Question General Rules. . for South Beach and Sugar Busters???

I was wanting someone to give me a general guideline of what it takes to be on the South Beach Diet and Sugar Busters Diet? What are the general guidlines? I have read and researched the Atkins diet and I want to know about them all so I can decide which one will work the best for me. Any help would be a blessing. Thank you!

Amy, there is a Sugar Buster Section on this site, you can get a lot of information from there. IMHO, it's very much like Atkins, but you can have Whole Wheat bread and pasta, within limits. And a lot of veggies, but of course no corn, or potatoes. The protein is much lower in fat, such as lean cuts of beef. Over all I perfer the Sugar Busters over Atkins. I'm not familar with South Beach so I can't comment on that one. Check out the Sugar Buster section, that's what I did before I bought the book. Here's a couple of sites to visit.

Hi, most of the diets that you mentioned are discussed mostly in the low card forum here at 3FC...rather than the general diet plans area. I am going to move this thread over to that forum and maybe you will get a better response!

I might be able to answer some of your questions about SBD:

The first two weeks (Phase 1) you eat a lot of veggies (but not starchy ones), lean meats and fish, low fat cheese, eggs, and a lot of water. Three meals, two snacks and a "treat" are recommended. This phase is designed to stop cravings for sweets and starches...and it seems to work!

After 2 weeks you can move onto Phase 2 until you reach your goal. You slowly add back in "good" carbs such as some fruit, yoghurt, whole grains, etc. You don't go "hog wild", but just add foods that will balance out your diet. Everyone has a different reaction to different foods, so some peoplel may not be able to eat fruit very often while others are just fine, for example.

Phase 3 is designed to be a healthy eating plan for life: lean sources of protein, lots of fruits and veggies, low fat dairy, whole grains, plus room for a treat now and then!

The Prevention website has an article about SBD that is pretty informative and will give you an idea of what you would be eating.

Good luck!
