does our body need that water so it doesn't go into dehydration mode we also need it because of the high amounts of protein we are on...if we don't drink enough water we have a HIGH possibility of getting kidney stones!

If anything I gain weight when I don't upkeep my water, I do pee a lot during the day but my last water bottle is around 7ish (dinner time). I do wake up and pee around midnight or 1ish, but if I don't then I'm up by 4am peeing what my body has held in.

Overall my average intake is 100oz - and then 126 if I exercise for an hour.

candi-

I take a multivitamin which contains B6.

I'm sure part of the problem is that I'm near 50 years of age (cringing as I typed that) and had my kids later than most women. My poor bladder is probably saying "enough is enough."

On the plus side, I've redecorated both my bathrooms since doing MRC.
