Wink The evil scale...

I've been on the Atkins diet for two solid weeks now. No slips, no cheats. I realize a true "stall" isn't a true "stall" until 4 or more weeks have gone by. However, after the first 4 days of I lost 3 lbs. and then gained back 2 later on. I have lost 1" in my waste so I'm betting the 2lb gain was muscle.

I walk 3 to 4 times a week, 2 miles and am a fairly active person at work though I do have to spend a great deal of time in front of my computer.

My problem lies in this, I have not budged at all on the scale and have not lost any more inches since being on Induction. I plan on staying on Induction until the weight is gone (about 80 lbs.). I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I drink around 100 oz. of water a day (that's ALL I drink!) and my appetite has decreased.

I do use FitDay so here are my counts.

Calories: are all over the place and even though I know you don't really have to "count" them, I still look at them. They range from 1658 (the lowest) to 3340 (the highest). Like I said, I'm all over the range of this. Never consistent.

Fat: Highest was 310 to the lowest of 143.

Protein: Highest - 195 Lowest - 116

Carbs (with fiber figured in). Highest - 21 Lowest - 9 (don't know what happened this day!)

Could it be because I don't keep a balance in my numbers? I've written the numbers down and can't find a pattern. One day my numbers are really high and the next they are really low.

Ketostixs have been good, high range (purple) but the last few days they have been mild to moderate and I can't figure this out either. I really watch for the hidden carbs (sugar cured ham, brown sugar in the bacon ect.) so I'm stumped.

Any suggestions or am I a worry wart (probably the latter) So much for the quick weight loss on Induction huh??

Thanks everyone!

Tam

Tam, I just went thru this too. I'm still in Induction and I lost 7.5 lbs in the fist 8 days and then stopped. Then on day 11 - I gained .5 lb, and kept gaining, 1.5 lbs total. But I didn't stop Induction or change anything I was doing. Finally yesterday I lost again, .5 lb and lost again today, another .5 lb.

I think that our bodies catch on to the fact we're changing something, and bodies really prefer to maintain status quo, so it panics and then waits to see if we'll keep this new WOE up, or if famine has hit and we're going to starve to death. Once it decided that we're not starving it goes back to losing the weight instead of holding onto it for reserves.

Did that make sense?

Talking I understand

Hi Dyan!

Thanks for your reply. You could be on to something here. I have never been a true dieter, just had poor eating habits. For years I have gone with eating only one meal a day - in the evening with a dessert. My body adjusted and held out for that one meal. I didn't do it to lose weight, it was just easier that way with my schedule and way of life. Now I'm eating three meals a day and hardly any snacking or even desserts and I think maybe my body is so thrilled to have food that it thinks it needs to hold onto it "just in case". Hopefully it will realize I'm not going back to my old ways again and will learn to release this mess!!

I also think I am going to switch scales to a digital one. The one I have is brand new but is the old kind with the needle. It wiggles too much and I can't tell where it's landing!

I'll keep doing what I'm doing and hope one day my body will adjust again.

Any more advice is always welcomed!!!!

I bought a digital scale about a year ago, the difference is amazing. I love that it measures in half pounds, and it does body fat measurements too.

Default My Scale is also Evil!!!!!!!

I soooooo understand where you are coming from! I started induction on Jan 1, and the first 4 pounds came off FAST! Then I gained 2 back! I am still only at those first 4 pounds and my induction phase ends on Wednesday. I am more than dissappointed with my results thus far. I am also using fitday for my counts and although my counts are a bit more stable from day to day, I have done nothing different. I plan to measure on Wednesday and see if there are differences there. The only advice I can give is hang in there. See where it takes you for a month, and then re-evaluate if you wish!

Try spreading your meals out to eating more often.. Instead of 5 hours wait between meals go every two hours.. Your metabolism made need a big kick start... and keeping your body constantly fueled does help... Hope this helps.. Hugs Jo-Anne
