South Beach Diet - Week of May 12

  • Happy Monday!
  • It's Wednesday and where is everyone? Is anyone having problems like I am with adding more carbs in Phase II. I just seem to have come to a stand-still weight-wise since I added a few more carbs (maybe too many) and although I haven't gained anything back, I haven't lost anything either. Has everyone given up on SBD and are now trying something else. Caci
  • hey caci~
i was wondering the same thing.........
i lost 2 lbs last week, added a little exercise- not consistent though. i went to the dr on mon, to be told i have high blood pressure, and i need to weigh 140 lbs. i already jnew that, thats why i'm on sbd. she was pleased at the weight loss, but really encouraged me to get active too. what are you doing for exercise? i guess walking is the least expensive, although i really want to try pilates.
anyway, im still here. have a great day!!
  • hey~
maybe everyone has left ?! well, im around til i lose the weight.
    have a great day!!!!

  • Hi Sandy, Glad to hear someone is still around. I wonder what happened to everyone. Maybe like me, they started Phase II and didn't handle it too well. I didn't gain, but I didn't lose either, so now I am back at Phase I and really looking at other low carb diets as I think I need something that tells me a little more about how many carbs a day I should be eating, but I do like the recipes in the book.
I have been trying to walk for an hour a day, but our weather is not cooperating with me and we are still having lots of rain almost every day. I know early in the morning here there are several programs called pilates, but so far I don't think I am in the shape to attempt to many of them, but hopefully maybe later.
Nice to have your Dr. proud of you b/c you are losing weight. Any comment about low carb diets? Keep in touch and have a great Thursday. Caci
  • caci~
what other "diets" are you looking at? i agree, phase 1 was so results oriented, but the weight loss stops at phase 2. Hmmmmmmm.............................. well, lets come up with our own solution, and make millions!!!!! Hee Hee
the water i found to be a crutial element in success. and i would agree the protein snacks( and meals) do fill you up, and keep you satisfied for a long time. but the reality is............ CARBS do exist. we need to find a happy medium. keep me posted.
  • Why not come on over to www.prevention.com? There is a HUGE forum just for The South Beach Diet. I am currently on Phase 2 the second week. Wish you luck! Sorry I don't know how to do the "link" thing to get you directly there.
  • Hi,
I thought I would add to the prevention site there is a Yahoogroup for South Beach Diet the addy is [email protected] it is very active. I love this diet I was on Atkins and really hit a bad stall I am so happy I found this diet. patsi
  • Glad to see some of us are still here. Sandy: I am sorry I neglected to say "way to go" on your 2 lb loss-could be I was just jealous. I was looking at the Protein Power Diet, and think I finally did all the figuring necessary to find out how much I should weigh and how much protien I should eat each meal, and also looked at the new Atkins which seems pretty close to SBD, but with fewer carbs allowed. (Did anyone find out how many carbs are allowed on SBD?). I have been going over to the prevention site and it is great and I see the Dr. answers a lot of the questions asked--maybe I'll see if I can find out about the number of carbs allowed as I haven't seen any information on it.
It seems as long as I stay on Phase I, I do fine, but the minute I add anything to it, I don't lose. I have been doing much better on my water, but 8 glasses still seems like a lot. Patsi, what didn't you like about Atkins? Everyone have a great Friday and a wonderful weekend. Caci
  • cacikat,
You don't really count carbs eat the "Foods to Enjoy" and stay away from the "Foods to Avoid" eat until you are full and satisfied not stuffed and that's it. patsi
  • I'M STILL HERE...I've just been lurking because I haven't been doing very well. I manage to stay OP for a few days and then blow it totally. My weight has stayed the same since the initial loss of 2 lb.
Today I discovered chocolates sweetened with Maltitol. I deliberately drove out of my way to get them too. I'm sure they're not good for me because they are loaded with nuts and as much as I love nuts, they put me into stall mode every time. Anyhow, I haven't lost faith in the SB plan, I just seem to have lost faith in myself. LOL
Time to get back on track. Phase I it will be until I've lost a LOT more weight. Like the rest of you, adding the extra carbs curbs weight loss.
  • Hi Ladies. Well, this week is almost over-thank goodness--and I will weigh tomorrow morning and see if I stay with SBD or switch to something else. I still have quite a bit of weight to lose and a deadline to do it by, although that is still many months away, so if I can find something that works, I should be able to do it.
LindaBC: Have you tried the new Hershey's Sugar-free candy. It comes in chocolate w/almonds, peanut butter cups, and regular chocolate. I purchased the chocolate w/almond and the peanut butter cups and so far have eaten one of the chocolate ones which wasn't too bad, but have really limited myself as I don't want to od on them and I know for me it would be very easy to do. They are sweetened with Lactitol.
Everyone have a great Sunday and please keep your fingers crossed for me my Monday weigh-in. Caci
  • good morning~
weighed in today. 184.5. up 1 lb. still an over-all loss of 6.5 lbs.
caci, i'm starting to think more like you. phase 1 works, but can i do it indefinitely?? i dont know. i really want to get in the 170's soon. am i wanting to lose the weight too fat? how does this sound................ 10 lbs a month- really attainable, if more is lost, then great!!! so my goal is to be in the 170's by june 1, 160's by july 1, and so on til sept/oct , when i reach my goal( fingers crossed).
caci~ if you come up with a better( better means quicker heehee)
plan, keep me in the loop.
some addl good news- i had a mega job interview on fri and it went really well. i know this would ease a lot of stress in my life- stress= carb overload for me!!
everyone have a great sunshiney sunday!!!
