  • Hi,
I'm still packing. My bureau drawers are all cleaned out, I cleaned out my closet yesterday, and I've weeded out our coffee cups and packed the ones we're going to take with us. DH has made quite a few trips to Goodwill with bags of clothing and kitchen stuff. We're getting there slowly but surely.

We got a call from our RE agent in FL on Friday. We were supposed to close on the house July 29th. But, the sellers new house won't be finished until the middle of Aug. So, we moved the closing date to Aug. 27th. It's better for us because now we don't have to make an extra trip down there and we can get a lot of cleaning out done.

DH is going to see about renting a dumpster and then we can really start throwing things out.

I had a Dr. appt. the other day and she did tell me that my weight has crept up a little. At least she didn't read me the riot act. She suggested that I get the South Beach Diet's booklet on Good Carbs/Good Fats and eat from the list. So...thought I'd give it a try.

Nikki, you sound like you're having a wonderful time cooking. It is nice to have down time. I do have Jorge Cruise's diet books, one is 8 Minutes in the Morning, and the other one is his weight loss program. Are you surprised???? Unfortunately, they are packed away in boxes at the moment, as well as all my books. Of course I haven't done anything in the book. I did have good intentions though. Today is a good day, but it's been just like fall here. Tomorrow they say we're going to be in the rainy weather again.

ANNE, how is your Dad and doing?

lynn, how are things going with you?

Well..my break is almost over. Back to the grindstone.

  • Hi
I've been keeping a journal here at 3fc for some time now and would like to join a group.

I've been doing the low carb "life style change" for about 7 weeks now and have lost 10 pounds and 19 inches. Hate the word diet.

Hope I can join the group.
  • Hi Ceejay,

A BIG WELCOME!!! Your weight loss and inches lost are very impressive. Congratulations! Which low carb WOE are you following? Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Aleka
  • Good Morning Everyone:
Hope you all had a great weekend.
Aleka, my dad is doing better. He is using his oxygen less and less which
is great. The hot humid weather is hard on him though. I said 8 weeks to
labour day dad! You guys know me by now I am an autumn person, so the
count down is on for me
is very quiet these days. I am under the impression she is not well.
She is very private so none of us really know what the scoop is with her.
Her memory is absolutely terrible though. I think she is pre-occupied.
Hi Nikki, do you still take your suppliments? I just ate cold roast been and
tomatoe juice for breakfast. I always take a multi each morning in case I
    am missing any vitamins.
Hi Lynn, hope you are well.
Welcome CeeJay, I'm looking forward to reading your posts.
    Have a great day.
    Anne.
  • Good morning,
Welcome, Ceejay. We are glad to have you here and please feel free to post as often as you like. We are here to support each other and we are also friendly people that enjoy talking about life in general. I'm not on a low carb plan, but I've been on several in the past. In fact, I'm not on any plan right now, but I'm starting to do Jorge Cruises program, so I'm hoping this will get me going again. I've got some weight to lose, I've been losing it for awhile and I seem to have got stuck at the 209 lbs point. Every time I hit that number, I start to eat all the wrong things again and gain some weight back. I'm not sure why that is, maybe fear of actually getting below 200 lbs and maybe its just that I want to rebel. Now, I have no idea what I weigh, I'm scared to even step on the scale. Anyway, that's my story in a nut shell.
Aleka, I figured you'd have his books. I am not getting very far, very fast yet. Too much yard work. But, the weather is suppose to be extremely hot and humid the next few days, so even though I love to go out, I will be forced to stay inside and then I will have no excuse not to buckle down and get going with my diet/exercise again.
Anne, I still take my supplements. I believe Dr. Weil is right when he says that you might not be able to tell now that your getting any benefit from them, but when your much older, you will. I sure don't enjoy taking pills though. I try to not even think about it. I'm glad to hear that your dad is able to go without his O2 for longer periods of time, I bet that makes him feel better.
    Nikki
  • Good morning,

I have to go and have some blood work done for cholesterol and she wants my thyroid tested also to see if it's ok, where I seem to gain weight very easily and practically starve to lose weight. I have to fast, so I haven't been able to have my coffee yet and I'm in a fog. I will be taking some with me and that will be the first thing I do even before I start the car up.

So far our summer has just been so-so weatherwise. We seem to have 2-3 days of 70-80 deg. days, then we have 4-5 days of showers, rain, high humidity with temps in the 60's. It's really been a funny summer. Once a week I've actually been able to put on a pair of shorts. The rest of the time I'm in jeans.

nikki, what supplements do you take? DH & I take 7 in all. I found some fish oil at BJ's that has flaxseed and some other type of oil that's good for you. I also bought some Uncle Sam's cereal that has flaxseeds in it. It's pretty good. I went into the drawer of my nightstand and found Jorge Cruise's original book. It's got all the exercises in it in detail. You know, I actually could commit to 8 min. in the morning, but don't know why I don't do it. Doing yard work is great exercise.

ANNE, glad that you Dad is doing much better and he doesn't have to use his oxygen as much. Maybe is worried about her health. In a way I kind of feel sorry for her.

Hi lynn & CeeJay Hope everything is well with the both of you.

    Have a great day everyone.
    Aleka
  • Hi,
Well, this is nuts, I was writing a reply, I know I didn't hit the wrong button and it still just went blank.
Aleka, I've been taking the Beach Body supplements. They have some great formulas that contain all the vitamins and additional supplements that I use to take individually. If you want a link to read about what is in them, I can find it. I also take coq10, evening primrose (it's good for the skin and helps to keep it moist), and milk thistle (promotes a healthy liver. If you drink at all or take prescription drugs, Dr Weil says to take it, so I do). I have never been able to take fish oils. Every time I tried, I was burping up this fish taste all day. I do use flax seed a few times a day.
Man, it's hot and humid here. I was going to go out and start on my yard work, but I'm procrastinating. I can't avoid it for too much longer though.
Well, guess I better get going, it's just going to get more miserable out there as the day goes on, have a good one, Nikki
  • Hi Everyone: First of all who is Jorge Cruise? I have been having computer trouble, VERY ANNOYING!!!!! I posted a long post yesterday in quick reply and had a message saying I had posted to an unregistered site and lost the post. Was told to click on address of site and contact 3fatchicks and when I did nothing happened. I was so pi--ed off I turned off computer. It appears to be this site and I think it is the pop-up adds, anyway a new lap top in 2 months. Thanks for PM message Nikki let me know if you received the reply. I have been in the GTA area more than here lately. DH is here puppy sitting. They are doing really well and are ever so cute. The summer weather has been very unpredictable here also Aleka. A good day with sun is in the 70's. LOTS of wind and rain. Anne I am with you bring on the fall. At I hope we get are beautiful fall weather. I am going back to GTA to babysit my grandson for a couple of days on th 23rd. DD and I were both afraid to do it on our own so we are tag teaming (her word for both of us babysiting) I am going to post this and if it doesn't get though I will do a PM. Talk to you tomorrow and will add more comments on your posts but am afraid I will not get this posted. Later
  • Lynn,
Glad your ok and really glad to hear from you. Sorry to hear about the pc problems, as you know, mine are enormous and seem to be multiplying daily. I often wonder how much longer this computer will go on.
Jorge Cruise is an attractive young man that wrote a book on diet and exercise. So far, I've not gotten very far in the book. Nice to see a good looking, well proportioned man talking about fitness. Not like some Dr that will remain nameless I'm not sure if it will change my life, but I do need some kind of something to get me motivated again. While this is the perfect time to diet and exercise (fresh foods, fresh air), I am gravitating to sugar.
How old are the puppies now? How on earth will you ever be able to part with them? I know it will be a relief in some ways, still, it will be hard. Will you be able to keep in contact with the future owners so you can see them on occasion?
You can have some of our heat, I'll go point a fan towards the northeast and you will get it in a day or two It's a very miserable 90 degrees with a heat index of 102. At least we have a breeze, yesterday, there wasn't even that.
So glad to hear from you again, Nikki
  • Hi,

DH & I had eye exams earlier this morning and our pupils a dialated. That's a lot of fun. Everything is ok.

Our weather here is the pits. We're supposed to have showers and rain at least until Sunday. The temps have been 10 deg. below normal. They said this morning that it should be between raw and humid. I hate that because you never know what to wear not to mention how yukky it feels.

Early last evening a friend and I were coming home from shopping when a deer ran in front of my car. Luckily I was far enough away and was in a slow speed area.

nikki, I also take the CoQ10 along with Vitamin E, Calcium, Fish Oil, Multivitamin, Lutein, and now that DH & I are over 50, 81mg. of aspirin. I also had the problem of tasting fish when I burped from the fish oil. I don't seem to have that problem with the one I am taking now. A very long time ago I was taking a garlic supplement. One day I kept burping and kept tasting garlic, so that I was very afraid to open my mouth to talk to anyone. I never took it again. Please do get a huge fan and blow some of your warm temps our way.

lynn, glad to hear from you and that the puppies are doing well. Sorry about your computer problems. Thankfully our's was fixed. I don't remember if I posted that they found the problem and it was a squirrell that was chewing on the wires. So far we haven't had much of a summer. Have you?

ANNE, hope everything is well with you.

    Hi CeeJay!

    Have a great day everyone.
    Aleka
  • Hi
Hope everyone is doing ok. Our weather is great today. It was suppose to be a little less humid than it is, but so much improved over the last few days, I'll take it. I have not got much done though. Last night, I was suffering with pain and swelling and having a hard time walking. Then I couldn't sleep, so took some old pain pills I've been hording for that kind of moment. Since I've not had any for a long time, I've been groggy all day. Even slept most of the day away, or spent it in a fog. Right now, I'm back to normal (as normal as I get anyway), so think I'll forget taking those darned things again.
I bought a set of outdoor lights that run off electricity and spent quite a bit of time trying to get them together. Whoever wrote the instructions doesn't speak english well and doesn't like to draw instructions clearly either. I think a kindergardener would have done a better job. I finally got them all together and set up. I don't know if they work, I've got the transformer covered and figure they won't come on until it's been dark awhile. I have a feeling, these blasted things won't work anyway. Got them 1/2 price. Also, bought a few other things that are pretty nice 1/2 price, shepards hooks, a drain spout cover that looks like a there are a couple of frogs sitting on the side of a stream fishing, so when it rains, I bet it's really cute.
Aleka, what brand of fish oil do you take? I bought some vitamin e this morning. I know I should take it, just have neglected to. Also, need to get some more calcium, since I"m out of it.
    Nikki
  • Hi,

We had major computer problems yesterday. When DH booted it up in the morning he got a message that we had a corrupt disc. As it turned out it had something to do with our browser. DH was on the phone with a tech, who couldn't speak English, for about 3 hrs. and between the both of them they installed a new browser. We both hate it, but that could be because we're not used to it. Our e mail is all screwed up, sometimes all I get in the message are these weird symbols.

nikki, how are you doing today? I hope that your swelling has gone down, that your pain has eased a bit, and that you're walking better. The fish oil that I get is from BJ's Whole Sale Club, and they're called Berkley & Jensen. Every so often when I burp I do get a fishy taste, but it's not bad compared to the ones I took previous to these. I forgot to mention that 2 yrs. ago when I last had my eyes checked, the Dr. told me that I had age related changes that possibly could lead to macular degeneration in later years. So, he told me to take 6 mg. of Lutein. This time he told me that my eyes were healthy. Do your outdoor lights work?

DH & I rented a dumpster, which arrived the other day. We're going to start cleaning out our downstairs today and throw a lot of stuff out. I am going to have to wear one of those masks because I am so allergic to musty smells.

Hope you all have a good day.
    Aleka
  • HI,
Aleka, my internet explorer was corrupted during this last invasion of some kind of worm that microsoft had no defense against. I had to down load a new browser too. I chose netcaptor, since it was not affected by the same problems. It has been a lot of learning for me too. I don't like to have to learn new stuff set in my ways I guess and stubborn. My emails are really a mess. I get some at yahoo and cant delete them, some at msn and then a few at my local provider. I am trying to consolidate them all into one place, but changing your address with everyone you get mail from isn't always that easy. Some places are simple, some give you a real run around.
I was thinking about fish oil and I remember that the Atkins brand of essential oils never did give me a fish taste in my mouth. We don't have the store you buy yours from here. My DH has had macular degeneration for a long time. He has no sight in one eye (from an eye problem that is not related) and the other one is poor. I try to get him to take lutein, but just getting him to take a multi vitamin a day is a struggle. He's also a stubborn sort. (need an icon with a mule here ) I'm glad it's helped you and I'll tell him about that. He is very troubled about his vision.
I'm doing better today. I have some days that I'm better than others, but I'm always in pain, so I guess I'm use to it. Thanks for asking. Hope you don't get down with all that sorting and throwing out of stuff. That's a good idea to wear a mask.
I've already gotten alot done in the yard today. Have to go pick tomatoes and spray to try to prevent fungus, later, Nikki
  • Well I just lost another post and it was as Nikki was posting I was typing so at least I know what is at least one problem. The city across the lake is under a state of emergency. Wew have had rain like I have never seen in my life. That hard heavy rain that drops so much water that the storm sewers can't get ride of the excess. lots of flooding and the emergency is extended to the weekend we are ok until they open up the locks than we will probabley have some flooding on this side of the lake. As I type I can see a few neighbours docks are going under and 20 miles away all is well (DH is golfing and called) what a summer this has been. Glad you are feeling better Nikki must be awful to be in constant pain. These bloody computers sooooo frustrating but on the other hand I couldn't live without mine. I wonder if some of our problems are because of the awful changes the atmosphere is under going this summer. The weather has been abnormal everywere. Something to think about. Well must get on with my day. You all have a good day
  • Hi,

nikki, that is exactly what happened to our computer. We just can't understand it because we've had all our virus stuff updated right along. The browser we have now is Mozilla, which I call Godzilla. That is the only one they had to install. Ya, I don't like learning new things either at this age. The original browser we had was so much easier to navigate than this thing. Glad that you're feeling a little bit better. With everything that is going on, some days I'm kinda down and other days I'm better. It is just so overwhelming.

lynn, that is awful about your neighbor's docks. Hope you won't get flooded when they open up the locks. Thankfully we haven't gotten all the rain you have had. But, we have had our share. This really hasn't been a very good summer so far. They say we're to see some sun tomorrow & Sun., then on Monday we're back into stormy weather again.

DH isn't feeling well, he's got a sore throat, hopefully it's not a viral infection. I had one a long time ago, around this time, when we had a rainy, damp summer. Off to the drug store to get him some throat spray.

    Have a good afternoon.
    Aleka
