Here's my question--for those of you with a family, how do you handle meals? I have two boys, 11 and 13, and am not excited about cooking two separate dinners.

Well I don't cook two separate meals. For example I made the turkey loaf with trick potatoes last night. My boyfriend skipped right over the potatoes - said if he was still hungry he'd eat a bowl of cereal.

When the teenagers came in for spring break - they pretty much ate what we ate or just had a bowl of cereal as well. My daughter is pretty picky, so she cooked an extra side dish to go with most dinners we had.

One night we had chicken fajitas, she didn't want the veggies so she cooked a pot of macaroni & cheese for the toddler & her boyfriend. Another night I hit it right on the nose making an enchilada casserole. They all loved it.

An enchilada casserole sounds really good. Is that recipe in the book?

If I don't use a supplement in the recipie, I feed my family the same thing I eat and sometimes add a side of rice, pasta, corn or something like that for them but this is primarily because I am trying to use these up. So far my family has loved it! They like that I am cooking more and will eat most fruits and veggies. They are always allowed to have fruits and veggies if they are still hungry.

If they want something completely off plan (like pizza) occasionally I will get this for them and then make something special for myself (maybe steak or Halibut).

If I do use a supplement I will cook the same protein for all of us and then take out my portion and make it in a smaller pan/pot and cook theirs in the already dirty pot. (I don't like doing dishes). We will usually eat the same veggies as well.

This one I used was not in the book - it was a new McCormick's Recipe Inspirations Quesadilla Casserole seasoning package - modified to fit the MRC plan I'm on. For example it called for 6 tortillas and 2 cups of cheese LMAO - yeah that wasn't happening!! I also switched out the beef and used turkey.

Ingredients

* 2 tsp Chili Powder (in pack)
* 1 tsp Ground Cumin (in pack)
* 1 tsp Minced Garlic (in pack)
* 1/2 tsp Spices, Oregano Leaves (in pack)
* 1/2 tsp Spices, Crushed Red Peppers (in pack)
* 1 lb Turkey
* 1/2 cup Chopped Onions
* 16 oz Tomato Sauce (used Hunt's no salt added)
* 15 oz Black Beans (drained & rinsed)
* 4 1/2 oz Chopped Green Chiles (its a small can)
* 2 Tortillas (large 100 calorie cut up into 4)
* 2 oz Cheese, Cheddar

1. Saute onions, add turkey to brown in large skillet on med-high heat; drain. Add tomato sauce, beans, and green chilies; mix well. Stir in all of the spices except Red Pepper. Bring to boil. Reduce heat to low; simmer 5 minutes. Add Red Pepper to taste, if desired (I desired it!).

2. Spread 1/2 cup of the turkey mixture on bottom of 8x8 baking dish sprayed with no-stick cooking spray. Top with 1 of the tortillas (I cut it in 4 so i could make it cover the entire dish with 1 tortilla). Layer with 1/2 of the remaining turkey mixture. Repeat with remaining tortilla, turkey mixture and top with cheese.

3. Bake at 350F for 15 minutes or until heated through. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.

Since you are getting starch from the tortilla & beans - and protein from the meat & cheese I only served myself a 6 oz portion. If you are concerned with the starch being more than 40 calories - I would cut out either the tortilla or the beans - the mixture was quite yummy w/o the tortilla or cheese. We had a veggie side with this.

Talking Think so

I started MRC on Jan 8 and have lost 33 lbs. I started off very skeptical and have been pleased knowing that I've stayed mostly on plan, have had some slip ups, but have still managed to lose the weight. It's been over 6 years since I've had true weight loss, and I only have about 10 more to go before I was the weight I was when I met my husband. I am really trying hard to stick exactly to plan. I am excited to see more results.

I'm planning on going in for a consultation next week.

I was under the impression that the plan was a low calorie plan that required you to drink shakes for meal replacements and you only ate one meal per day and very limited at that. I think this refers to the most restrictive plan...the one that uses HCG?

I've done virtually every plan out there...Atkins, South Beach, Paleo, 17 Day Diet....they're all the same really, with just a few things changed here and there. Was just wondering if MRC was really any different other than going in to get weighed and having that accountability. I've done those too....and the thought of going in to be weighed and asked questions why the diet isn't working always made me stick to the diet more!

From my personal and current experience, this is NOT TRUE regarding the "other" MRC plan. You eat 3 wonderful meals daily on it also, as well as 3 hns per day (one being a creamy), so your information is FALSE! --Joy2MeNu

my sister in law did that plan that we are not to talk about and was a raving b**** while on it. lost the wt. but now 6 mths later gained it all back and more and she looks awful and was back and forth to the doctor. it's awful and not worth your health. seriously, the MRC meta slim plan or their other food plans work and are sensible. the posts on these boards have really helped me during challenges. the best part is the sharing of recipes, encouragement and motivation. the 3 fat chicks rock and thankful they started this website!!! :-)

MRC is a low-calorie (depending on your food choices, approximately 800-1100 per day), low-carb, low-fat, low-sodium plan. It is similar to many other plans .... and like any other plan out there, it works perfectly well if you do it. Food choices are pretty restrictive and it is pricey. Go for the free consult and see what you think.

You do have to buy their HNS (high nutrient supplement, which is a protein drink, previously described in an earlier post). They suggest you take a multi-vitamin and an EFA (fish oil, flax oil, etc.). They will also try to sell you many, many, many other supplements. I've seen some people take up to 30 or more pills per day -- seriously. Many people don't take any of those, some do, their effectiveness is debatable. The consultants make commission on sales, and some centers try to sell very aggressively, while others don't. Know that you can request specific consultants, so if you find one you are comfortable with, ask for him/her specifically.

The first time I did the program, I lost 60 pounds in 5 months, so while you may lose quickly at the beginning, your average (depending on how much you have to lose) will be in the 2-3.5 pound per week (averaged over the total time of your program).

Finding a specific plan you like, feel like you can do and is within your financial means is a personal choice. If you do this plan, it will work. If you play around with it and don't commit, it won't. (just like any other plan) Do your research and select whatever you feel is the best fit for you.
