So strange not to have a meadow romp with Hershey!
I worked on the Fair Financial report all day yesterday and have it ready for printing! The meeting is Thursday evening so I am even ahead of myself for once. Now I need to plan my "free week" - but first a coffee. Will pop in later.
By the way, the scale is out of the box but needs a 9V battery. I am still resisting the temptation. What to do? What to do?
I have some more painting to do in my wee one's bedroom today, hopefully I can get to it this afternoon. Mount Laundry is calling my name and I really need to get it done. This coming Sunday is my sister-in-law's baby shower and I'm the hostess! I'm going to my grandmother's house to set up and help my grandma rearrange furniture to accomodate all the guests. I'm preparing a meat tray and I have everyone bringing a dish for a nice pot luck meal. Should be a lot of fun!
Ruth, I know you miss Hershey, but look at this way--don't you want to be alone for some intimate times with your man? Imagine how Hershey feels!
Morning Everyone! Busy days are upon me!! First off the party for DH's birthday was a big hit. He was TOTALLY surprised by it and everyone seemed to have a really good time. Despite the rain I think that it was a success and DH was happy.
Yesterday was my son's first day of highschool Hard to believe my baby is a freshman! I went down to my school and worked from 8:30 til 4:30 on getting my classroom ready, bulletin boards, desk set up, books etc. I will have 30 kids this year! Our school is in financial trouble and cut back on staff sooooo....glad to have a job, but will be crazy by the end of the year. I called my DS after his school got out and before football practice and he tells me that he and one other freshman got their pictures taken with the varsity yesterday for the newspaper---I said WHY???? He says, I don't know, but aren't you happy for me. GULP! I said, well happy that YOU are happy. Anyway, long story short the coaches think that he should be the STARTING defensive safety for the VARSITY besides being the quarterback for the fresh/soph. DH talked to coach and said we'd just as soon hold off of the starting Varsity stuff if we could--mentioned something about a "little blonde woman coming out of the stands to strangle him if he did" all in fun of course. Coach understands, but says DS is talented and wants to play him some at least. What can you do????? I don't know how a mom can be so proud and so ready to bawl and throw up at the same time!!!! First game Friday!! Working on nametags and my school schedule today, and getting the house organized so that I don't have such a mess to come home to tomorrow. Sorry for such a long post!!
Mama J---how is "Lightning" doing?
Peach---get well soon--you are supposed to be taking care of you too!
Ruth---congrats on the puppies to be!
Barb---wow, what a scary experience, hope that you continue to improve and are back to your old self soon.
debkay---hope your DH beats the typhoon and gets home to you soon. How is band and highschool going for your DD?
Phyllis, Jenny, Sooner, where in heck are you guys!!!! Come back soon!
Ruth when is Hershey scheduled to come home? I know it's quiet around your house, but rest up for the blessed event.
peachie, are you taking care of yourself today This is said in my best mother's voice, "don't make me come up there and take care of you!!"
Pooky I admire you taking on all that painting.
AdoAnnie, what's a Mom to do. I'm sure your proud of your football player, but I agree with you, if you let him do varsity, it needs to be limited. I hate to say it but in most cases, don't know if this is the case with your son's coach, but all they care about is winning, they don't think about the growing child. Football is such a big money maker for the schools (even high school) that the pressure to win is tremendous (sp).
thanks for asking about my baby, she is doing well. She is in 10th this year, she likes not being the youngest grade. Band practice is going great, their show will be very good this year, better than last years. At one point in the show the whole band (except drums) is down on their knees and they slowly lean way back, it's so awesome looking! Can you tell I'm a proud band Mama!
Has anyone heard from Phyliss???
dottie hope your doing well today.
Well, hubby is on his way home. He will get in at 4 this afternoon, gee I get to go to the airport during rush hour We have a band booster meeting tonight, he's the treasurer, so he needs to be there. I'll prop him up and elbow him if he falls asleep.
I've gone on long enough, have a great day all.
Debbie
Thanks all for sharing in my relief around the breast cancer scare – the antibiotics seem to be working their magic on what appears to have been mastitis. If no breast symptoms return, then I’m in the clear.
Deb, so sorry about your friend with IBC. I found many good sites on the ‘net for support and information, and a few of them have testimonials from women who beat it. If you’re interested in checking them out on your friend’s behalf, let me know.
Linda, let me chime in (albeit a little late) to congratulate you on your weight loss! It’s great to have more energy, isn’t’ it? Looks like you’re putting it to good use, too.
Annie, glad the surprise party was a success! About soccer: I enjoy watching it, too, and I’ve learned a lot about it. Now I don’t ask so many stupid questions when we watch a game together ;-). I empathize with you about the conflicting feelings over having a child with talent for a sport. Nothing in life prepared me to have an athletic child -- How long before the “run-out-onto-the-field-when-your-baby-gets-hurt” urge goes away? (I’ve never given in to it, much to “my baby’s” relief.)
Janice, your “lightin’” sounds like my “Air Jordan” (The nickname he got due to his speed, and his given name – hey, I didn’t name my kid after an athletic shoe!) They don’t all pile on you in soccer, but they do target the fast ones.
Kel and Sue, coming from a non-sports family (there was never a game on the TV in my house growing up) I have a similar outlook on football as you do. Maybe I just don’t understand the game, but it seems excessively rough. My son is on the tall side, but small in stature. He is still approached about football, probably because of his speed. No thanks. Same goes for Hockey.
Pooky, I am also planning to paint my daughter’s room now while she’s away, but I’m not as industrious as you are. Painting pictures right on the wall – brave! I plan to use a wallpaper border at chair-rail height, and paint the wall different colors above and below. (hate to paper, hate to remove paper – this seemed like a good option for changing later on.) She chose jungle animals, and since she’s five, I’m trying to do things she won’t find too juvenile in a few years. I’m also putting other jungle elements around the room (leopard blanket, zebra stripes painted on chair, etc.) Ideas, anyone?
Terri, how’s it going this week with dh? You seem incredibly calm under the circumstances.
Peach, how’re you feeling?
Ruth, that sure is one doggie-long-distance romance you’ve arranged there (although just after my divorce, I might have gone all the way to Philly for a romantic interlude!) Hope you’re not missing her too badly. BTW, you know *my* vote on what to do with that scale … “my what an interesting door-stop you have there!”
Ruth~~Did you decide on that overnighter with DH? Need to enjoy that quiet time till your "baby" comes back home!
Pooky~~Miree's room sounds adorable! How talented you are to paint all those characters! Looking forward to the pictures!
Annie~~Oh Goodness! If I tried to stop my DS from playing varsity he'd probably tackle me! I agree with Deb....Hopefully they won't be pushing too hard for that win and forget these are kids! Are you planning on taking binoculars to the stand so not to miss one single move???
DebK~~Sure glad DH is on his way home! Hey, proud band mama's fit in real well with proud sports mama's! How's her ankle?
We started our day off with no electric in the garages or office! DH checked all the "obvious" out, so he said. Ended up calling our electrician who quickly found a lose wire in the fuse box! Whew, thought I was looking at a day with no 3fc buds!
"Lightnin'" is doing fine. In the past week there have been 2 young boys die after f-ball practice. He watched the news report yesterday morning and we discussed it (with me teary eyed). I was relieved when he came in from practice last night and said the coaches had a meeting with the team and were making some changes. They're taking more breaks, more fluid and shortening practice times. A small relief but at least it's being addressed!
Did all the in house fly lady stuff yesterday so today will be paperwork and then clean up the office. Hope everyone has a great day!
You know who's been on my mind often lately? Lil, remeber her? I hope she's doing well.
J
Hey Barb! We were posting at the same time! Glad you're feeling better! I named Lightnin' Michael Jordan....I had no idea that he was a famous basketball player at the time! Poor DS gets some teasing over it specially since his shoe size prob isn't much smaller than the "original" MJ!
Barb I would love to have links to the sites you found. My friend could really use the sites that give her hope. I found a site that is called pathfinders (did you see this one?) it is a support site, but also a very sad site. thanks
Janice, glad to hear your son's coaches are cutting back a little. It's hot here in GA, but TX takes the cake!! We had a young boy die last week (didn't post it earlier, didn't want to upset the football Mom's.) They thought it was heat related, but it was not, AdoAnnie and MamaJ, IT WAS NOT HEAT RELATED!!! They found that he had an undetected heart problem. So sad.
Pouring rain here all day. Of course, it had to rain just because I'd planned a drive to my sister's about 40 minutes away. It's her 63rd birthday and I promised her a nice lunch out. Took another mutual friend with me for the company on the ride (I'm always dozy on the drive back and she helped keep me awake). We had a lovely lunch out and my sis was so surprised (we all were) when all the waitresses and waiters came and sang a special birthday song and brought my sis a piece of ice cream cake with a sparkler on it. It took me a while to realize that our waitress must have overheard me telling my sis to have whatever she wanted as it was her birthday and my treat. Just allowed myself a tiny taste of the cake and yes, ice cream cakes are still yummy.
I haven't done much of anything else as that took up most of the day. Still pouring rain which is great for the garden but hard on my old knee joints.
WOndering what has happened to some of our regulars. I hope they come back.
Hi all. sounds like a busy day here. hey all I heard that my belly dancing is starting in september 3 nights a week. I will probably be a bit hard to reach on those days but i will check in!!!
Linda what a nice suprise for your sister. I am still here. the rain is so needed. we got a bunch on sunday night and monday morning.
Janice i heard about the boys and the first thing i thought of wasy you and the other girls who shake at home when their kids go out and play. there is such brutal heat these days and the kids are who pay. I asm glad that they are cutting back.
Deb glad that DH has missed the typhoon WHEW! and DD in this heat it must be brutal!!
Bes atleast you do something fancy with your rooms I am just plain jane when it comes to that. well i would try something different but DDH usually has to stick his hand s in and will not do something different.
Annie your air jordan is some thing else! it is so hard when you know you are so rpoud but do not want to squash his hopes. what is a mother to do. you must be so proud of him!!!
Pooky you must come over and do my house. I will watch the wee one. i had to laugh my boys 6 & 8 set up a day care in their room (innocently) so that if my friends daughter came over 5 they could watch her. they could watch your wee one
Ruth before long your hershey will be back home rompng in the meadows!!
Kirei- I have to watch myself with the scale. I get on and don't lose and I get depressed and think it's not working and I'm suffering so why bother. Makes sense to me!
Actually, I think I'm gonna put mine away for a couple weeks. (Hard to do when I weigh ladies every day at the club! )
Debkay- so sad about the football player dieing...you all must be getting the heat we had last week, cuz it's been beautiful here!
Pooky-Too funny about Mount Laundry. I have one too. With 5 kids, our mountain just gets rotated once a week so the clothes can get owrn. (Sometimes the kids think they got new clothes! )
Adoannie_ so you're a teacher...what grade? To add to my stress, my 1st grader got a well seasoned teacher, but 2 other boys in the neighborhood with "problems" got her too. He's delayed quite a bit (probably will keep him in 1st next year) Don't know if she will be able to handle all 3. AND my ADHD 2nd grader got a first year teacher!! I don't know how well she will be equiped(sp) for my Nicole. (Her kdg. teacher was besides herself due to her lack of knowledge/exp.) Add to that my LD 3rd grader, one starting middle school and one starting HS...I think I'm going CRAZY!!
What do you think? Should I be concerned about the first year teacher?
