Angry To carb or not to carb that is the question?

Hi - I am trying to figure out what to do about weight loss. I have tried lots of diets. I just joined WW again but not sure If this is what i should do. I was thinking about Atkins, low carb type diet. I am not sure if i can give up all the carbs, breads and potatoes and things. I really like sweets, and breads, cookies, crackers and stuff like that. I have about 150 pounds to loss. I am thinking of trying it and see how long i can last, and then go back on WW. What do you all think?

Once you start on a plan, it's best to stick to one and work it to the best of your ability. I don't know if one outweigh's the other, so to speak, but if you waffle back and forth it will just be too confusing. You CAN lose weight, I have faith in you! Just be aware that Atkins is higher in fat and if you're a WWer, it's going to shock you! Plenty of meats and veggies, cheese, etc. No grains or sugar for the first 2 weeks. Good luck to you.

Post Hi Kitty

I think it's a very personal choice because losing the weight depends on a number of factors. From my personal experience, I gain weight on WW's, anything low fat, high carbs, following the food guide plumps me up for Thanksgiving. So...low carb is really the only way I lose weight at all, I've been gorging on carbs so long (nearly a decade and a half, and I'm only 24) my insulin reisistance is something terrible. On weight watchers after a month I was up 5 pounds (doing it religously) and on Atkins I'm down 18 pounds in 4 weeks.

I too love carbs in every form minus sweets, I prefer the salty stuff so even the amount that WW allows is a death sentence, they allow an inch and I want a mile. On Atkins honestly you stop wanting that stuff completely, except for the emotional eating times when you need a comfort food. It is very liberating.

After all, I'm a wee bit biased about plans too cuz this one is working for me and nothing else ever has. But Goodforme is right, it's easier (and works better) to pick one and stick with it.

Good luck making your choice, and which ever way you go there's plenty of support to be found here

My experience with low fat diets is not good - dry skin, heartburn, indigestion, and a lot of hunger - that crazy shakey kind of hunger. My experience with Atkins has been just the opposite and Tummy Girl is right about the cravings for carbs - I just don't have them anymore. They don't appeal.

Part of the reason I gave Atkins a go is because my excuse for not trying it was, "Oh but I LOVE carbs. I can't get enough bread, pasta, potato, rice, etc," and I thought - hang on - maybe that's my problem.

So far, so good. I've lost about 15 pounds on Atkins in five weeks. I don't think I ever managed five solid weeks on a low fat diet without bloodshed or massive cheating so hey, I'm going to consider myself a success.

A few days ago I typed out a big long, "Why I love Atkins" type post in a tread started by Turtle. I think it was something like, "Just started, Need Advice" if you want to go check it out. That's my little Atkins testimony. Of course, it's still early days and I have a LOT more to lose but my husband and I were talking about it last night and we agree - this has NOT been a miserable, hate-every-minute way of eating. We like it!

Kitty-

You need to check out the thread that Nicole posted on...she hit is perfect on why it's good for you and as I read your post I saw the same thing that Nicole was talking about... http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/show...threadid=30263 If you think that you LOVE the carbs, that you don't know what you would do without them...then you are probably eating too many of them and that could be the problem. Try it and see if it works. You definately need to stick to ONE diet and stick with it for a while...change your lifestyle of eating and then you will see what actually works for you....
