I am a strict vegetarian (not vegan) and have been doing low carb (Atkins) for a week and a half now. It was hard starting this being a vegetarian, but each day, I find something that makes it easier. I will never stop being a vegetarian, and I HAVE to get this wieght off, so I am in for the long haul. My carb craving have virtually disappeared, and I am rarely hungry, so that is great.
I had a bright idea that I would have one cheat meal last Sunday, and see how that worked on this plan. I didn't start craving anything after, but it didn't do me any good where weight loss was concerned, and I just felt kinda... ugh. So my weight loss so far has been from 214.5 to 207...
So... HI!
Oh yeah... my husband is in the military and he is deployed right now, and not coming back until sometime in November or after. SURPRISE! I haven't even told him, hhahaa. I have only been overweight since the birth of my 2 daughters (5 and 3), so he will be excited to see the "old" me. I am just glad I am finally motivated to get the pounds off!

I eat eggs, cheese, lots of low carb veggies and salad, TONS of gardenburger products like the "burgers", "smoked sausage" (AWESOME with mustard, yummm), "braughtwurst" (sp?), "ribs" (the BEST!!!), fake lunch "meat", tofu, tofu, tofu, and low carb EAS ready to drink myoplex SOMETIMES.
After the first few days, I realized that for every "meat" product there is, there is a vegetarian substitute, and they all have low carb contents as long as they are not breaded.
I am on day 11 of Atkins and I love this board! THey are very ecouraging and helpful! Come post with us on the daily thread here is the link to today's Daily Thread
I would be interested in hearing about the veggie ribs! I have never seen them before!
OMG, the Garden Burger riblets are great. I even have my non vegetarian friends eating them. They are 11 grams of carbs, and 4 grams of fiber, so I eat them when I haven't had a lot of carbs by dinner.
Would you count that as 11 carbs? Or subtract the fiber and count it as 7?
Anyhow, they are in the freezer section of the grocery store, and will be by all the other Garden Burger products (veggie corn dogs, etc.). The veggie corn dogs and buffalo wings are awesome too, but too high in carbs for induction. ;(

Congrats on starting Atkins, that's a pretty amazing thing to begin being a vegatarian but as you say it can be done! And YAY on those first pounds already. You may just inspire more people who are meatless to jump on the band wagon!
There's a lot of Atkins gal and Brad (our resident rooster) running around to help you out with any questions you might have.
I've been low carbing it for a month and down 25lbs so far, needless to say I love it! It hasn't been a sacrifice most of the time either. I too had my one little cheat day and I felt like I was going to explode! It took me hours to digest that darn pizza and it took me another 3 days to get rid of the extra 3lbs I put on. After that day i switched over to Atkins and haven't had nearly the urges I did on my other low carb program.
Glad you found us and looking forward to hearing more from you.
Well... I woke up yesterday to a gained pound... and I woke up this morning to 2 gained pounds... Call me crazy, but that isn't very motivating, expecially since I am not even 2 weeks in yet.
It will go back and forth a little, I noticed that too, but I think that might even be a little of water weight, but I could be wrong.
Anyway, welcome to the board. What a nice suprize to your husband overseas. I am sure he loves you as you are, but it's so much easier to love some one who is in love with theirselves and for some of us the weight loss helps that so much!!!!
Keep on, it works, it maybe slow sometimes, but it works... Not to mention the energy boost and it leads to NO heartburn!!!
