Nice message board here Well anyways i have been doing Atkins for sometime now (8 month's) and for the last 5 months i have been stalled not losing anything but my mind.
Here is what i have for breakfast:
2 fried eggs sometimes bacon & 1C decaf coffee.
Lunch:
Fish,Chicken(baked) Buger pattie sometimes with cheese salad with 3 cucumber's slices 2 slices of tomatoes 1/2 C broccoli or cauliflower ranch dressing, or I just boil up 1C brocc or cauliflower with butter,
Dinner:
Steak, burger, fish or chicken. the same as above on veggie's.
Snacks: something i don't really do that much is snack's, But when i do I have pork rinds or celery with cream cheese.
Last night i had some brussel sprouts it was something different. After I ate them i tested my strip's and it showed neg reading about 1/2 hour later it showed small to mod reading? I have been steady in a mod reading sometime's higher sometimes a little lower. I also drink anywhere from 70 to 140 oz's of water everyday.
When i say that i have lost nothing in 4/5 months i mean just that,I have not lost inch's either. I have thought of doing a fat fast But don't think i could stick to it, too blaaaa for me. I do like this woe But I can't figure out why no loss in such a long time?
I'm so sorry you are plateauing. Can I ask a couple of questions?
1. Are you exercising at all?
2. Are you eating enough fat with your meals?
3. How many calories are you taking in? You may not be getting enough calories. Maybe try tracking them for a couple of weeks to see? Depending on your weight you should never go below 1000 calories per day.
Rather than do a fat fast, what my unscientific mind says is maybe you should add some good carbs into your diet for a month or so as Atkins directs in his program and see if you maintain then. If so, maybe try going back on induction after a month of moderate (good) carb eating. Your body may just need a little shake up. Please let us know how you are doing.
In a word...Calories. I put all the foods on your menu into www.fitday.com {I can't recommend this website enough} and came up with a whopping total or 920-1299 calories. That's kind of low. You body has probably gone into starvation mode. You should also probably take a multi-vitamin.
When you drink enough water your test strips should only show moderate ketones. Some progress can't be measured in pounds or inches. Do you feel better? Have more energy? Have you had your body fat tested? You can be losing body fat and not inches or pounds.
I have been useing fitday for the last couple of week's now. At first i did not care for the site now that I have it figured out, I can't live without it.
As far as exercise i walk 3 to 4 X a week on the treadmill & do some toneing exercise's, I know it's not much but i have alot of problems with my lower back & neck, but i do what i can.
I have been back on the introduction as of about 2 week's ago. I could not take it anymore (the not losing) so i fell overboard. Never again will i do that. I can't even begin to tell you how bad i felt the next day, and that was my first cheat ever.
Anyways here is my cal fat carb intakes, maybe someone can figure something out from this?
12/16/02: Total Cals 1753 , Fat 51%, Carbs 4%, Protein 46%
12/17; Cal's 1534, fat 61%, Carbs 5%, Pro 34%
12/18; Cals 1595, Fats 69%, Carbs 4% , Pro 27%
12/19; Cals 1409, Fats 69%,Carbs 5%, Pro 26%
12/20; Cals 1422, Fats 60%, Carbs 5%, Pro 35%
12/21; Cals 1346, Fats 63%, Carbs 6%, Pro 31%
12/22; Cals 1600, Fats 69%, Carbs 5%, Pro 26% ( i felt stuffed that day)
12/23; Cals 1400, Fats 66%, Carbs 5%, Pro 28%
12/24; Cals 1661, Fats 70% Carbs 4%, Pro 26%
12/26 Cals 1379, Fats 65%, Carbs 6%, Pro 29%
My stick are mostly always in the Moderate zone and sometimes they do show in the small zone.
Please let me know what you think i should change, i'll take any suggestions you have to offer.
cut your fats back a bit.....if you even out your protein and fat intake to equal about the same, you might notice a difference.
When I hit my first plateau I was doing everything I was suppose to be doing......so the first thing I thought of besides calories was the fat. I wont hurt to give it a try.
Hi Chuckie and welcome to the Low CARB Forum. There is lots of good info and support here plus a lot of fun on the Daily Thread.
As to the % of fat and protein, you need to reduce the fat and up the protein. Right now your fat is 2/3 of your calories. See if you can get it down to 1/2 and up the protein.
You might also consider changing to a different plan for a while. Sometimes our bodies need a shake-up as our metabolism gets to be too efficient.
By the way, how much have you lost so far on Atkins and how much is left to lose? You may be struggling with the set-point problem.
I started Atkins in April of 2002 I have lost 20 to 25 pounds. That was in the first 3 months or so,But i have not lost in 5 month's . I did not weigh myself when i first started too depressing at the time. I think that part of my long stall was that i was not eating enough Because i just was not hungery. It was hard to eat when your not hungery.
So when i fell over board here two weeks ago, the next day i started back with the introduction. And within a little over 1 1/2 days it had & still have a moderate reading on my ketone stick. They have been alot darker in color, darker then before.
I need to lose another 40 to 45 pounds. This is the first "diet" that i've ever done. In the past i never weighted more then 120/125. But the last 8/10 yr's I have really put on the pounds here.
Thanks again for all your help.
Todays menu so far:
