Default Questions about Atkins Induction

I was looking at the Atkins website and they have on there a 2-week menu to help you make the right choices during induction. You don't have to follow their menu, it's just a guideline. My question is, they have listed Low Carb Tortillas, Atkins bread, Atkins Hot Cereal, Atkins Pancake Mix, Low Carb Milk, Atkins shakes, bars and muffins. When I did Atkins a few years back, none of this was allowed on Induction. Has that changed? Is it all allowed now on Induction? Here is the link to the menu I am referring to. Thanks.

My personal opinion on all that....its the atkins website, and they will try to sell you what ever they can. When Dr. Atkins was alive and had control over it you didnt see nearly as much self promotion for the induction phase.

My advice? Stick to real food. If you are a carb addict like many of us here, that stuff will not help. I dont miss cereals or breadings and what not....I do miss bread when I can smell it in the grocery store baking If you go to the st.paddy's day challenge, many are on induction and post their menus there. In the phase one thread I believe they are posting their menus there too....so that should give you some ideas on what everyone is eating. You'll find your groove....so dont worry about the atkins junk, just eat the atkins way

Great advice Robin.

Mandi, I use some of the Atkins shakes (like the 1 gram of net carb one) and some of the Atkins bars. But the rest is all regular food. I try not to abuse the bars. But sometimes I wonder if it's just keeping the lingering addiction to my old cravings going. But it's better than eating carp. I think you have to do what you need to do within plan and modify as you go. I haven't been doing this too long but I find there are days I want to be strict and not have any pre-packaged stuff and there are some days I run to it. The bars can be handy in your purse when your out and about.

I stalled even using the shakes and bars, and had to cut them out to start losing again. I agree, Atkin's didn't do that type of self promotion as they have since his death. Plus remember, they were going into bankrupcy, and it was resently announced that thy climbed out. I wonder how.. *evil grin* I would also stick to the phase 1 list of appropriate foods. If you are a metobalic resistant kind of person, stay away from the low carb snacks. That's what stalled me.

Good luck!

I have another induction question. I have "Atkins for Life", several of the Atkins cookbooks and an older copy of "The Diet Revolution". How can I keep/can I keep fiber in my diet during the induction phase? "The Diet Revolution" suggested a mild laxative but I would prefer a dietary solution. Any ideas?

Some people don't need the extra fiber Sorry (I don't have a problem). Psyllium (sp?) husk I believe was recommended.

I had a Blue Bunny Carb Smart ice cream bar- OK, I had two- last night and man! I think I discovered sugar alcohols as an alternative. I had to cancel my date! My stomach would have dominated the conversation.

I ran into that same problem with sugar free jelly beans once -- spent the night in the bathroom and was totally miserable. I'm careful about that stuff now.

Look at it this way -- you might have dropped a pound.

pysillium husks work well, if you check a natural food store they probably have several 'colon cleanse' options. When I'm desperate (I don't recommend this on a refular basis) I take a mild laxative. Having regular bowel habits is SUPER important, hemorrhoids are NO FUN and very painful!
