Question New low-carber

I'm new to this board, and am starting atkins Sunday. Tomorrow I have to shop for food. My one 'stumbling block' is the no caffeine rule. I cannot see how I will ever be able to go to work and function without my diet coke! Any ideas on how to make this a bit easier?
Looking forward to meeting everyone here!

Welcome to the LC Forum. You will find this a very supportive and fun place to be. Be sure to check out the Frequently Asked Questions part of the Lifestyle forum - there's lots of good info there.

Lots of folks on Atkins and other LC plans DO drink coffee. The problem with diet cola is the other crud in it, not the caffeine, that slows weightloss. Can you find a cola sweetened with Splenda? That might help. The other Chicks may have further suggestions.

Ask as many questions as you wish and post on the Daily so we can get to know you better.

RC Cola and Waist Watcher soft drinks have no caffiene and they are made with Splenda. I don't know if you can find them in your area.

dear belly... at first the caffeine helps you retain water. and that's not what we want. if you go cold turkey and get a headache for your efforts, you'll be even more miserable... so, try limiting the caffeine with the idea of getting off of it completely for awhile. once your weight loss is underwayk, you may be able to add back SMALL AMOUNTS, like one cup of real coffee in the morning.

but at this point, the good thing is that a little will go a LONG LONG way, and you won't really need the caffeine anyway!

good luck, and welcome

Lightbulb Thanks!

Thanks for the ideas!! I can get RC cola in my area; I had no idea they didn't use aspartame as a sweetner. I will get some of that today!!

Talking Hi Bellybegone

Can I make a quick suggestion I noticed your question about caffiene I would suggest you stay away from the diet sodas sweetened with splenda until after your two induction weeks are up its best to keep your diet plain and simple and fakeinfood free thoes two weeks coffee while is high in caffiene it wont stall you nearly as much as the fake insulin spike the diet soda will. Just my opinion. Good Luck, if you stick to it it will work dont get frustrated or discourgaged and never be hungry I have lost 60lbs on this wol and dont plan on stopping nay time soon.

Bye

Hi, I'm new to writing to threads but have read may of these treads over the past year. I started the Atkins Diet last Monday.
I quit drinking all sodas and have been drinking my water and Crystal Light instead of those sodas. They say you can drink diet soda but I'm not trying any of it. You can however drink coffee, as long as you use 1/2 and 1/2 as your creamer and Splenda for your sweetener. You are not allowed to use anything like coffe-mate in the coffee. If you're having trouble with your carb counting you can go to Atkins Nutritionals website and download and print out their carb counter. It doesn't have all the foods on it so you could go out to a bookstore or somewhere like Wal-Mart, Meijers,etc.......to get DR. ATKINS' NEW Carbohydrate Gram Counter for no more than $5.00. I've been studying this diet for a few months to make sure it was best for me. I have had a 5LB.
drop in the first week of Induction!!! Hope this information can somewhat help you on your journey.

Thumbs down Diet Soda

I understand about the insulin spike that can come from artificial sweetners. I will try to go without, but I think the RC might be nice to have after the induction weeks. If it makes me have cravings, believe me, I won't be drinking it! I need all the will power I can get! .
I have the Atkins book, and have already read it through once, and am half way through it again. Trying to get some of this to stick in my memory bank!!
A question, the Crystal Light is okay to drink? I'm curious about the difference between that and the diet soda?
Thanks ladies for all the great info!
