Atkins induction-help!

  • Hi!
I am on induction and I have a couple of questions. I know I need to stay below 20 g of carbs a day, but do carbs in cheese and proccessed meat count? How many carbs is in 2 c. lettuce? Or 1 c. veggies? I know we're supposed to stay away from nitrates but do hotdogs and bacon hinder weight loss?

    Thanks!
  • Carbs in EVERYTHING count. Also, check the carb count in your hot dogs. Even bacon has some carbs, especially if it's sugar cured. If you want to know the carb count in something, a good idea is to register with FitDay.com. It's quite easy to use and you can keep track of your daily carb intake.
  • Best I can figure........
    Sassy,

Yes, even the seemingly small amount of carbs in meat and cheese count. Because, believe it or not, it adds up and can kick you out of ketosis. Even eggs have a little carb (like half a gram for a medium size). But I wouldn't worry about those adding up, unless you're eating a dozen a day As far as lettuce goes, stay away from iceberg; zero nutrients and 70% water. You're not going to get any fiber or good stuff from it. Get romaine lettuce, or baby spinach leaves also work for salads. The darker stuff is loaded with nutrition and FIBER! Although the carb count is around 10 per 2 cup serving, the fiber count is about 7, which means you're netting 3 carbs. It's kinda confusing at first, but always subtract fiber count from total carbohydrate. 10-7=3.

Veggies are a whole different story. Choose broccoli, zucchini, asparagus, okra, spinach and cabbage. Do not eat corn. You should obtain a list of veggies low on the glycemic index. (In fact 3fatchicks has a very good one). Once again, subtract your fiber from your total carbohydrate to figure out your net carb intake.

I hope this was all correct and you find it helpful. I did my best!
Best of luck Sassy! You can do it!
